- In this gripping battle between Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk, a tricky spot rears its head during the High Stakes Feud hosted in the PokerGO studio in Las Vegas. Negreanu is left with an awkward decision on the river!
Perhaps one of the most curious decisions in this entire poker hand was the decision from KidPoker to check back the turn. This is a perfect spot to bet your straights, sets, and a few bluffs. Was this a slip up from Negreanu? Negreanu must believe that Doug Polk will be drastically over-bluffing the river!
Perhaps we shouldn’t be too quick to discredit Negreanu’s decision-making. At 49 years old, he is in the top 10 on the all-time poker money list with over $51,500,000 in total live earnings, alongside 6 World Series of Poker bracelets.
Originally from Toronto, Canada - but currently residing in Las Vegas, USA - Negreanu grew up playing primarily cash games and has appeared on many popular poker shows, such as High Stakes Poker, Poker After Dark, and High Stakes Duel (he won the most recent season beating Eric Persson and Doug Polk, claiming $200,000 in winnings and the championship belt!)
Doug Polk is a part owner of The Lodge Card Room, along with Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme. Doug has over $10,000,000 in live tournament earnings and 3 WSOP bracelets, which includes a win in the $100k Super High Roller for $3,686,865 in 2017.
The High Stakes Feud started in November 2020 from inside the PokerGO Studio, as Doug Polk and Daniel Negreanu sat down to play their first session of the 25,000-hand quota that would see the two battle online, playing two tables of $200/$400 No-Limit Texas Hold'em (NLHE).
Daniel Negreanu won the first and only live session of the High Stakes Feud, winning $116,500 from the 200 poker hands they played. However, Doug Polk ended up beating Daniel Negreanu in the High Stakes Feud for just over $1,200,000.
🃏 Preflop:
In this gripping heads-up marathon between Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk, we join hand #97 when Negreanu looks down at Q6h from the small blind. With the blinds at $200/$400, he bumps it up to $1000. Doug makes the easy call with his QTo.
🔥 Flop: 9c 8h 5d
Doug checks it over to Negreanu, who fires out for $1,500 with his gutshot. Doug, who has a gutshot of his own, calls.
💪 Turn: 7h
An action packed turn improves Doug to a two-way straight draw. He checks it over to Negreanu, hoping to see a cheap river.
But there should be no chance of that, as the second heart arrives on the felt, completing Negreanu’s straight draw and giving him further insurance in the hand with a flush draw!
How much will Negreanu charge Doug to see the river? Can Doug hit a miracle 14% out and steal the hand from Negreanu? Tune in to this poker video to find out!

Ungar vs Ivey

@@Solwa54 Haha
That would be legendary! Stu just had a 6th sense when it came to poker, Ivey is the GOAT so I don’t know who would win but I would love to see it!
yes please
@@swooopg I think Phil would smash him
Thanks a lot for not covering HCL for a change, nice to see you cover hands from actual pros! To me when a one liner to a straight higher than my own comes on the river it's time to check back rather than let Doug have the chance to check raise and I have a tough decision to make (I would definitely fold).
U vs. BlackRain
Battle of the coaches!
Is this the biggest fold ever? I mean he has the 3rd nuts in a spot where having the 2 better hands isn't impossible or even unlikely.
Stu Ungar vs Tom Dwan
Gonna be a bit weird, but I’d love to see nik air all vs any top level pro, just to see him lose multiple buyins.
You mean see the top level pro get stacked
@@tqsuitedI mean Airball lost $1m to someone who’s solid but not top tier. He’d get crushed by anyone who’s studied at high level HUNL. Airball can’t even beat the HCL games lol
@@BrodyGrim one day the world will recognize the Pure Genius of Nik Airball

Just saw this hand. Absolutely wild
I learn when u are not in best position to call the raise just check that 1000 in 5000 pot was not really worth to risk get raise just check and safe
It is interesting because it felt like he was trying to be fancy and induce a bluff but then didn't snap call
Stu unger v like swartz
I’d like to see you play one of these legends HU. Ivey, PH, Dnegs, etc. I don’t see a lot of your play, just videos, books & such. One of the reasons you’re my favorite go to when I study is your play style and history of loving strategy games mimics mine. Started in MM boom on SnGs then to MTTs then to most all formats except high low games because I just haven’t studied this enough. I used to win in the 2003-2012 era before the crash in US by being hyper aggressive. Took 9 years off came back and wasn’t winning online. People had gotten better. Studied you and others for 6 months and started binking both live and online which I find much tougher now especially at the $ & above buy ins (online). I think they play about like a 1k live.
Doug not immediately figuring out DN's hand...cuz he's (at that moment) only thinking of final hands with rivered J. Of course, he knew he had to fade a heart on the river. He definitely figured it out shortly thereafter.
Doug Polk Vs Berkey would be fun. I imagine Doug would have to give Berkey a few BB’s/100 to get the negotiation over the line mind you.
Daniel has a tough time doing the gto math in his head without using his fingers to air scribble lol
Stu ungar vs Doyle

"Better than a six" - maybe? I get that he has a blocker to the nuts and I suppose it reduces the combinations of hands which can have him beat, but that's pretty thin.
"Better than a 6" because he had a redraw to a flush too
@@harrylarrison4417 yes, I think that's what he meant, but Polk was confused because he thought Daniel meant it was better than a 6 on the river.
I guess you could consider one "dead"... But I'd like to see Doug Polk go up against that AI program that beat most everyone it played against HU
What’s that ai called?
@@ai_master7, I forgot. I'm sure it would come up readily in a search
No like he said he bet 1 thousand knowing he’d get re raised. But you’re right Polk should’ve bet more I think he didn’t because he didn’t think Daniel had the 6 with him checking the turn. Daniel should’ve bet the turn for sure but this pot would’ve been huge and he would’ve lost even though the odds were in his favor. Worked out for him in the long run lol.
Brunson Vs Chan would be epic. 2 icons.
Also Ivey Vs Dnegs
Watching Hellmuth battle Addamo would be extremely entertaining! 😂
Me vs any of the pros from the 80s. I’d like to see just how much of a difference amateur level knowledge today makes against the play style they had back then.

Hey, why do you say 8's or 9s don't need to bluff the river after c/c the flop?
Because you have “showdown value”
Bluffing is for when you miss or believe you are losing and need to steal the pot.
