He didn't meet Jesus he was Jesus, or at least the man that inspired the myth. For a simple movie with next to no budget this was a surprisingly good movie.

Yeah if this was not a work of fiction it would be wild to think that this one man, for better or worse, altered history so much for thousands of years. Like the amount of wars one man caused by being a figurehead for a religion despite just being basically immortal and not the son of a deity.

After 30,000 years, John perfected his skills with genetics, created an army, and took back the galaxy for mankind after 5000 years of strife. Unfortunately, all the old Standard Template Construct machines that kept all of man's knowledge was lost. John was only known as the Emperor of Mankind by then.

Like the theory but the big E is a perpetual not immortal. When he is killed he reincarnates, John just seems to be immortal. Would be cool if GW explored that and finally let the Emperor die and then come back and start the grand crusade over again.

Terrific movie! In the ending scene, John treated 'Chilly Willy' more like a distant relative rather than a son....seemed a little cold not to see John cry after Will died, but I guess John didn't spend enough time with Will to have a huge emotional bond with Will. Will's death benefitted John though because it clearly warned Sandy, his assistant/girlfriend that if she was going to tag along with John, then she should do so with eyes wide open to the eventuality of him leaving her.

And for budget film with just 1 set only after the film ended did I ubderstand that I just watched a film about people talking in a house and slightly outside the property with 85%+ being in the living room.
This was a great film and it should have won some awards.

The parents of Jesus were Essenes, mystics connected to Magi (Zoroastrians), Hindus and buddhists. Their teachings were thus similar to eastern teachings and different from those of the Pharisees and sadducees. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. My whole idea of what a movie can be changed the day I watched this. It's just story telling that leaves the user to use their own noggin to conjure up images or "videos" while not spoon feeding you with flashy scenes with CGI. It's 100% dialog and I love it. Which is why I really like MrBallen's videos. He's a good story teller.

Its important to note that Vandal Savage isn't really human all things considered even putting aside his immortality and heightened intelligence he would be one of the "proto-humans" like a Neanderthal or something else which would explain his appearance, strength and durability. It should also be noted that he hasn't always been a villian in his life it just so happens that in the modern world his views and ideology of Survival of the fittest isn't a heroic one.
Also I believe that Vandal Savage is based on a character that appears briefly in one of the pulp fiction stories of what i think was "The Shadow" and I can't remember much more then that but thats were the concept of that character comes from.

Don't compare Vandal to this weakling. Besides, Vandal is secretly Earth's protector. Obviously, he wants to rule it, because knows what cosmic dangers awaits the planet. Even if he accepts and embraces natural selection, which is quite reasonable point of view from Savage's standpoint. At least according with "Young Justice" adaptation of the character.
And after all, if you live so long, you experience loss so many times, you either get crazy or detached. Vandal became the latter, but also didn't want seat down doing nothing.

Would you be open to changing your mind about being open changing your mind. See well minor things or that's hell with that conviction can be swayed into a change. Things that require full commitments and conviction can't be. Unless there's a change of person there won't be a change of mind. Now someone may change the religion however that's not change of mind but a change of belief. The mind while neuroplastic, in consideration to a person is often rigid in its purpose. The pursuits of fulfilling relationships, the achievements of great success, the Ecstasy of indulging in pleasures and the accumulation and exertion of control and power. These things can be seen in reflections of almost all people, in those few I haven't seen take actions based upon these things have most certainly done it, are going to do it, or my analysis was not deep enough into their actions. I find that people who are open to change their minds often mean beliefs they have that they consider with little importance.

If we have free will, dont we have a say right now to choose doing good or evil. If we choose Good, why would we go against God, who is also keeping evil accountable. If we choose Evil, why do we expect God to redeem our free will? Isnt the whole point about Jesus to be redeemed through his death, and not by our own attempts? God created Heaven and Hell for that reason. The bible even says God does not want ANYBODY to go to hell. But still people will still go by their own free will. Taking our Free will is not love. The Star Trek original series episode _Requiem for Methuselah_ was also written by Jerome Bixby. Its main character of Flint may have been John, or the other long-lived person he met.
At least three of the actors in this film were also on one or more Star Trek shows.

Tony Todd's character explicitly says he's going home to watch Star Trek to return to rationality, when he's departing after John 'reveals' that he wasn't being serious, it was just a thought experiment... (Tony Todd performed in ST:TNG, Voyager, and DS9 as Kurn, Alpha Hirogen, and Jake Sisko, respectively)

No doubt about it, Flint and John are the same person! Too many similarities! And remember, Flint made it clear he was quite alone in the Universe. Also as he kind of found out in a Highlander way by being shot through the heart, we know even normally fatal wounds aren't any big deal, so if there was another, they'd still be around.

I watched the movie some time ago and thought that it was very thought provoking. The reasons that he gave for his longevity were interesting from the points about cell regeneration, always moving on, like a reptilian instinct (not of aggressive fighting for blood, but fighting for life.) Liked he was evolving/learning whenever and wherever he would immigrate to. There are certain things that he mentioned would shake the core of many religious faiths. The ending is a validation of his stories, be it in a sad way. Liked how he ended up with his girlfriend joining him. Kind of a lord of Rings twist, he lives to see a son die, which no parent should experience, but perhaps he lives to see another person he loves the girlfriend, die.

I went to high school with David Lee Smith the actor in this movie. We hung out every now and then. He was a really nice guy. Haven't seen him since High school because he was a grade above me. He went to the University of Alabama I think after High school I believe. I think it's cool that he is doing what he loves!

We went to Banks High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Sadly our school was torn down. Our rival High School was Woodlawn High School in Birmingham as well. The made a movie about a football player named Tony Nathan. The movie was called Woodlawn! my sister went to Woodlawn with Tony Nathan. I remember him even though my sister was a year behind him.

I watched this during med school. Its a fascinating, thought-provoking story from the main character, all focused on trying to work out if hes telling the truth or not. Its really fun to have your own ideas on how he can prove who he says he is. Its light hearted, fun and good for an intellectual watch.

Completely a plot steal from them the very well know writer Robert Heinlein! ..The lives of Lazarus Long!

    • @ItsAsparageese
      @ItsAsparageese 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@raywhitehead730 That's blatantly untrue. Heinlein's work you reference was published in 1973. Jerry Bixby's first major work with this premise was the Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" which aired in 1969. This film is just a reworking of his original concept. And in the first place the premise refers to a Biblical figure anyway.
The entire sci-fi community has always borrowed and remixed content from each other, especially back in the golden days of short fiction. Jerry's no exception, but he was particularly known for having highly original premises in general, and far more works derive from his material than there are works by him that derive from others. I mean come on, you're talking about the guy who first widely popularized the concept of a mirror universe and who conceived _Fantastic Voyage._ Heinlein is great and did a lot of brilliant original stuff too, and I'm not saying he got his idea from the Trek episode -- he absolutely could have had it independently -- but to accuse Jerry of deriving this storyline from the Heinlein work is patently ridiculous.
