  • In this video I treat the rear crossmember of my Land Rover Defender 110 Td5 to a nice new coat of paint. A lot of grinding was required before painting. Watch this to see each step it takes to make a terribly looking crossmember perfect again!

    Such a massive difference. Really great job and looks like new. And a great way to take your mind off the rust all over the rest of the chassis!

    I think this is a nice guide to how to do this with the crossmember in situ. Looking forward to following this when the weather is better here. Thanks for sharing!

      I said i would tackle it 2 years ago, but i lied to myself. Meanwhile, my crossmember developed a nasty rot on the bottom, so besides a thorough paint job, now i also have to do welding. Point is: never postpone maintenance on an old Defender. How is your paint job holdin’ up in your weather 2 years in?

    Incredible job! Also shows that we need to look at other tell tale signs of bad rust other than just an obviously cancerous rear cross member 😅

    Great video!! Very useful, can you please tell us what product did you use, or the specific composition of it? Specially for the orange primer it seems to work really really good!!

      I used a red rust protective primer, no particular brand so I can't tell you the specific composition unfortunately.. It is a sort of filler primer. Works really well as you saw!

    Hi, amazing job. I need to do the same to mine (although it’s a galv frame) - what specific primer and black paint can did you use? My Dad commutes to Stockholm so can get hold of Swedish products! Cheers.

      Oh nice with some galv👌🏻
      I used Biltema products, their part numbers are: Art. 36-7419 (red primer) and Art. 36-7420 (black top coat). You can probably get cheaper stuff in any country outside Scandinavia though😅

    • @Td5Adventures
      @Td5Adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, hope it helped! The paint I used is sold as matt black. You can put a clear coat on it as well for extra shine if that's a preference!

    • @Cristo_Mario

      @@Td5Adventures Thank you for your feedback, I like matt but a painting company that does body work for LR told me they use satin as matt goes chalky after a while... I need to do my rear and also the front bumper. :)

    • @Td5Adventures

      @@Cristo_Mario That sounds reasonable, I'd go with satin if they recommend it. Will probably be easier to wash as well 👌🏼
