I wish we could explain how amazing it was when the Dreamcast came out, and how every arcade port was either perfect or even better than the original. When we got Soul Calibur or doa2 in our hands, we were expecting a PlayStation-level port - a good effort, but not quite there - and instead, we were blown away by how much better they were.
Good to know. For the most part in this “hobby” people are generally cool and likeable. Or at least they are that way towards me. But I also realize people may be nicer to me because I’m me in the whole scenario 🤷🏻♂️
First game that pops? RESIDENT EVIL CODE VERONICA! I went through several Dreamcast consoles because the game wouldn't work... When it finally DID... THAT WAS THE DREAMCAST I KEPT!😁
@@VideoGameEsoterica I'm pretty happy with what I got!😉👍 The Code Veronica X Hack for the Dreamcast is the BEST! With the exception of REmake, I just watch someone ELSE play these new games... Those Horror Game Movies ROCK!😁
If those developers EVER listened to their CUSTOMERS... On the Android version of ReDream... (even AFTER you pay for the upgrade...) There's Menu dots that aren't removable during gameplay! TONS of comments about those DOTS... I just started using the Flycast RetroArch core instead! It doesn't perform as WELL... But, I don't have menu dots!😁 EXCELLENT VIDEO AS ALWAYS... What comes to mind is playing Ready 2 Rumble Boxing on New Year's Eve in 1999. Also the first NBA 2k and Vigilante 8 2nd offense. I never had one but friends did.
Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2 are the first games that come to mind when I think of the Dreamcast (with honourable mentions to Code Veronica, Shenmue and Virtua Tennis).
Although I have a Dreamcast with Japanese and USA Light guns, I prefer playing Redream with my SINDEN upscaled. Graphics are so much nicer. Plus being able to play Dreamcast on the cell phone with a Bluetooth controller is sweet.
Big fan of Redream, though I don't use it so much now that I got a HDMI modded Dreamcast taking pride of place under my main TV, still it's useful for House of The Dead 2
Redream is a great emulator! By the way, I asked you about a problem I had with getting my Saturn working on MiSTer. I download the BIOS you recommended and still couldn’t get the damn thing to work. Saturn is the only system I can’t get to work for some reason.
@VideoGameEsoterica thank you for the reply. When I load up a game on Saturn, I just have a blank screen. I named the BIOS to boot.rom too, but nothing seems to work. For some reason this core is giving me a hard time. 🤦🏻♂️
And it’s the most recent core? That means either the bios is in the wrong location (needs to be in Saturn folder) or the bios is bad. Only two reasons that happens
@ yeah, just updated a couple of weeks ago. Dropped the BIOS in the Saturn game folder. I found them online. I guess I’ll search for new ones. Any recommendations? I know it shouldn’t be that hard to get this core to work. I get all the other CD ROM cores to work without any problem. I’ve actually been back and forth with this core for about a year now lol.
The Dreamcast was Sega's worst console. From the terrible controller design, the lack of third party support, and the endless arcade ports, makes this console a stinker. The Saturn was Sega's last, and greatest, console, while the Dreamcast is an afterthought. The Dreamcast is what the Saturn could have been if Sega wasn't so hell-bent on destroying itself from within.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Can't? Or won't? The Dreramcast did not have the Sega charm that made the other consoles so great. It had no soul. Just like the playstation.

It was an awesome time to be a Sega fan. For two years we had it all. Then it all came crashing down
Dreamcast and Shenmue made my Christmas in 2000. The feeling was one of pure excitement and optimism. The future looked so bright.
And sadly the death of Sega as we knew them was right around the corner. From the highest high to the lowest low in 24ish months
First game that comes to mind for me is Crazy Taxi
Quintessentially Dreamcast
inolen is a nice guy, always had positive interactions with him on the Redream Discord.

Poor CV. The only game Capcom seems determined to ignore. We’ve had so many remakes. Give us Code Veronica!

All fun but I still want my CV remake!
Man Redream is magical. When it became popular in 2020 my intel celeron laptop w/ 4GB RAM ran it flawlesly with all DC games tested
Yes Dreamcast emulation is thankfully pretty low spec compatible which is always nice
I love to enjoy an ice-cold Hassie after work
great job as always
Thanks :)

lol so how do you feel about dots?
I have a feeling you dream of those dots. 😀
I think it's worth mentioning that CDI is also the de-facto homebrew format.
True. Works better when that’s the original intent

I honestly never got into it back in the day weirdly

I *dream* of the day Sega *casts* their line back into the console market!
Stop Sega bass fishing for dad jokes
Sorry dad, but the more you tell me not to do something, the more I want to rebel! 😎

Yes if you don’t have a CRT than emulation with modern LCd capable lightguns is clutch

What isn’t working? Do you get a bios splash? I’d need some more info

Hi Saturn 1.02 bios is what I use
Demul or chancast is better higer res and light gun emulation harder to setup but more compatble.
I’ll probably talk about Demul soon

Both haha. But I’m not trying to convince you to feel a diff way. I just don’t agree
