  • Hi Friends!
Happy Tuesday. I am back at it with an informational video of things I forgot I had to learn how to do after my amputation.
Stairs seem like SUCH A SIMPLE TASK when I had two feet. It is amazing how frustrating they are after losing my ankle. Here is a quick video just showing a slight trick you can do to make it easier going up and down stairs.
Also, I sincerely apologize for the audio. I don't have access to stairs that are not in a stairwell.
Also, cheers to the first video back with monetization. Having my videos be monetized helps me a little bit financially and you can help out by simply continuing to watch.
I appreciate you guys more than you know

I have a different type of prosthetic foot (with a hydraulic ankle) and it works differently than yours on stairs. I feel like each prosthetic component has its own series of tradeoffs (like I have zero energy return with the hydraulic ankle). It's fascinating to see how different prosthetic legs function. Thanks for sharing!

I was told up with the good (leg) down with the bad. Whatever works best for the individual 😊

    Try it with no knees!

Deep respect! Turns out knees are very helpful.

Gonna have to try the going up thing. I'm getting more natural going down that way, but every once in a while i flash back to your tictoc version of this and wonder if I really should. 😀 Just kidding, I love your stuff.

This is one of my biggest struggles; and Yes inclines too.
Thank you for sharing this tip. I will definitely be trying it out to see if it will work for me. Keep your helpful tips coming. I appreciate them. ❤

Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have been struggling with this forever! I'm going to start practicing this today, and yes, the hang the toe over is very intimidating for sure. I'll keep at it until I can do it as good as you.... you're the best!!

Thanks. I learned a new way to go up the stairs. I need to “drag” my AK leg up. BK… AK… BK… 💜

I always use handrails when available. I had them installed on our front stairs, 10 stairs, and the inlaw unit we built for our daughter which only has three stairs. Only one handrail on that small house. Why wouldn't you use handrails? It makes it so much safer. It's obvious you do very well on stairs. I do too, but again, find it much safer to use handrails. I'm surprised you didn't mention it or use them.

Having seen you do that it occurs to me when going up, on two bio feet, and quickening my pace, I use the balls of my feet. I also know we use our toes for traction... because my dad lost two toe to frostbite when he was "young" (teens I think) and sometimes had a "slip and catch himself" moment on stair when he tried to use the toes that weren't there any more.

You walk up and down stairs great. I’m a bilateral (BK and AK) and do 1 step at a time following the advice “up with the good and down with the bad”. In other words, I lead with my BK leg (good side) going up and lead with my AK leg (bad side) going down.

I'm surprised you have enough strength on your amputated side to lift yourself the way you do. Congrats on that. Most I've seen climb with the uninjured leg an simply follow up to that step., so they only cover one step with each cycle...but yours is a continuous cycle as in a normal gait. I know you were a marine so perhaps you have muscle tone that others don't have. But I do wonder how long you will be able to keep this method up. But for now, good going !!

I'd say L leg is better bc you can probably still drive. My state requires me to take a road test before driving again. Gotta order a L leg pedal adapter so I can drive again 🙄😕
