I would love to own a 240 one day. Something about them is so timeless. I currently have a fleet of V40's, a 2003 V40 1.9D, a 2003 V40 2.0T and a 2015 V40 2.0T. We love all three of them, absolutely fantastic cars that will be in the family for as long as possible
I have two C70 soft top convertibles that nobody seems to think are that special…but to me they stand for an attempt to make open air driving the safest possible and I hope I have at least one of them the rest of my life. Thanks Volvo!
I owned my first Volvo in the 70's. I gad a 240DL then 240GL, followed by 740GL and 760 GL Turbo. Following a gap while living abroad, I returned to an 850 GLT Estate, and for the last four years an XC40, which has been brilliant! I just love them and would love to find a good 70's 240 to keep forever. Best cars I ever owned.
Very nice video. I own a Volvo 240 GLE and it is my daily driver. My grandfather bought the car new, this was the 3rd 240 he had one in the 70s/80s/90s. When my grandfather died in 1997, the car was sold by the family. I was born in 1999. and 25 years after selling the car, when I was 21 years old, I tracked down the car again after a long search. I could buy my grandfather's last car back as my first car. greetings from the Neterlands
The XC60 can't hold a candle to the greatness of the 240. My family was loyal to Volvo until we had a terrible experience with a vehicle from the post-RWD era. Volvo needs to get back to its roots: Quality + Safety in an affordable package.
When i turned 18 last november i inherited my families old 240 from '88 as my first car. It's still in need of work, and it's dead atm, but man do i love this car! Im afraid no other car will ever feel as good
I recently bought a four speed manual 244dl from 1977. The previous owner installed so many nice features aswell as leather seats, which were uncommon for the dl series as far as I know. This car is my first classic car, and I truly fell in love with it. The sound, the looks, just everything. Long live the VOLVO!
Not to mention the 240 in turbo form decimated the touring car opposition in the early 1980s in Europe and won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1986. Suddenly the jokes about them being "doctor's cars" were no longer jokes but a sign of deep respect.
I drove 16 Volvo's, from age +- 28 yrs. All 245 model, most gasoline/LPG, 2 diesel (VW). All till ready for the scrapyard, some with 660.000 Km's, without revision. Cannot remember one broken-down engine. Ended with a 850, station-model, nickname de ""Roffel(bak) 5-cyl. frontwheel drive, autom. FANTASTIC!
Loved the video. I own a 1981 244 GLE and I'm happy to be able to drive a car that meant as much in car history. I take part in classics events with it and people always smile when they see it. Greetings from southern Argentina!
I drive the wheels off my '91 240. I am constantly being accosted by people honking at me, waving at me, taking pictures of the car, wanting to talk to me about the car, reminiscing about having one in their family as a kid, etc, etc. My only comment is always the same: "It's the best car ever made."

The Haynes manual (for driveway mechanics) spanned from 1974 to 1993 for the 240 series. (Main differences were Carb vs Fuel Injection and ATE vs Girling Brakes etc). NOW THAT's LONGEVITY ! Solid car with a great design, not as "boxy" as it was portrayed... wish I still had my 1976 "Canada Dry Green" 244 and/or my 1982 244 GLT (both were standard transmission).
I so remember the UK press advertisements that launched the 245 and 244. What really impressed me were the advances to the great design of the 140 models.
I have 240 92 wagon and then i accidently slid it on the snow to lightpole after that i have been fixing it swapping whole sidepanel of trunk area from another wagon, never want to let my 240 go because it's my first car and my dad is it's second owner so got some sentimental value to it and while waiting that i get it fixed i bought volvo V90 1998 and been loving that car too😊
I started my career in auto repair in 2005. It became clear to me that the Volvo brick was among the toughest cars of all time. There were 2 others cars I quickly saw as being extremely tough. It was the mechanical Benz diesel and the Ford Crown Vic.
Grew up in the back of 850s and V70s, own a V40 and absolutely love it, safest and best built hatchback ever. Please do a new hatchback car Volvo! A modernised V40 would be a great alternative to the others on the market.
I drive a 96 940 sedan, love that car, my parents and i bought it almost 6 years ago, and so far all thats been replaced are the tyres, brakes, one of those links that connect the front swaybar to the front struts and ofcourse regular oilchanges. It may look rough on the outside with all the paint chips its gotten but it still runs and drives like new, and the interior is almost perfect. Dont think ill ever get rid of it.

There are two particular brands of automobiles that I adore. SAAB (With my trusty, safe & reliable 2002 9-3 Convertible) and Volvo. Especially love the V70. Although i must confess. I have little experience with the models of Volvo. I have driven the XC60. Which is a safe powerhouse of a vehicle!
240 DL un verdadero tanque, en mi familia soliamos decirle “el avion” porque con el motor 2.4L era algo increible paea ser un sedan, luego usamos el 940, 460 s40 y actualmente el s60
I've only ever driven one 245 and it was actually a Transfer model, the extra long one. It was my friend's dad's car and I was the only one with a drivers license. I had 3 or 4 buddies in the back and I was towing a boat too and I vividly remember that the gear lever could go from drivers floor to passenger floor and all the gears were somewhere in the middle 2 centimeters... I remember because it was almost impossible to find first gear, and starting in second with a boat in tow was not ideal, nevermind the 4 or 5 teen boys in the car. Funny memory.
You can thrash these things to any level but all they require for repairs is a toothbrush, and then they'll run like new Brilliant Swedish engineering❤ 🎉
Some people see new cars with turbo power and worry. They think turbo power is always going to be a problem. I tell them that it can be done right and last long. The Volvo Brick had optional turbo engines and did not ruin the reputation. There were other turbocharged gasoline engines that held up, but I think Volvo was the best example.

I am 27 years old and I am daily driving a Volvo 240 polar of 1993. After it got around 300 000 kilometers on the clock, I became its owner and I will remain so as long as I can.
Thanks for keeping a classic on the road! 🙌🙌 /Anthony
Amazing to hear! What colour would you choose for the Volvo 240? /Jade
@@VolvoCars Hmm I think either red or a nice burgundy/brown, something with a bit of nice colour to it!
Wonderful! /Anthony
I have two C70 soft top convertibles that nobody seems to think are that special…but to me they stand for an attempt to make open air driving the safest possible and I hope I have at least one of them the rest of my life. Thanks Volvo!
They are definitely special!🤍 /Niamh
I owned my first Volvo in the 70's. I gad a 240DL then 240GL, followed by 740GL and 760 GL Turbo. Following a gap while living abroad, I returned to an 850 GLT Estate, and for the last four years an XC40, which has been brilliant! I just love them and would love to find a good 70's 240 to keep forever. Best cars I ever owned.
What is the best adventure your Volvo XC40 has taken you on? /Anthony
What a beautiful story! /Anthony
The XC60 can't hold a candle to the greatness of the 240. My family was loyal to Volvo until we had a terrible experience with a vehicle from the post-RWD era.
Volvo needs to get back to its roots: Quality + Safety in an affordable package.
Just saw an import Volvo sedan here in the Philippines, the design really shined brighter than our shiny, steel jeepneys over here lol
Which Volvo model is your favourite? /Niamh
When i turned 18 last november i inherited my families old 240 from '88 as my first car. It's still in need of work, and it's dead atm, but man do i love this car! Im afraid no other car will ever feel as good
This is great to hear! We hope you can get on the roads soon🙌 /Niamh
Will you take your Volvo on many road trips over the coming years? /Niamh
@@VolvoCars Ofc I will ;)
Not to mention the 240 in turbo form decimated the touring car opposition in the early 1980s in Europe and won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1986. Suddenly the jokes about them being "doctor's cars" were no longer jokes but a sign of deep respect.
No better place to be as a kid in 80s Scotland during winter than in my dad's 240 driving in the snow.
We hope our video has sparked some great memories! 💙🤍 /Anthony
I love that the Volvo reflects on its history, unlike other brands ♥ Great video 🔥
What model is your favourite? /Liz
@@VolvoCars If I had to choose only one, it would probably be the 850R 😍 Proven by some to be one of the best cars for exploring Africa 😁
I watched an ad or what this now is. And I am not disappointed. Viva La Vida Volvo
I love this comment! 🙌 /Jade
FANTASTIC!
Thank you so much for being a loyal Volvo owner! Do you have a favourite out of all models you have owned? /Millie
Loved the video. I own a 1981 244 GLE and I'm happy to be able to drive a car that meant as much in car history. I take part in classics events with it and people always smile when they see it. Greetings from southern Argentina!
Amazing to hear! What do you love the most about your Volvo 244? /Niamh
I drive the wheels off my '91 240. I am constantly being accosted by people honking at me, waving at me, taking pictures of the car, wanting to talk to me about the car, reminiscing about having one in their family as a kid, etc, etc. My only comment is always the same: "It's the best car ever made."
Thank you for keeping one of our classics on the road /Anthony
Volvo,
I am a huge fan of the 240s. Will there ever be a time where you guys can bring this car back with updated safety features and emission standards?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to share future plans or car launches. Keep up to date on the latest information concerning our models on our website or at your local Volvo retailer! /Niamh
this legend use unstoppable engine of 240 and 740 they top one list of strong engines of all times and miles bravo volvo makes beast engines not only car.
🙌🙌 /Anthony
Hi there Robin, did you ever get the chance to drive a Volvo 240? /Anthony
@@VolvoCars Hello Anthony - sadly no, but I've always admired these Volvo cars.
Just recently got my first car and guess what, it's a 244, a living breathing legend.
How exciting! What do you love most about your new Volvo 244? /Jade
@@VolvoCars I love the fact that I can work on it and fix it myself. edit: and it handles like a dream 😎
Used to drive an '87 240 DL that was white with a blue interior. It was a beast of a car! I miss it!
Blue interior sounds lovely! How long did you own it for? /Anthony
I just bought a Volvo 142 from 1974, last year they was made. Same color as the one in the video. looks good
How exciting! We wish you many happy miles in your new Volvo 142 😊 /Jade
Прекрасная машина, у меня была 1993г в 2020) в отличном состоянии! Каждая заправка это расспросы😂 обожаю эту тачку! С днём рождения!🎉🎉🎉

Grew up in the back of 850s and V70s, own a V40 and absolutely love it, safest and best built hatchback ever. Please do a new hatchback car Volvo! A modernised V40 would be a great alternative to the others on the market.
I rememner this car! Awesome and beautiful masterpiece of engineering!
🙌🙌 /Anthony
The best volvo model ever
Sad to see what volvo turned into today
I drive a 96 940 sedan, love that car, my parents and i bought it almost 6 years ago, and so far all thats been replaced are the tyres, brakes, one of those links that connect the front swaybar to the front struts and ofcourse regular oilchanges. It may look rough on the outside with all the paint chips its gotten but it still runs and drives like new, and the interior is almost perfect. Dont think ill ever get rid of it.
A very trusty companion! What other Volvo model would you choose to drive? /Jade
@@VolvoCars I have a few id like to own/drive. A manual s60r would be pretty fun, the 1st gen C70s are beautiful cars. Id also like to find a rolling 121 (amazon) chassi and fit a b30 in it. Pretty much all generations of volvo offer something cool or good looking so i wouldnt mind any of them really.
We understand, it is very hard to choose! /Millie
My parents had a 264,740 and 850. Never owned a Volvo myself yet I like the brand.
Would you like to own a Volvo in the future?🙌 /Niamh
I love the 240. I learn to drive on a navy blue blue interior 1976 245DL and years I had a 240 wagon in the 90s 👍
What a great car to learn to drive in!🙌 /Niamh
i really hope this is a sign of greater things for the future
Great production!
Thanks for your support! /Anthony
almost my whole family drives volvo. my father has worked on volvo 240,140s and many other classic models almost his entire life. he even was the map reader in rallys that he and my uncle raced in. they drove a 244gl she was a angel. i have my own 245 glt -90 that my old teacher gifted me back in -14. i will never sell it
Amazing! What do you love most about your Volvo 245? /Jade
1982 ...244, automatic...1997, 740 wagon automatic... 2002...242, 4 speed w/o, never in great condition, but did the job, and cleaned up beautifully...2004, 740, automatic, 2020, XC 70 automatic, current Volvo ... Once you have had one...nothing compares. Also had a BMW 528, and a 320i...Volvo, is the preferable choice....for my life...

I remember my grandpa's 1987 240 DL. He drove that car till it stopped. Had about 430,000 miles on it before she quit. To this day, it's still sitting in his garage.

Had a 93 240 wagon (245), 00 V70 and a 03 S60. All were excellent cars with the S60 protecting my family in a nasty T- bone collision. We were unharmed, it was totaled. Really miss all three.

I hope to buy one in the years to come, and will take great care of it, as it will take great care of me.
Many thanks VOLVO.

Recently bought my second 240, it's a 75 so it was the first production year. It definitely won't be my last one

240 DL un verdadero tanque, en mi familia soliamos decirle “el avion” porque con el motor 2.4L era algo increible paea ser un sedan, luego usamos el 940, 460 s40 y actualmente el s60

Simply the best car ever made!
What do you love most about it? /Anthony
Wow, what a great memory, Adam! Have you driven any other Volvos since? /Jade
Please produce them again, like 1:1 not a new or remake, just give us the car that is already perfect 🎉🎉🎉

The best looking volvo

@ yeah but an older one stayed in the family for 23 years.
