I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

These were done in one year--and you just learned how to knit. Way to go! I was very impressed with the nordic patterned/ multicolored sweaters. It’s good to be self critic but I’m glad you patted yourself on the back on the favorites. Gosh you have done very well young lady! Kudos to you and let’s see what you do for the rest of the year😊😊😊

You absolutely blew me away with the amount of knitting you have done your first year knitting and especially the difficulty level that you have mastered. I love your energy and all around vibe!

You have accomplished so much in one year of knitting. I think my favorite item that you've made is the plum color sweater.

  • @anishinaabae

i think what's most impressive to me is your quick grasp of colour theory! i've never branched out into different colour palettes because i'm very goth so my wardrobe is strictly black, gray, with some blood red mixed in for good measure. unfortunately that means i'm absolute garbage at discerning which colours go well with others!
seeing the palettes you chose right off the bat is delightful - you clearly have an eye for what works.

Thanks so much! I used to be a graphic designer so that definitely helps. If you want to branch out I like to look at what other people have done on ravelry for inspiration.

Nice job! It's quite amazing seeing all you've accomplished in a year - you obviously are very gifted and bright! I love seeing what you've made and the names of the patterns and designers. I do wish you could insert the names in the podcast or someone below. The transcript doesn't pick up the names well! I.E. the hat I'd love the pattern name for comes out as "muscle burrow"!

Just FYI - you can knit a really big shawl on reasonably short cables (I make most of mine on a 32" or 40" cable). As long as there are more stitches per inch than inches on the cable you'll be fine. Where it starts to get tricky is when you try to work too few stitches on a longer cable. If you want to check how the shawl is progressing, simply put it on waste yarn or get another needle to thread through half of it (or use those knitting barber plastic cords). That's how I check that things are working as I'd like. Really long cables are more trouble than they're worth and most people I know tend to buy their fixed needles in 32". FWIW, I never use a cable that produces a needle length larger than 40" (and rarely do I use that). But the interchangeable needles come with an option to buy cable connectors in which case you can join your cables to one another, if that appeals. Also - if you're looking for a fun shawl, I have 4 faves: Pressed Flowers by Amy C, Portia Shawl by Moonstruck Knits, No 10 by Lori Versaci (stash buster extraordinaire!), Stay Soft Shawl by Veera Valimaki. Two are easy, the other 2 a bit more challenging, but all are totally well-designed, enjoyable knitting and the patterns are clear.

Hey Erin, I really enjoyed seeing everything you knit and that you tried them all on as well. Kate from this orange couch podcast did the same and was fun to watch; she only knits with acrylic or plant based fibres and is a huge garment knitter.

I loved seeing what you’ve knit in your first year! It’s so inspiring. I swear I was still knitting dish clothes and scarfs my first year. LOL. My favourite thing I’ve knit this year is the Great Love cardigan by Ankestrick. That pattern really tested my brain, but I love how it turned out, and I’m going to live in it when the weather gets cold again.

Personally I deliberately twist my stitches. It creates more give, adds durability, and lets me knit blindly in the dark.

Congratulations for your first year! Here’s to many, many more 🎉
Your shawls look absolutely stunning. Your color choices were 100% on point 😍
Also the Poetry sweater jumped at the top positions of my to-be-knit queue after seeing your beautiful in progress one.
The knitting project I’m most proud of this year so far has probably been starting a knitting podcast lol
Other than that, I’m really proud of myself for knitting a Whitmoor sweater by Ami Lowden which is a lace yoke sweater

I have been knitting since 1986 and there are four things every knitter needs to believe in every fiber of their being:
      1. There is no such thing as being such a good knitter that you don’t make mistakes. Good knitters learn how and when to fix their mistakes. There will always be things that don’t work out.
      2. The beauty of knitting is that if you don’t like something for whatever reason, you can rip it out. I have made things I didn’t wear and have made other things out of them.
      3. There is nothing that is too hard for you to knit because of rules 1 and 2. No one has any guarantees that what they want to make is going to turn out the first time so you might as well jump in and make what you want.
      4. You learn to knit by knitting. So any type of stitch or garment will be learned by making that thing.
      Good luck and enjoy!

I admire you allot for knitting so much in only 1 year and for growing so much! I'm a beginner knitter and only today researched acrylic yarn 😢😮 i cannot toss it so I will knit it but I'm starting the journey to better yarn! I just don't understand why there is no more awareness about how bad acrylic yarn is for the planet and for the body! I'm angry with myself for going with the general assumption: acrylic is cheap and ok 😢

    • @kuriaknits
      @kuriaknits  ปีที่แล้ว

Don’t be mad at yourself! There are many valid reasons to knit with acrylic and using what you have is always the best option!
