During the clapping scene for Ao no Sumika, it can also be implied that those were the people who were clapping during Riko's death, they're even all wearing white
Its the amount of spite involved in that scenario, killing yourself and todo over a relatively minor disagreement. Fortunately Gogo eventually teaches Megumi the difference between dieing to win and risking death to win. (Grey of fairytale has a similarly stupid kill self to autowin fight ability, but in the instance where Megumi decides to take out the stupid luck evil curse user i agree, he was an absolute menace that would probably have killed all the downed sourcerers)

I think everyone in JJK has it worse then Denji rn imo atleast Denji has new friends, and a chance to revive one of his old ones… Yuji’s practically powerless now, Megumi can’t do crap but watch as Sukuna goes on a rampage, and Nobara is in a schrödinger’s cat situation, which is better then being tortured

Kills me how not enough people realise that at the end of JJK 0 Suguru was written to believe Gojo had lost faith in him, then Gojo proved him wrong. And THEN the main manga keeps proving how Gojo's very much a morally gray character who didn't once thought of Suguru as a real enemy. He had 10 years, he knew exactly where Suguru was, he did nothing to stop his genocidal best friend. What's more, they never fought. Not even Gojo's favorite flick to the forehead. Gojo has been kind and considerate towards exactly one person, and that was Suguru Geto... his moral compass, the yin to his yang. Gege's writing van be weak in some parts but he becomes Shakespeare when it comes to these two. This isn't just Mappa going all out, Gege is the one who keeps writing stuff that even JP shippers have called delusional shipper behavior lmao
Someone said on Twitter (I refused to call it anything else Elon) that those two are the dynamic Dumbledore and Grindewald should have been and I can’t unsee it since - two people are the top of their secret society, one stronger enough that it shouldn’t be a problem to stop the other… but he can’t not for a copout pact like the movies did, but because of all the conflicting feelings.
I frickin read 'Morally GAY character' and I was all 'Mh, weird way to say it, but yeah, I agree now that you mention it !'. Akutami made my bain rot about those two goddsdammit. Also, I'm not a 'Gojo my one and only' lover, I'm a 'Sukuna is my master and I will hit my head on the floor when he demands you to kneel' enjoyer. Gojo isn't even close to my fav characters, Sukuna is my king and will forever take no1, Megumi is not so far 2nd (and me shipping those two isn't weird, manga told me Sukuna was indeed very attracted to Megumi's uhm... Everything. So I wasn't exactly wrong !), then Toji, then Nanami and Choso, then Geto, Yuuji, Mahito, Jogo and now Gojo. But those two belong together in a omg-they-were-roomates kind of way. And I kinda ripped my heart out, because I frickin HOPE that Megumi isn't getting the Nobara's special.
Fun fact: a recent poll has shown that this generation (gen z) kids are more likely to recognize gojo than shakespeare, which shows just how big of a deal gojo and JJk is

SPOILER WARNING 27:05 ACSHUALLY the reason Choso freaks out is well explained in the manga. He can perceive any transformation his little brothers have, and death is the ultimate transformation. Yuji died in that fight, only kept in suspended death by Sukuna's power. And Yuji is actually Choso' littlest brother, since they share a parent. His fantasy sequence of them hanging out is a rationalization of this relationship they all share. This explaination stands well on its own until we get an explaination of Yuji's new soul swapping technique XD
Wait... I didn't understand the thing about Yuji's soul swapping technique.... I know that even us manga readers can't quite explain 90% of the shit that's happening, but can you perhaps explain that? if you can =P
@@TheMindofagenius1 Chapter 222, page 10, we see a confident Yuji beating up Kusakabe, a grade 1 sorcerer, with ease, only to be revealed next page that Yuji's body talks to Kusakabe calling him "Itadori", and telling him he has to get a handle on this, referring probably to Yuji's cursed technique that apparently lets him swap bodies with others. Other than that little panel that could be completely missed during a quick read, I don't think we have any other clue of Yuji's cursed technique, except MAYBE his uncanny ability to get really really close to people he feels a connection to, possibly implanting fake memories in them subconciously. Also, reading Sukuna vs Jogo again, I noticed that Sukuna has some ability similar to this, with which he talks to people and curses he just fought with, but he says he has no idea what this ability even is (chapter 116). He talked this way to Jogo, telling him to stand proud, but he also told something similar to Kashimo when he wasn't in Yuji's body anymore, so maybe he inherited this technique by spending time inside Yuji, maybe it's something completely different, who knows. Lastly, I'm afraid he used this ability on Gojo as well, giving him the vision of all his dead friends welcoming him in the afterlife... The only vision he stayed out of, since he got to really respect Gojo during their battle. So yeah, clues scattered around, nothing certain XD
@@TheDahaka1 oh yeah that line (between Yuji and Kusakabe) confused me and my friends like nothing else! But I thought Yuji doesn't have a Cursed Technique, right? Isn't that what we were basically told in the fight between Yuji and Higuruma?
@@TheMindofagenius1 We only know that he didn't have one YET, and Kusakabe is exactly the other one that hasn't a cursed technique, so we can exclude that it's his own, since he's quite a coward that doesn't like to work that hard and wouldn't have developed one in this short amount of time, while Yuji is still growing and discovering what he can do on his own. We also can't exclude it's the technique of one of the other Death Paintings, since Yuji probably consumed them all to acquire extra strenght. There's a conversation between him and Choso where the big bro allows him to do anything he wants with them. They're probably all related to blood techniques, though, since the three brothers we've seen (Choso, Kechizu and Eso) where all blood users, and therefore I'm leaning way more on it's Yuji's own technique that he developed recently.

It has to do with the solitude of strength brings longing for love. It's a theme for the strongest in jjk character like gojo and sukuna have that theme in every hard fight they have. Geto used to be considered part of the strongest..this is why gojo and geto understand each other and because they're the strongest it also brings about love. It's not gay love it's the empathy of the strongest. An understanding.
@rushpatriot2866 well it could be romantic love, you're not gege. You don't know for sure. Plus Gojo and Sukuna's relationship in the manga is nothing compared to Geto and Gojo's relationship. So obviously it's not just about strength.

thank you for being one of the only people who actually brings up the romantic "subtext" and "undertones" in geto and gojo's relationships; its very telling how people will talk abt, for example, gojo's strengths and weaknesses and completely gloss over probably the biggest textual example (his love for geto) :) edit: ok i wanna clarify some things for the replies; 1) romance does not equal sex; they are two different things and while you can have both you can also have one without the other. when i say romantic subtext, i mean _romantic_ subtext - what that means depends on what you (and the text) deems romantic. i could go on abt the parallels between yuuta and rika / geto and gojo's true love in the movie but the point is made itself. i think people's insistence on seeing sexuality between these two characters when people claim romance comes from their misconceptions of not being able to separate the two. 2) a romantic relationship between geto and gojo isn't really _more_ meaningful than a platonic one, in the text itself. but, if we chose to look outside of jjk and at the real world implications of that (ie. an actual mainstream queer relationship in a hit shonen series) then there's an added layer of meaning to that for queer people especially. it's a little disrespectful claim that we're making everything gay, or whatever when we've never gotten something this textual and blatant -(that I've seen, at least). we're not trying to ruin male friendships (that would be nartuo and sasuke lmao)-; we're just filling in the gaps as we see fit, as a lot of the nuance of jjk is up to audience interpretation. if you see it as romantic, then great! you have a lot of evidence to support it. if you see it as platonic (i tend towards qpr myself) then great! you can derive meaning from that! if you see one and refuse to respect people who see the other, I'm afraid one group has more nefarious, ignorant (and probably homophobic) motives than the other.
I think it's fine if Gojo and Geto loved each other romantically but it bothers me a little that it seems like the only way to have a meaningful relationship is through love and romance... I mean I identify with the lyrics of the first op, to me It reminds me of my relationship with my best friend and how we changed and we are no longer best friends, also the part about "no prayer or word could ever reach you, no matter how close they could get to you" I think me and my friend really can identify with that part because of personal things in our lives. (but yeah it really seems like geto and gojo liked each other i guess, that's really a lot of simbolism in the op)
I just hate how it must be sexualized and that anyone who thinks different is wrong.... When I watched the show I really liked the opening but I didn't really see it as romantic, just more that they were each other's favorite person. While it obviously can be interpreted like that it's not the only read on the situation. Plus the english translation of the lyrics isn't really 1:1. It is a translation after all. Obviously it could be romantic or it could just be another Naruto/Sasuke type thing over again.
@@royshavrickthe lyrics use the term 恋 which can only be interpretated in a romantic way (I repeat, ONLY. As in, there's no "non-romantic" definition of it) The song is hella romantic even in Japanese context
@@kadag10for that, you've got to blame Gege for his choices of words for these two lol Like for example in 236, Geto expressed his jealousy about Gojo having fun fighting Sukuna using 妬ける instead of 羨ましい 妬ける is a synonym for 嫉妬, which is more often used to express your jealousy when your lover/crush is getting close to someone else
Why do people always get so offended when a creator mentions shipping?? I'm not the biggest fan of SuguSato personally, I've always preferred looking at their relationship from a more platonic lense, but some people really show their ass by how totally and unnecessarily angry they get at the mere thought that *maybe* there could have been romantic undertones. If you think their relationship was totally and completely platonic, that's fine! That's a completely valid viewpoint to have, but it's also valid for someone else to look at their relationship and see romance. There's no one true way to analyze a story and its characters, it's all subjective *"People aren't allowed to just be friends anymore!"* Like, my guy. People shipping two drawings together in a work of fiction does not delete the concept of friendship. Geto and Gojo aren't real people. Even if Gege came out later and said, "Yeah, they're just bros," fans continuing to ship them doesn't necessarily mean they're downplaying the concept of friendship itself.
Say it louder for the people in the back! In a story where one of the main themes is love, and how it’s either a curse or a blessing, forgive fans for interpreting the strongest relationship in the entire series as romantic I don’t mind Gojo and Geto’s relationship as either platonic or romantic, but when the series uses the word ‘love’ in a romantic manner to describe their relationship multiple times, it’s a little goofy when people deny it so much
This I can definitely agree with. I'm in the camp that I think their relationship is platonic. Not once did I interpret it as romantic. Just them being really close. Like Sasuke and Naruto or Zack and Cloud. It doesn't bother me when people want to think there's romance in there. People can believe what they want, same as me. But what I can't necessarily agree with is when people start projecting their desires as facts. But until the author confirms or denies whether they're platonic or romantic, we don't know. So when people say "no one can deny they're coded" or stuff like that, I see it as closed minded. If it turns out they ARE romantically attached to each other, that's fine. No reason to be bothered about that and it's not anyone's story to tell but Gege's anyway. But if it turns out they're not and they're completely straight, there's nothing wrong with that either. Not every relationship between two close characters of the same sex has to be gay. It's just as bad when someone says they disagree with the idea and they get attacked and accused of being homophobic or something. And something I'd might as well say too that I know might get some ire is just the amount of attention MB brought to it. The first time he voiced in the video he thought they were romantic was fine. But by the third or fourth, felt like a bit much. But like what I said earlier, not my video. Besides, more importantly, the video was still enjoyable. It was a great analysis of both OPs.
Why do people get so offended when someone doesn't like shipping? Like bro not every male character in every story has to be gay. Your weird head cannon is not fact, stop treating it like it is.
@GOJOpacklmaoo Do you perhaps lack reading comprehension? I already said I don't specifically ship them, but if someone *does* see romantic implications behind their relationship, that is valid. Manga is storytelling, and storytelling is an art form, meaning it is subjective and is up to interpretation. Acting as though people liking a ship is erasing friendship dynamics screams insecurity
Honestly, it’s a really cool for an opening analysis to acknowledge the different interpretations of Gojo and Geto’s dynamic. As you said, romantically or platonically, these two HURT no matter what! (It’s also kind of sad to think about how if SatoSugu was a straight ship, nobody would be making arguments insisting they’re ‘just friends’. Like, the lyrics in both the OP and ED name drop the word ‘love’ in a romantic manner, yet people are still in against the idea?)
Even though I see nothing more than a platonic friendship, I don't really have a problem with said ships as long as theyre not shoved into faces of other people. What I do dislike is whenever people jump to shipping two characters whether straight or not, as the only meaningful form of connection two characters can have.
@@phylocybe_yeah, I agree with you and the person above us where I’m fine with people shipping, but it’s kinda sad that people think it’s wrong to leave it to interpretation and only lovers can have a close relationship. There’s no actual confirmation I’ve seen from Gege and it’s really up to the viewer, if the ship is what you like, cool, it can leave a more unique and interesting bond for you but if not, that’s also cool, just don’t shove your opinion in the others face like it’s fact.
One little detail on Specialz is the transition from Unlimited avoid to Shibuya. The ripple effect I think is a way of saying the knowledge (possibly from Unlimited Void) of jujutsu is “rippling” out into the rest of the world and becoming known to non-sorcerers
Also after Sukina does "the thing" the OP changes to reflect the city's new geography. "Specialz" changes alot over the season, mostly dropping characters from group scenes the episode after they are dropped from the story.

@Wowjeez right? What's up to interpretation about wedding rings, talks of marriage, and "sister in law"? If this was a straight couple it would be 100% confirmed. The creative team did their best to make it obvious while dealing with this kind of bullshit from the higher ups. And Geto and Gojo deserve the same chance to be "roommates", "best friends" even. I've been missing these WIAOPs! It's what originally drew me to your channel many years ago, and then you do it for one of my favourite anime!!!! Gonna add some of my own thoughts here, with MANGA SPOILERS Some things you might have missed or left out for times sake in 'Ao no sumika' is that (1) sharing a bicycle in Japan is considered romantic, (2) that the empty classroom at the end could mirror the scene in JJK0 where Gojo is sitting right by such a sunset in a classroom reminiscing about Geto (while Geto is also staring at the same sunset probably also reminicing about him) and (3) that the text above the chalkboard in the classroom says "Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honoured one." Also the way the first OP and ED interact when it comes to the tragic end of Gojo's and Geto's relationship is just painful, the lyrics have forever changed me. In 'SPECIALZ' when Yuuji is having his mental breakdown in front of the ossuary (?) you can also see that the decorations on them look like a brain with it's two distinct hemispheres, a reference to the brain inside Getou's body -pointing to Kenjaku's involvement with Yuuji and how almost everything bad happening to the characters including the Sukuna-massacre that Yuuji is breaking down over is because of Kenjaku (considering the implications that Kenjaku birthed Yuuji, probably to be a vessel for Sukuna as a back-up plan if the sealing failed). After the shot of Gojo opening his eyes and the zoom in over Tokyo, I also read the ripple effect as showing how everything that happens in Shibuya (including Gojo's sealing) has a big ripple effect over all of Japan. I have been thinking way too much about JJK these past months... Oh god the manga...
Im not going to say gojo and geto are gay. But when i, as a man, flirt with my boyfriend, i do similar things. Ive been told from some less than trustworthy sources that 2 men dating is gay. Just food for thought of course.

First of all, when i read the lyrics to Ao no Sumika it all clicked for me. It was so obvious how coded Geto and Gojo are. I'm flabbergasted that I only ever read it as them being best friends but the song really re-contextualizes their relationship if you choose to view the song as canon to Gojo's viewpoint. I'm still unclear about Yuji's alleged curse technique. We saw it in action two times, but the first may very well just be Todo being Todo and the second one seems to actually have a very good reason to have worked this way that isn't realted to any technique but just Yuji's origin.
Yeah Jeff is clearly very up to date so I'm not sure why he was being coy with that one. It's a theory anime onlys will have but we know the truth at this point sooo
@@what.the..6990 Kusakabe one was misinterpretation. yuji cant switch with sukuna whenever, hes eseentialy stopping him from taking over but 'lets go' should sukuna also agree (just like when he doesnt against his initial encounter with mahito). Also yuji's mother had a gravity CT which he uses in his fight against Yuki, its the reason he got her body to begin with because yuji was not even a part of his grand plan.
I have a feeling I know how this anime is going to end. This is NOT a spoiler because there is nothing to indicate this will be the end and doesn't spoil any future plot elements, but given how much JJK likes to hurt us and Gege's overall writing style...it has a certain tragic anti-parallel cruel tragic beauty to it. In the first chapter, Yuji's grandpa's last words to him were "When it's time to go, make sure you're surrounded by others. Don't end up like me." This makes Yuji's goal to live a life ended by a good death, surrounded by loved ones. The tragic opposite of this is if Yuji somehow winds up immortal, but forever alone. Instead of a good death surrounded by loved ones, he'll live forever surrounded by no one. I have my guess as to how this is going to happen, but this is how I see this wonderful, painful series ending. Like Geoff said in his Shonen Power systems video (it's wonderful, go watch it), JJK is Shonen battle themed tragedy, and this ending would be the ultimate cruel irony for our little axolotl.
Dammit, and here I was just getting over the recent manga chapters. I will say I never knew that the first S2 OP song was actually composed from the POV of Gojo towards Geto. The OP and posters for the HI arc always gave me this melancholy feeling of better days gone by, regrets, and what could have been, but now with that new info and knowing the meaning of the lyrics it just hits even harder. Good stuff good stuff
another fun fact, the part of that shot of Yuji holding his head in that room. that perticular room is a specific place where they keep bodies( forgot the name im mad i cant remember it), basically indicating how all the lives lost, or will be lost, will affect him during this arc and onward
CORRECTION: Choso's vision of Yuji was NOT any Cursed Technique of his and not foreshadowed by Todo's vision. Gege Akutami clarified in an interview that it wasnt an ablity of Yuji and we later learn that the connection between the two is that Yuji and Choso were both created by Kenjaku, making Yuji technically the tenth Death Painting and the real biological brother of Choso. We also later see that Yuji is confirmed not to have a Cursed Technique since Higuruma's confiscation ability confiscates his Cursed Energy automatically instead of his CT on account of him not having one.
i mean, it WAS foreshadowed by Todo’s whole thing, thats what foreshadowing is, but it wasn’t anything deeper or more causal than that. it wasn’t foreshadowing yuji having any particular ability or anything but it was quite literally foreshadowing Choso having a parallel experience due to entirely different circumstances that were much more important than Todo’s funny egg brain. like idk even if gege directly said it wasn’t at all foreshadowing anything i’d just have to fight HIM on the definition of foreshadowing. its like a movie starting out with a kid crashing toy cars together only for it to end in an automobile accident, those aren’t related, the child has no Car Precognition Ability, but it absolutely is foreshadowing.
ao no sumika was hype, the first ending was full of feels, specialz sounds like a nightclub song but makes sense, the whole cast looks like is going to a summer festival and finally, more than words DESTROYS MY HEART.
finally getting around to watching this since the second arc is coming to an end and i've read the manga (but was fuzzy so kept away since i didnt wanna remember). Onto satosugu Gege akutami once made a list with two songs per character. One of Gojo's was Aviici- "Shame on me" a whole song about a guy who's lover is toxic and hanging out with "fucked up friends" but he still can't help but love her and wouldnt leave her because they both cant live without each other. And one of Geto's songs was was Two Door Cinema Club-"Come Back Home" A song about a guy pleading to an unnamed person to come back home as they're all alone and going down a path and that they need the strength to find another way as they're not as kind as they think they are. (Yeah it can be applied to geto but at one point their positions were switched in their youth)
30:29 There was no indication that he was gonna summon Mahoraga against Todo, we only know he was only getting serious which could have been more attack focus tactics, Max Elephant or Divine Dog: Totality. The only times he tried to summon Mahoraga were: 1)1 Finger Sukuna/Yuji (Aborted due to arrival of Gojo) 2) 3 Fingers Sukuna (Aborted because Sukuna was starting to fade away and Yuji was returning) 3) Hanami (Inumaki stopped him) 4) Finger Bearer (Decided not to here and used Chimera Shadow Garden)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!! These videos of yours always give me such HUGE inspiration, but especially this one!!!! I just listened to the song for 3 and a half hours while I drew pages of concept art and character sketches for my own short film and its OP--your statement at 13:44 of "as symbolism goes, this is just ambiguous enough to not spoil what it's pretty obviously spoiling" AS LIT MY IMAGINATION ON FIRE for the symbolism and Easter Eggs I can use for my own OP!!! I can't thank you enough!!!! I'm also going to give the anime another try and have a good feeling I'm gonna get hooked!!!!!!
Bleach cour 1 OP was amazing. Then hidden inventory OP was amazing. Both by Tatsuya. GEGE must be over the moon, to have his Series" JJK" airing alongside Bleach TYWB. The series that PAVED his way to JJK. Ita gotta be awesome
the very last shot of geto confidently looking up as his plans come into action, and gojo, covering his eyes and slumping downwards as his time to shine dims away like the light in his eyes.
I don't know another way of describing the vibe of SPECIALZ, it feels like a Chainsaw Man ED in the best ways possible. It makes it looks like the coolest horror/action anime ever. As someone who never got into JJK, it almost makes me want to pick it up
I was thinking the exact same thing! I tried 3 epsiodes and it didn't grab me from a story perspective, although the animation is PHENOMENAL. I kinda want to give it another try!
@@princessthyemis Definitely give it another go. It's one of those series what takes a moment to establish characters rather than story, so once it starts cooking, it's a full kitchen ensemble. I've watched the first season around 20 times (after the first time, it was me showing it to friends I swear lol), and I started the manga after the 5th episode had aired since I didn't want to wait. Approach it however you want! If you want to start at the movie (the prequel) and second season, that's cool too ^-^ The animation really kicks off, and the director for this season directed CSM.
@@princessthyemis I wasn't really hooked on season 1 until about episode 4. That was the one that made me realize it was not going to go the way other shonen series had. Episode 12 solidified that.
I took the hand coming forward at the end of "Where Our Blue Is" was Gojo removing the blindfold. The OP is essentially him reminiscing right before his students walk in and he uncovers an eye to look at them (at the end of the Hidden Inventory arc)
I want there to be some near slice of life like anime just focusing on Gojo's younger years and all of them just hanging out and living their student JJ High life before the whole Hidden Inventory ordeal.
This is my first real experience being one of the people who knows everything that's coming. It's been really surreal seeing everybody react to iconic moments in the JJK story for the first time in animated form. Riko being assassinated by Toji just when Geto thinks she's safe, Gojo's awakening against Toji in his rematch, and Gojo being sealed in the prison realm after realizing the friend he knew he killed is still around, except not really. There's many, many more iconic moments to come in the Shibuya arc, and in the Culling Games after it. I can't wait to see anime onlys seeing these moments we read 2+ years ago for the first time, and feeling what we did back then.
The more I think about hidden inventory, the sadder it gets, and the harder it hits me. That must mean Gege did something really masterful. Usually only really great pieces of music do that for me this long after and many times through
The entire opening, but that scene of Shoko leaning on the railing has me on my KNEES. She deserved so much better. But every literal second of this opening is art. Literal ART.
I actually saw the clapping part was a misdirection for anime fans, as if they're claps of praise and encouragement to the two strongest sorcerers, just for the meaning to be flipped over it's head after the end of episode 4, including a similar shot of the two of them that symbolizes their split. The ending gives a much sadder reflection on the good times they all had, I wish you covered it here too. They did an amazing job with symbolism in these episodes.
11:11 Personally I like to ship Gojo and Geto just because im a sucker for doomed and tragic love stories and i feel like it adds an extra layer of angst to their story. However, I dont think its right to just throw away the notion that love can be completely platonic as well. Like you can have platonic soulmates. That being said i find people who have to go out of their way to comment shit like “they’re straight” or make homophobic comments under shipping content annoying. People who act like shipping destroys the source material are just as delusional as some of the crazy diehard shippers. You dont have to consume shipping content and engage with it, you are actively choosing to let that affect your perception of the show. Same for diehard shippers who take ships way too seriously. As a lesbian, I understand LGBT+ fans who enjoy shounen and want to ship queer relationships, especially when theres so much stuff that could be read as subtext or even be seen as gay coding, but at the same time someone not shipping your ship shouldn’t ruin your enjoyment of the media you like.

for some reason, the fact that Megumi was ACTUALLY going to summon Mahoraga because Todo threathened him is so funny to me
Its the amount of spite involved in that scenario, killing yourself and todo over a relatively minor disagreement.

SPOILER WARNING
27:05 ACSHUALLY the reason Choso freaks out is well explained in the manga.
@@TheDahaka1 that's.... actually quite reasonable....!🤔 I suppose he COULD have "developed" a cursed technique *after* the fight with Higuruma, true!

Yup we all got cooked
I need therapy after this.
I actually felt real grief this week. It hasn't been this bad since my dog died. I will make it clear, it wasn't as bad as me losing my dog, but still.
JJK fans in general have had a rough week, that chapter was horrible. We all knew it had to happen eventually, but the way it did was so bafflingly awful that it killed my already dwindling opinion of Gege as a writer.
@@alenor210 My opinion of Gege as a writer has been fairly low for at least a year, but this isn't an example of bad writing. Maybe the paneling made it seem too sudden, but the actual explanation had been set up since Shibuya, when Sukuna first fought Mahoraga.
What an amazing analysis, thank you for this, I know every whats in an OP takes loads of time to make and must be a copyright nightmare, but it is my favourite series from you by a MILE, so each one brings me unending joy.

Merely the intro to this had me squealing with happiness and I don't know anything about the specifics of this anime, but I was just so delighted to hear him gushing and analyzing, especially since I'm working to design my own OP for a short film I'm working on, and his WIAOP videos always give me incredible inspiration!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍

Okay yes, also not big on shipping but... but the longing on Gojo's side does feel romantic and quite wholesome. Pain
@@a.a677 Could be but I doubt it, considering the recent chapter (no spoilers) it seems unlikely even more given gojo's attitude. Akutami also doesnt seem to like putting any hints romance whatsoever unless its there to prove a point.

@@rushpatriot2866gay love is just romantic love and feelings aside, this is obviously romantic. Change the gender of one character and it’s obvious. Don’t be dumb
The second opening is the definition of "Hype", especially in the part with the hand signs.
Whenever I watch Ao No Sumika and see the Gojo and Geto scenes, I think of the ProZD audio "oh they fucking"
That "Cuz their not gay" caught me off guard. Old but gold meme for the win. 😂
thank you for being one of the only people who actually brings up the romantic "subtext" and "undertones" in geto and gojo's relationships; its very telling how people will talk abt, for example, gojo's strengths and weaknesses and completely gloss over probably the biggest textual example (his love for geto) :)
edit: ok i wanna clarify some things for the replies;
1) romance does not equal sex; they are two different things and while you can have both you can also have one without the other. when i say romantic subtext, i mean _romantic_ subtext - what that means depends on what you (and the text) deems romantic. i could go on abt the parallels between yuuta and rika / geto and gojo's true love in the movie but the point is made itself. i think people's insistence on seeing sexuality between these two characters when people claim romance comes from their misconceptions of not being able to separate the two.
As in, there's no "non-romantic" definition of it)
The song is hella romantic even in Japanese context
@@kadag10for that, you've got to blame Gege for his choices of words for these two lol
Like for example in 236, Geto expressed his jealousy about Gojo having fun fighting Sukuna using 妬ける instead of 羨ましい
妬ける is a synonym for 嫉妬, which is more often used to express your jealousy when your lover/crush is getting close to someone else
@@Cranefeathers oh im an anime only so... but well they were gonna fight in some point obviusly but... wait what
"Could you mess things up some more?" that one line alone in the song is basically what JJK is about to be as the Shibuya arc progresses.
There's no one true way to analyze a story and its characters, it's all subjective
*"People aren't allowed to just be friends anymore!"*
Like, my guy.
In a story where one of the main themes is love, and how it’s either a curse or a blessing, forgive fans for interpreting the strongest relationship in the entire series as romantic
I don’t mind Gojo and Geto’s relationship as either platonic or romantic, but when the series uses the word ‘love’ in a romantic manner to describe their relationship multiple times, it’s a little goofy when people deny it so much
Is this for people sharing their opinion or just individuals that being a jerk about it?
To be fair the lyrics of the intro song are not written by gege so despite them being very romantic it still wouldn’t confirm anything.
Oooh cool touch
Also after Sukina does "the thing" the OP changes to reflect the city's new geography.
"Specialz" changes alot over the season, mostly dropping characters from group scenes the episode after they are dropped from the story.
"If you can find a heterosexual explanation for THAT, there is a job waiting for you at Bandai-Namco!"
This sends me! All the shade to them forever. Up to interpretation my ass!
Like look at them on that bike together without a straight thought in their heads. They are precious and deserve gay joy.

Correction, It is confirmed that Yuji does not create fake memories, Choso only got those memories as he was about to kill his actual brother, as Kenjaku is the Mother of Yuji, making Choso his half brother, with Todo, he's just Todo
I've been missing these WIAOPs! It's what originally drew me to your channel many years ago, and then you do it for one of my favourite anime!!!!
Gonna add some of my own thoughts here, with MANGA SPOILERS
Some things you might have missed or left out for times sake in 'Ao no sumika' is that (1) sharing a bicycle in Japan is considered romantic, (2) that the empty classroom at the end could mirror the scene in JJK0 where Gojo is sitting right by such a sunset in a classroom reminiscing about Geto (while Geto is also staring at the same sunset probably also reminicing about him) and (3) that the text above the chalkboard in the classroom says "Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honoured one."
Also the way the first OP and ED interact when it comes to the tragic end of Gojo's and Geto's relationship is just painful, the lyrics have forever changed me.
Great video. Always had a feeling about Gojo and Geto, but you laid it out perfectly. Really tragic. Also I loved the shoutout to WFM and Bandais shitty behaviour. I would love to see a video of yours on Witch from Mercury. I really liked the anime, especially for its character-writing.

Gege built up Gojo as the strongest to be his punching bag🥺 also Specialz has been my favorite OP I’ve heard this whole year. Looks & sounds amazing.
That's supported by Gege saying that spoiler (probably)

A morgue?
CORRECTION: Choso's vision of Yuji was NOT any Cursed Technique of his and not foreshadowed by Todo's vision. Gege Akutami clarified in an interview that it wasnt an ablity of Yuji and we later learn that the connection between the two is that Yuji and Choso were both created by Kenjaku, making Yuji technically the tenth Death Painting and the real biological brother of Choso. We also later see that Yuji is confirmed not to have a Cursed Technique since Higuruma's confiscation ability confiscates his Cursed Energy automatically instead of his CT on account of him not having one.
i mean, it WAS foreshadowed by Todo’s whole thing, thats what foreshadowing is, but it wasn’t anything deeper or more causal than that. it wasn’t foreshadowing yuji having any particular ability or anything but it was quite literally foreshadowing Choso having a parallel experience due to entirely different circumstances that were much more important than Todo’s funny egg brain. like idk even if gege directly said it wasn’t at all foreshadowing anything i’d just have to fight HIM on the definition of foreshadowing. its like a movie starting out with a kid crashing toy cars together only for it to end in an automobile accident, those aren’t related, the child has no Car Precognition Ability, but it absolutely is foreshadowing.
foreshadowing has to be deliberate

Gege akutami once made a list with two songs per character.
The only times he tried to summon Mahoraga were:

Yeah it would be nice if they had some OVA episodes for that as bonus side material.

I know I can trust Mother’s Basement to always have correct opinions about everything
But….he got a lot of things wrong
Can't wait for the third opening to have a purple vibe. Let Megumi direct it, too.
8:00 using a junji ito reference is wild since getos most powerful attack is literally uzumaki
15:01 don’t tell that Gojo smiling in the head of the dragon isn’t a reference to Dragon ball Z opening’s, with gohan over the head of Shen Long.
"gojo would never lose his virginity cuz gojo never loses" is the funniest line I have heard about this show ever
"All of them are tragic and none of them are straight." Best describtion ever 😂.
