    Philippine Airlines is not part of any alliance, but it does have a baggage agreement with most major airlines. If you show your Delta ticket at checkin with PR, they should be able to tag your bags to your final destination (Memphis in this case). You still have to clear customs with your bags at LAX, but then you can dropoff your bags at recheck and they will be transferred to Delta.
    You can buy one ticket from Philippines to Memphis but often it is more expensive.
    Lastly, you must be careful with two separate tickets. If the first airline is delayed and you miss the connection, you may face expensive rebooking charges because you are on separate tickets.

      Yup. Just some people get unlucky and have a bad experience with PAL. I only had one bad experience and it was a 2 hour delay making me miss my connecting flight. I just stayed in lax all night waiting for the first southwest flight out.

    Does that mean we get to take our luggage in LAX? If we have a connecting flight to las vegas??? Im really happy if this happen bec i live in LA.

      @RedneckNFilipina  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well for me that was the first time flying with PAL. Usually once going through immigration you check your luggage back in for your continued flights. I was surprised that I had to leave airport with my luggage and re enter the Delta terminal. I’m assuming it’s was because PAL doesn’t have an affiliation with delta?

    The biggest mistake was flying on Philippine Airlines. They definitely need to streamline their process. Doesn’t make sense to have employees checking your paperwork just to get into a line or a gate. At LAX You have to transfer from Bradley International Terminal to a domestic terminal for an international flight to a domestic flight, just like you have to do at most airports in the US where you have to do an international to domestic flight.

    Still plenty of room for improvement for both Manila airport and Philippine airlines

    I can agree on most of the comments here. Most of the employees whether PAL, Swift or Cebu Pacific, their employees are not well informed... But, we had an awesome time in the Philippines!!! I'll sub and follow your adventures!

    I fly United going to Manila since I have status with them and takes me only 10 min to ckeckin. The problem with PAL is that they are not part of any alliance, so diffuclt to get status if you travel frequently to other countries.

    Helmet headset was it? They didn't want it in your checked luggage because of the battery?
    (Edit) the LAX interior seems to have been renovated at least for the terminal where you got in - I remember it as cramped, dark, and old the last time I was there more than 10 years ago.

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I sent the headset to my wife in a Balikbayan box last year. It would not work with the helmet she bought for me. I never used it. It was boxed up original but yes it has batteries that were never activated.

    Did they weigh your carry-on bag in Manila? Phil Air has a low limit (7Kg I believe) which is pretty easy to go over.

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No just rescanned it right before boarding the plane. I’m sure the weight was over.

    I've made a few trips to the PH now, my latest was earlier this month. Every time I go I figure out a hack to better improve the whole travel experience.
    I've been to Manila/NAIA once...never again. It has been operating beyond its designed capacity for years, making it inefficient and crowded. I won't go into the ongoing issue of airport baggage handling crews stealing items from passengers luggage.....or luggage that goes missing altogether. Which takes me to my next point....
    Packing: "less is more" in my view....for a 3-week trip I take 1 carry-on size suitcase and a modest sized backpack as my personal item bag. Not having to deal with baggage check in just makes life easier.....and if you're in NAIA, keeping control of your stuff denies some staff the chance to treat themselves to something of yours.
    Lastly, I don't think I will ever try Philippines Airlines as an option.....there's just too many bad reviews/experiences documented. Definitely stick to carriers that belong to an alliance, makes dealing with connecting flights with different carriers a lot easier and more cost effective.

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your insight. I have learned a lot in the past two years. I will stick to Korean Airlines unless someone convince me otherwise. I did use Cathay Pacific once because they flew me to Cebu. I much rather fly to Cebu over Manila. Like you have had bad experience with NAIA.

      I have been to the Philippines six times this year from the US and never had an issue when flying on United. I wait no more than 10 min checking in. I don't ever check-in my luggage so think that's a big factor.

    Yes, that can be a looooong walk at LAX out to some of those international gates (or to customs upon entry).
    And then more walking (or shuttle bus) to get to other terminals if you are connecting to a domestic flight.
    About the bags... so nice to be able to check in at DVO and not have to deal with the lines at MNL !
    would be nice to have bags checked all the way through like you did with Delta/ Korean.
    Philippines Airlines entered into codeshare arrangement with AA a few months ago that works for several US cities to MNL, but don't think you can book a single itinerary to get from one of the US cities all the way to davao (so you have to self transfer).

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know it would be nice. I love the straight flight to LAX. Bypassing Inchean or Hong Kong or Japan. Saves so much time with a straight through flight. I’ll stick with Korean air at least until wife and kids get here. Minnesota. Was a great place to use customs. Fairly easy and a short walk to the domestic flight to Memphis. It’s a shorter trip than the 16 hour flight from Inchean to Atlanta. Atlanta customs is also pain free and checking luggage after was simple. The underground railway is nice for transportation to other terminals

    • @RealGaryGibson
      @RealGaryGibson 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you fly Korean Air or Asiana Air, it's a much shorter walk to customs at LAX. Philippine Air is at the West Gates extension which is very far.

  • @giftbyliz8702
    @giftbyliz8702 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think that’s how it works when you are on connecting flights upon coming back from PI for example you have to get your luggage and check it in the counter of the airline you are flying with. I forgot to do that last time I came back from PI 😂luckily when I arrived in ICT my luggage was waiting for me at the airport carousel

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well this was the first time flying with Philippine Airlines. I loved the fact I could check my luggage in Davao and skip that long 2 to 3 hours line checking in in Manila. I usually fly Korean Airlines. I have to book a separate flight from Davao not included in my over all flight from Manila to Memphis which requires a stop in Inchean then either Minnesota or Atlanta then to Memphis. But when checking in at Manila you get all tickets at once. When you arrive in the first USA city as always you collect baggage,go through immigration then check luggage back in. I have never had to leave out the front of the airport and come back in off the street and check in again with Delta. That was a first for me.

  • @jsm2687
    @jsm2687 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    We did what you did lol. No connecting flight so we had to take our 6 big luggage and walk all the way to domestic to get to our flight to DC. That's why flying PAL only make sense if you live in one of the hubs they stop at like LAX, SFO, JFK, and i think Seattle.

    • @RedneckNFilipina
      @RedneckNFilipina  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly true. The only good thing about Philippine Airline is the straight flight to USA. No stop overs. Which always leads to layovers

      The staff on board were nice. The food was good but the best thing was the straight though to west coast without any stop overs which always means layover time.
