DIY Mobile Workbench Part 2 | All In One Woodworking | Dust Collection & Milwaukee Packout Storage

- This is the second video in a series where I am attempting to build what I am calling the ultimate mobile workbench & woodworking station. I work on projects in our small two car garage that we like to store our cars. So I am attempting to create a workbench that functions as the all in one workbench that is compact, provides storage for all of my woodworking tools, and allows me to use these tools with minimal setup.
In this video I add dust collection, storage and some other accessories that allow me to start fully using the workbench. For dust collection, I have decided to use a single stage dust collector that I purchased from harbor freight. I installed this in the workbench and connected to the machines in a similar method as someone may use in a small woodworking shop. Blast gates are use to control the flow of air so that the system can maintain strong suction while the machine being use. All of this is controlled by an automatic dust collection switch that is so far making it very convenient.
The Milwaukee Packout tool boxes are also adding a ton of storage. They are installed in the workbench using custom made drawer slides that allow them to stay secure and save space.

From a guy that has invested in Packout boxes I can tell you from personal experience they are sturdy, and well worth the money. You wont regret the money spent. Mine are loaded and unloaded out of pickup a lot. Been dropped, been wet, blazing sun, freezing temps. They just work. There are tons of 3D goodies to add for all kinds of custom applications. Really diggin on your design.

That storage is badass. There is no perfect. Because as soon as you build the perfect they come up with something new and now that is the perfect. It's whatever works for you for whatever you do at the time you're doing it.

I love those cases integrated with the shelf/drawers. Just because of needing the holes to pop the cases into allowing the handles of the cases to be the drawer handles. AWESOME!

You've given me quite a few ideas. I'm making 3 mobile 4 foot benches, that I can take outside the shop to use. I'm possibly going to make a work bench, fo4 my table saw, that I can use also as a work bench, when th3 blade is lowered.

This bench is really coming along! Looking forward to seeing how you can manage to squeeze a few more pocket screws into it. As for things to add (other that for mentioned screws) a router mounted into the bench can be very handy.

I like it! Only thing I would add is a flip up out feed wing for the table saw. But looks and functions awesome. The possibilities when building one of these is crazy endless and the hardest part is picking a design and going with it.😂 thanks for the tag along it was enjoyable 💯👍🏼

I like the orientation of the table saw. One thing that might make it even more usable is a fold-out outfeed support on the back. Bonus points if you can make it fold out upwards for the table saw or downwards for the planer 🤓🤓
Well . . . This is in the nick of time to bring a complete rethink of the mobile table saw bench of similar size that I was literally within hours of starting to build, but with its axis at 90 degrees to this one. Very interesting and practical concept for the small workshop that obviates a separate mobile bench for the miter saw. In my situation, however, a separate mobile stand for the planer and its dedicated dust collection system, with its outfeed table set at level to this benchtop seems a desirable variation. Two mobile benches rather than three represents a big improvement in a tight work space. Very useful video! Thanks, Ryan.

Great build, I pretty much did the exact same thing for myself. I did add an outfeed table and I cut the angle off of the tablesaw dust collection so it pulls the hose all the way underneath the tablesaw.

Those pack out box notches are perfect. That is great to keep the tray and the shelf together when you pull the box. WIthout the notches you would have needed a drawer front or something to hold the boxes to the drawer bottoms.

Really nice bench, I will definitely be building mine from this design! You could also add a flip-up outfeed surface for your table saw on the back, as well as a flip-up extension support on the left side (beside where your router table will be).

I love this! The only thing I would have done differently was make the miter saw and planer modular, so they could be swapped out or removed completely to accommodate larger boards on the other tools . Also, it would be great to use that middle section as a router table. Now you can hit all three in one fell swoop. I love what you've done here and Im definitely going to incorporate much of what you've done here!
Or put the router table on the left wing of the table saw?
Ive had the DeWALT tough system and now I have the Packout system. Packout is definitely the superior system in my opinion when it comes to tool storage, mobility, and durability. Love the design and incorporation into the bench.
I'd love to see this setup in action. I also work in a fairly small space, fortunately I don't share it with my car...I've done quite a few things to make it efficient, and I'm pretty fully tooled to the gills, but it's fun to see what other people are doing. I think your setup here is pretty awesome. Especially if you don't use it a ton. Anyway, keep going. :)

One solution in removing the 2x4 that supports your table saw, could be making or buying a heavy duty right angle bracket in which the table saw leg rests on, this would free the space needed for your dust collection hose. I hope my explanation makes sense.
Excellent multi-functional woodworking tool bench, you did a great job. The only thing I would change is the location of the thickness planer, somewhere higher for us older guys.
I just wanted to let you know that this is brilliant. i have been working on plans that include a slide out for the exact same planer so it's nice to see that it's not as far fetched as everyone seems to think hahah great work and explanation at the end. earned a sub outta me. can't wait to see the next upgrades.
This looks like a near perfect solution for my shop which is half of a 1 car garage. I think between the table saw and packouts would be a great spot for a router lift and under the ledge to the right of the miter saw I would put a folding support with more t-track and stop block that gives more options for cutting down material to either side of the saw.
I was really surprised how much cutting power (and torque) this saw had out of the box. I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend.This is a Great saw th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.
Milwaukee has been very aggressive and it shows in the quality and useful tools.
I have traveled the Nunivik with a packout storage system and after a year and 20 + plane trips, the packout is still in perfect condition.
One thing that you can do for dust barrel is to put it on it's own drawer. So when you have the lid on, it stays there. When you take the lid off, you can just slide it out and have easier access to the barrel itself. Then just push it back in when you are ready to put it back.
EXCELLENT job. It is obvious that a lot of planning went into this build and your presentation is clear and concise.
The only suggestion I have is to try to replace as much as that flexible hose as possible. Use galvanized smoke pipe instead. That felx stuff “rifles” air flow and you lose a lot of velocity.
Fantastic project, I’ll be stealing a few of the ideas on a build for my fathers workshop. Only downside I see I are the roller slide drawer runners,
From personal experience in kitchen fitting, nothing destroys these quicker than sawdust and wood chips..

Beautiful work! I may have to make something similar. The only thing I would add would be a router.
Nice build. Only suggested change I'd make is while you have the router out to make the t-track grove, you could have set another shallow grove (1/16"-1/8") for the tape measure to sit in. That way, nothing catches on it.
BTW... I also have that Delta (T4) fence on my Craftsman table saw (vintage 1969) as an upgrade. Love it. I offset it a bit further so that I can rip up to 36" on the right side.
Great build. My TS and miter saw are each on their own dedicated spaces, but I was thinking about putting a 1HP dust collector and "cyclone" can like what you have inside the workbench I'm going to build. (I just don't have room for it to be freestanding.) Glad to hear you are happy with it in your bench--serious confidence booster for me! 👍👍

I use Festool / Tanos Systainers. I just like how mobile I can be with them, plus they’re very clean and tidy. Works well with the Festool vac as well.

Dude, nice workbench and great videos detailing it's creation. I like everything you did, if I had to add my 2 cents I would point out that you could totally put a piece of pegboard on that empty section below the miter saw. Or some other type of extra face mounted storage to allow extra easy access storage for commonly used items. Just a thought, thanks again for the videos.

My MS closed my business and now I'm getting started woodworking to try and fill my time and side hustle. Just started 3d printer up as well. Really smart build. Can't wait to see the next steps. One of my favorite things about the pack out system is all the customization possible. I 3D printed tabs, so I can actually lock it to my slides. I also have a custom top with 3D printed parts so I can put it on top of my stack. There are custom trays and dividers you can make too.
That's a great idea man, its really is cool all the factory customization Milwaukee has built into them and then people have done even crazier stuff that has to make this the best storage system out there.
