I did a head gasket on this car, and i installed a new bush there, can't remember off the top of my head if i filmed the replacement of the rear, the process is identical to the front one if your looking to do it but far more fiddly to get excess to especially on the Spi / Mpi (injection) minis.
I ended up taking the entire master cylinder and associated framework, push and pull stuff. Replaced the master cylinder. Refurbished servo (mini spares kit) the and got relatively easy access to the bulk head end of the engine steady. A 4 hour ten minute job.
When i done mine, the car shop supplied a bush kit, 2 half rubbers and 2 metal inserts that were silghtley tappered as the insert pulled together they forced the rubber bushes out at the sides making it very tight in the steady arm, cured the problem but seem to have increased engine noise in the car, could the idea have been a shite one ...Your thoughts?
Not at all, I have since changed for updated poly bushes which are a one piece. Bit of a pain to install but should be stronger. The 2 piece are the factory standard ones but you can get poly / updated
i changed back to the original top steady bushes, new rubber bits but used the original tube insert, all my engine noise in the car gone, i think the tapered inserts had made the rubber so tight in the arm it transfered engine noise into the car behind the dash clocks.
Yeah it’s a Reasonably easy job unless the bolts snapped into the engine block. If that happens Mini spares do a alternative kit to bypass the broken in stud.
I did ask about my engine running on the cold side all the time, semi cured by fitting an 88deg stat and reverse flushing the heater matrix with a jet washer and air line, temp gauge is showing slightly higher but not much, and the heater is just about keeping my feet from frezzing.
@@WilliamMurfitt its all std, 1 owner from new, then me, the lady who had it said not much went wrong nerver service or at least as far as i can tell, although i did find a new rear brake slave on one side and new ish shoes both sides, so something has been done. It been standing for 12 years, cluch slave very stuck clutch arm stuck in the clutch cover, brake master stuck in the master, new slave for the clutch the rest i unstuck with very hot diesel over the stuck clutch arm, stripped and cleaned the master cylinder it was rusted nr the end where the rod pushes in, so easy fix.
most of the problem was rust on the panels had to change rear 1/4, door skin, front wing, and the lower bit where the indicator fits, all on the drivers side, sills all good, a bit on the floors at the front both sides, and up the A post to where the vent sits.
Not sure, more places offer upgraded pumps, and they will all be able to offer guidance over the phone, email or face to face. I just fitted the part i didnt order on this occasion sorry.
Have you got a video of the same including changing the bushes at the bulkhead end too?

@@elwynrowlands9486 awesome job, well done
What sized socket do you need?
1/2” socket, however a 13 will fit but it’s not correct
@@WilliamMurfitt thanks!

Nice fiddly job on an spi then! Top work mate
You can say that again, mod cons are great but it sure limits the amount of room to work in
Top video mate, churning videos faster than I can watch um 😂
That's me done until the weekend pal :) glad you liked it though
That is on my ever growing to do list. No space at all in the spi to work!
No your not wrong there DB absolute pain to get too
Good Info Will....
Thanks Randy
As usual great video Will. :-)
Cole it really means a lot to read this from a top youtuber like yourself thank you so much
@@WilliamMurfitt :-) I really like your content. So its not hard saying something nice about it haha.

Thankfully I've not had one snapp on me yet :) but it's great that there are alternatives out there

What's the antifreeze/coolant like? You may have an uprated radiator helping to keep things cool. Idea for the summer months

@@markwhitfield5412 sounds like you have a very original mini right there
