There are lots of brands to look at: Original Special Operations Equipment, Eagle Industries, London Bridge Trading Company, and Safariland. The SOE Micro Rig is the simplest option. The Tactical Assault Panel is a great option for carrying a ton of ammo.
The Chicom Type 63 chest rig is my personal favorite chicom for AR15 magazines, especially 20 round mags. Chicom chest rigs should be modified if they are gonna be for serious use and again this is not the best option.

Dude, that SKS rig you modified was legit. Well done
Douglas Henze thanks brother! I may do more and put them for sale on my website. -Andrew
@@CombatArtTraining i need two if they are well priced.
After I get an actual serving machine, I’m doing all sewing by hand right now.
Interested in one as well. No mold on mine please!!!
@@Nick-fm9ux what price for one of these is fair to you? I'm checking to see if it'd be worth it.
Just bought a chi com rig for my Ak because I think it looks cool AF
They are the most OG
It's amazing how people have been modding these for decades. Bobby Pruett had a really nice modded SKS Chicom rig in Vietnam, if you haven't seen it before.
I think I know that one.
On the chicom chest rig, just put a kydex insert and you don't need the flap anymore. You can also reload and re-index your mag easily :)
Dead honest the Condor gear I have is in every way up to par with the 5.11 and different surplus gear I run. If it's all you can afford go for it.
That sks chest rig is mega mate, I'm doing exactly same to my one
Nice bro, post a video when you finish it
Ahhh The Sicario G Shock as worn by Benicio Del Toro. Very cool.
You could put milsurp AR 20 rounder's in the peripheral pouches..
I actually do that, I have it set up for my SPR the 20 rounders are nice in the prone with a bipod
Definitely dig the mods on the chi-com rigs.
Glad you like it bro, maybe we will make them too
Please make a video showing you modify a Chicom chest rig I will sub for that.
I'm gonna be doing a modified AK chicom rig soon! And I may put them up for sale too.
Combat Art Training thank you
That SKS Type 63 conversion is slick!! Maybe a tactical Taylor video on how you made it!!
I'm probably gonna put some up for sale
That H harness on your Chicom is quite interesting. Looking forward your DIY video tutorial !
I just got material in to do a Chicom ak rig. Join me on Facebook live to see how I'm gonna do it.
@@CombatArtTraining did you ever do a video on the ak rig I couldn’t find it
@@jalenking4117 no I stopped that project but I may do it again. We are about to put out our own EDC Backpack and a version 2 of our EDC Fanny Pack, then do our own chest rig.
@@CombatArtTraining Hey man, would you be willing to a custom build similar to the type 63 for $100?
@@D29-k4t out of cordura? Message me on Instagram please.
I have an ARMIJA Bosnian chest rig from the 90s that clips in the front, with a canvas belt around back. Holds 4 AK or AR mags and 4 grenade pouches. I put a butt pouch on the back and an IFAK. It’s a great chest rig, if you find one, buy it.
Sick! Send pics to either our Facebook or Instagram and I'll repost them. I love modified surplus gear!
Could you show us how to do that H harness? That thing looked like a 200 dollar rig at first glance.
Yes I'm gonna be doing an ak rig soon
You can also just dye the ACU as well a few vids floating around of that process
I tried but it did not work well.
@@CombatArtTraining worth a shot. The paint honestly looks good to me
@@Zawfee Yes sir
I absolutely love the 7 pocket sks chestrig and how you modified it! If possible I’d like to discuss buying a carbon copy of it if you built it for me!
SEMPER FI brother!
Thanks bro! It'd be about $100 it takes a lot of time. Within the next couple years I probably will put out chest rigs for sale, after I get a sewing machine
Combat Art Training
Would happily pay that for one if you’re willing to build a full copy!
How do I contact you off of here???
Followed your advice. Got taps acu on ebay. 26$ shipped! Thanks for the advice!!
Glad you like it!
@@CombatArtTraining really did! Can you show us the paint part next?! Greatly appreciate you, sir!
@@beludo06 just stay paint it the way I did my AK
Thanks for the tip. I just ordered the USGI ACU chest rig. It turned out to be cheaper than the Chinese Type 63 SKS chest rig.
Dude noticed the Southside Bully t-shirt. When was the last time you went to Southside Athletic? I train there in MN.
2017 probably. I've been in Florida for a while now. That's the best gym I've ever seen and those guys are awesome.
Woodland really is the greatest ever
Thanks for the info! Is there a specific spray paint you use so it doesn't feel tacky?
Wow what does the mold you referred to on the chicom rig look like? I have two type 63s and one of them has some white patches on the front working around to the back. Concerning...
It's the white patches. You should be able to smell it too.
I sprayed mine with Clorox branded fabric deodorizer it kills mold in 5 minutes. Then left it out in the sun for 2 days.
Thanks for your service.. Live Free or Die, I will not comply.
Thank you Sir! That's the only way to live.
Can I order one of the type 63 SKS modified chest rigs from you? That is literally perfect for my applications
Maybe I'll do some. Keep commenting on the videos and reminding me. I'm gonna order rigs now.
Heck yeah man!!
I’ll order 2
@@coltondavis5731 perfect cause I ordered two haha
@@CombatArtTraining DIBS hahaha
Big Kudos on the ChiCom rig! Do you use a regular sewing machine? I’d be very interested in a DIY video.
Been doing it by hand. Check out the live streams on Facebook and you'll see me making one
Where are you buying your military surplus
eBay
Ever used a taps with ak mags?
Yeah but I don't like them
+Combat Art Training Hey, man. Cool and well done video. I like and subscribe. I have a couple of questions for you, mostly regarding the TAP. I run AKMs and some .308 military rifles ( I'm just not a 5.56 guy, to each their own ) and have some nice, Russian gear designed and built around the AK, the Vest Alpha made by ANA for the Russian military for 1 AKM and the Spetsnaz Tactical Vest for the other. Now that I'm getting another, I found some really sweet deals on TAP rigs and they're much cheaper than buying another Russian rig and paying shipping from Russia, as nice as those rigs are. If I snip the top flaps/covers on the built in mag pouches and run shock cord with tabs like you did on the SKS rig, will I be able to fit 30 round AK mags in the mag pouches and run them open top? Since it's mostly the height and curvature of the AK 30s which makes them not fit M-16 mag pouches ( they are pretty much the same length across the broad sides and both mags are about an inch thick ) and I would be running these open top with cords and tabs, I don't see why it wouldn't fit them ( I've seen videos where people have made Condor chest rigs with open top mag pouches designed around the AR-15, and they showed that AK 30s will fit in there fine, using shock cord and tabs on the open top pouches ).
The bigger pouches on each end of the TAP ( the ones that are supposed to be for radios ) look big enough to carry 2 AK 30s each, in the various pictures it shows on the vendor's website. I could then add some extra mag pouches, along with meds bags and trauma kit, on the MOLLE field in front of the sewn on pouches. In your opinion ( since I haven't handled a TAP yet ), could the TAP be made to work in this way? I have a RACK Vest set up for .308 military rifles, and I could get another and set it up for AK, since they can be had for $25-36, but I was hoping to save some money on mag pouches at first, using the built in mag pouches on the TAP at first and buying the extra pouches a couple of months later.
Honestly bro it seems like it will be too much work for it to be worth it. I never like my AK mags in 5.56 pouches except one. I would try out the SOE Micro rig for something that works with AK and AR and they have a 308 micro too. I'm gonna come out with an AK and AR rig within the next few months as well so check that out. Also for AK look at a simple chicom rig. The only AR mag pouches that I've found to work well for AK is the Eagle Industries double mag pouches, the coyote ones that the Marines use
If I send you my chicoms can you modify them like that?
I appreciate it but the amount I would charge would not be worth it for you. We will be putting out chest rigs soon. I'm about to release a fanny pack and then I'm gonna start work on chest rigs.
@@CombatArtTraining Makes sense.
@@austinnevitt7922 if I were to make some though, what model chicom would you want?
@@CombatArtTraining the AKs are cool. They work with 40 round Pmags. As well but the top flap wont close. Having that elastic band around and somehow getting the top flap to close with something new would be rad.
The SKS rig cells are always good for 30 round STANAG mags with that band and top tabs would be rad.
A good gear brand is BlackHawk gear
@@BaconSlayer69 what training classes have you taken?
@@CombatArtTraining is it not good gear? Why are you so arrogant??
@@BaconSlayer69 none.
@@CombatArtTraining you know Blackhawk Gear is not airsoft gear right? It’s legit gear guys in combat zones use
@@BaconSlayer69 wait what classes?
Omg please tell me you are selling your modded chest rigs! I'll litterally buy 4 each of the last two chest rigs you showed modded.
Stay tuned, I've started ordering them. I have a lot going on but they are on my list and they will be out.
