Classic Mini Restoration fitting the engine after 2 years! in this video i show you how to fit a classic mini engine! :)

And Here you will be able to follow my classic mini restoration from start to finish! It is an Austin Mini Mayfair 998cc registered in 1986. I bought the car with 2 months MOT and it was running although the slave cylinder had gone. My plans for the car are to restore it to my standards just like my Orange one if not even better... if thats possible. More videos on the way of the classic mini so be sure to subscribe and keep up to date.

You kids have it so easy. I remember doing a swap on my mate's Mini back in the '80s. No crane, just the two of us lifting it in by hand. Damn kids these days... *grumble grumble*
And looking back on it, it was stupidly, and stupidly heavy - how we didn't bust a gut of blow a disk is beyond me. Still...great days. :-D

Looks fantastic - so nice when everything is cleaned up and painted. We have decided to not put back the sound deadening material on my son's, it just takes away from the clean look and collects dirt. Look forward to seeing your finished job. We are many months behind you and going at a much slower pace.

I got all my stuff from Huddersfield mini spares in my time and they were mint for everything just unfortunately didn't have what you needed at the time 👍
Huddersfield spares is good supplier however the chrome work is cheap and doesn't last long
Because of this video I made sure my engine mounts were the non captive but type! 👍 cheers!
Hey Tim, once again great work. Just a pointer make sure you fit the gear box selector and stabilize rod, before you bolt up the manifold 👍🏼

& it was ........ a Ford Granada , in Australia they were called "Falcon" 6 cylinder 4.1 litre they also had 4.9 v8 ,

Now it's on its wheels, get the inlet and exhaust manifold(s) fitted, best to keep the engine steadies off the car until carb is in place and wired up, then fit the radiator, alternator and starter. Then double check everything is connected before cranking...

Dear god, what have I started, I claim royalty rights hahah.
that was a great video, yea those captive nuts can drive you mad but trying to fit normal nut and bolts especially the one behind the clutch housing can be nightmare - and being follically challenged myself i would be well up for a team slap head T shirt :) - keep those videos coming :)

well done. but you still have the fan on the wrong way if you havnt chanred it already and the spacer needs to go in some where to insure the pullys lign up

When you unbolted the top ball joints I thought u might of sorted the CV boot out at the same time

Hi , l bet that was Fun to do , oh & your Mate's arse kinda got in the way of the Motor being put in (sorry engine , to all you Brit's out there ) How much was the engine alone was it a recon part build ,or new total rebuild , oh could you ship it over to Melbourne , Australia after you have finished it " lol "
hahaha! cheers mate! and the engine hasn't been rebuilt it came with the complete car :) its just been sprayed up and had the clutch changed :) in my opinion which fix something that isnt broke :)

no need to remove wheels and pop the ball joints, lower the engine with the drivers side lower and put first pot joint in then lower the other side of the engine and slide in the other pot joint , job done .. I wouldn't have painted the gearbox either it can affect cooling in't summer.

Sometimes I really try to figure out how to build another garage at my place... A standard 3 car just doesn't cut it.
Then I see these poor chaps working under a freakin' ISIS tent they learned about watching Survivorman...

Yes the captive nuts can be 'tiresome'. I used bolts with a 'lead in' when I 'dry fitted' the gearcasings to check everything lined up. They have a 'lead' of no thread so it guides the thread in place. Quite common on new car manufacture and the Scanias I worked on. Just use the same bolts and turn down the thread for a few millimetres as it only sticks out anyway! Useful in many other places on a Mini
