Hi Deb. I watched another Aussie this morning, “So Something Pretty” and she mentioned you, I immediately looked you up and watched your 1st video. I am not a blogger but love to watch along on this community. I have been sewing for some 55years and also took sewing as a class at school for 1 year. But I continued at hi,e in my teens on my mums treadle machine until I purchased my very first Elna lotus machine. I then purchased a bigger elna and now have a Pfaff. My very first little elna is still going, I handed it on to my daughter, who isn’t at all interested in sewing, and now to my granddaughter, who is also not interested. I am sad that they aren’t but never mind. I have had highs and lows with my sewing. Fitting is my biggest issue. I procrastinate so much that I don’t get started on anything. I have never made a touile, too much wasted time and fabric. I follow a lot of pattern adjustment videos, but still get confused. Anyway, I am going to watch you other videos over the weekend, I know I will enjoy them. I also knit and am trying to knit a jumper “in the round” 😬😬 haven’t started it yet as a bit scary. I live in the South East of SA. I agree with you, about this community, I watch so many that I think of the, as personal friends. It’s lovely. None of my friends are into sewing at all. Things are so cheap,to,buy why sew. !!! but it is my hobby.xx

Hello Denise, thanks for your comment. It was lovely of Katrina from 'Sew Something Pretyy' to highlight my channel. Lovely to hear a bit about you and your sewing journey. Hold onto that original Elna if you can, they are worth alot and rare as 'hen's teeth'. People in my sewing group are clambouring to get hold of them cos they are such a workhorse, easy to transport and handy to take to workshops. Sorry that noone has taken up the sewing in your family yet, but you never know, they might come to it later. Have a lovely weekend. Happy sewing

Yay Deb!!! Another Aussie sewing vlogger 🌼🌼 Adore the sheet fabric, and great pattern to show it off. I'm in Adelaide and call it the Eastern States too. Loved your first vlog. Ana (Pattern Pouch Nest) told me about you and immediately came to support. Woohooo Aussies are taking over the world 🤣🤣
I also started with an Elna (still have it and love it) I upgraded to a Bernette b77, I'd love a Bernina, wouldn't we all 😉. My thought process was the Bernette (made by Bernina) is really a Bernina base, in a plain cover (homebrand Bernina 🤣) Good luck on the machine hunt! You wait, I'm about to go catch up on your video library, probably find out you've already made a purchase!

I've been following a number of people and just a couple of months of ago I decided that I needed to engage with the community more. Deb, it really is lovely to see a West Aussie representing! I now use the term sewist as I never considered myself a 'dress maker' or 'seamstress' as that all sounds so professional. I used to use sewer but the other pronunciation and meaning is awful and completely unrelated to the hobby.Try as I might, the harder I work on something it seems the more likely I am to make mistakes. It's infuriating. I failed sewing in Home Ec at school. Much like you I didn't get along with the teacher and she and the aid were always with the high needs students, the rest of us were left to figure it out alone. I walked in to school a week later (before uniform was compulsory in public schools) wearing a dress and the teacher complimented it but she was a bit taken aback when I said, "thanks, I made it" and walked off. I was sewing before home ec, I knew how to sew and I was so disgruntled to have failed the class component lol There was a sewists meet up at Kings Park today(?) which I was curious about but couldn't get to the city for. Did you go, by chance? It was advertised on Instagram. Having got a new machine in 2022 I suggest you do your research and go to the shops and see demos and use the machines. I think for the money that was spent I could have made a better choice. I purchased a Baby Lock Euphoria in 2021 and I adore it!! I would 100% recommend it without question, but the Janome 9400 I would hesitate to recommend (completely above your budget so not really valid). My point being, we rushed that purchase and I wish I had more time to explore before choosing it.

Hi Deb. I found your second video first so have now enjoyed this introduction. I can relate to so much of what you say. I discovered another channel Viv Mom Sews just 3 months ago and it inspired me to sew again after nearly 25 years. That lead me to finding 'sew' many great channels but I really resonate with Australian channels. I've learned a lot from them already and made myself 4 lovely tops, 2 from an Op shop doona cover, and 2 pairs of yoga pants drafted from an old pair I already owned. For Christmas I even invested in an overlocker as my old Janome Combi only had a 2 thread overlocker attached to it. I've thoroughly enjoyed my new hobby and I very much appreciate all you lovely ladies on TH-cam who have inspired and taught me 'sew' much already. Keep up the good work and hi from Queensland.

Hello Deb ! I just discovered YOU and couldn't wait to subscribe. Greetings from Fairbanks, Alaska. Upcycling, sewing and crafting with old vintage linens are my "jam" and I can't wait to see what you come up with in your videos. Thrifting is an addiction for me and I need to stay out of the shops for awhile to transform some of my items. You have great presence in front of the camera and a very easy and relaxed presentation. We could be good friends if you lived down the street from me, but alas Perth is very far from Alaska. It will have to be a long distance relationship I think :).

Hi Kim, thanks for your comment. Sounds like we have very similar interests. There are just so many options and ideas out there in the op shops, that I too have to keep away a little, otherwise I end up with a feeling of overwhelm and borderline hoarding. Yes, Perth is way way way too far away from Alaska, unfortunately. Happy sewing and creating!

Oh WOW!!! I’ve just watched your first episode. It’s me all over! My love for sewing started at school. I remember all the basics I was taught and they are still with me today. I sewed so much for our children when they were little, mainly for financial reasons as well. I also get bored with some of the processes & race ahead predicting what is next, then have to fix it. When younger if something didn’t work, I would get frustrated, leave it & go onto another make. Now I make sure I work patiently with what I’m making & see it through. I will watch your other episodes now & see what other familiarities there are. 🧡Sue, Vic, Aust. 8.30am.

I have found there is so many options out there and the best approach for me was to do alot of exploring online first, then go into the shop and give a couple a try. Also, because what I am used to is an older machine, basically ANY new machine will feel amazing. Being very clear on what exactly you want is critical. I want an LED light and an automatic thread snip function. Have fun with it all. Happy sewing
