MFJJ puts James from Bow Disciples through a vigorous test to see if he can guess flagship compound bow and arrows while being blindfolded and wearing a snowboarding glove. James shoots a Hoyt RX8, Mathews Lift 33, Darton Sequel 33, Bowtech Carbon One X, Elite Kairos, PSE, and Bear compound bows in the test at the Spokane Valley Archery Store in Washington.

It really goes to show that people have bias due to what they think it should feel like, and it also shows that all the bows are pretty close and you shouldn’t pick a bow based on draw cycle alone because you’ll get use to it

A new bowhunter here with the Darton Consequence as my first bow that I’ve been shooting for a few months now.
I’ve handled the Sequel as well at the local shop and grantedly the balance is significantly better, but the draw cycle in my beginner mind didn’t differ as such, since they do share the same cams. Didn’t shoot it though so I can’t tell how much better the flagship is in that regard.
Still nice to see that as the Sequel did rank rather high, that means that my midrange bow is actually rather damn good for its price.
An interesting variation of this would be a blind comparison with perhaps fewer bowyers, but taking also entry level and midrange bows to the mix from each manufacturer. I suspect it would have some brutal results (looking at Bear here).

The type of video the entire archery world needs to see . When people are so set in there ways of i shoot " THIS " brand and its the " BEST" thinking. they are influencing and have made up there minds before they shoot the bows. its perfectly fine to be set on a bow and buy it but if you want to find the one you like best its not always what you think. Mad props for this video with MFJJ , this video hits different. id like to see more of this type of content , real data for real shooters. i wonder if you could do this with bow accessories , releases ? , Stabs ? , clean some arrows and shoot them for a bit and see what you actually like ? maybe force yourself to try different arrow weights without knowing the weight? . If there was a way that MFJJ could incorporate James into his bow reviews whenever the new ones all come out, I think it would be the best review by far. It already is probably the best review that you can find, but then if you put James's personal opinions and everything else in it would just be hands down the best. No doubt

Great video and brings a whole different way to test bows. May want to check the Bear to make certain the cams are set correctly. Seems to be a big problem when with bow shops not putting in the correct setting.

Bear is not set right,65lbs & 90% should feel like it's cam rolled over to far and you feel as to push off to let it down. Can't help the different cycle ...it's still only 65lbs you are pulling..yep back wall isn't a solid as an elite

Have to agree, this is the only video I've seen where people really dislike the draw on the Persist.
My Persist is just under 65lb, 85%, 29" DL, I'm 52yr old with bad back & neck etc, also alot smaller than these big blokes & I don't have anywhere near the problems drawing it back compared to this video, (& the one without the glove), also, change the grip to the narrow grip it comes with, it feels better.

Honestly I know this would be a pain for a regular shop to go through every day. But there is really so much bias when choosing a bow. I’d say majority of people coming in already have 3-4 brands there not even considering but I bet this test would surprise them. Kinda thinking more shops should go this route lol.

Great update to the testing by further blinding yourself to any clues. Looks like they all draw roughly the same, probably best to pick a bow based on accessories/features and what looks cool, honestly.

This is a great video! It would be super cool if SVA offered a version of this to customers in the shop. I would make an appointment, pay a fee and drive to Spokane to buy a new bow if I could shoot a series of bows blind before I made a purchase.

It just shows that people can be very biased when doing comparisons. Which is why I don't care what someone else thinks of a particular bow. I have to shoot it for myself.

I have talked about doing this with my buddy for years when go shoot bows. Just hand me the bow and don't tell me what it is. A glove is the answer. This is a great video.

It's actually not that bad, guessing the bow in he video isn't set up correctly, I'm over 50, smaller than these blokes, have injuries & don't have anywhere near the issues they have drawing it back.
Mine is just under 65lb, 85% & 29" DL.
If I had of seen this video before I purchased my Persist (online) then I would have gone a different way, glad I didn't, the bow is good to shoot.

Great test & info. I couldn’t see all the data on the board at the end and then the data was quickly discussed. So hard to tell how each bow really ranked out. It would be helpful to have a data table pop up on the screen that could be paused for review. Thanks again for the test!
