- Hey Woodworking Enthusiasts! 👋 Welcome to VanIsle Studio! In this video, I'm embarking on a woodworking journey, to enhance my table saw workbench. This time, I'm integrating a flip top miter saw station.
🛠️ Project Overview: I'll guide you through the step-by-step process of dismantling my current workbench, housing the Dewalt 7491RS Table Saw, and modifying it to accommodate both the table saw and the miter saw (Festool Kapex KS 120 REB Sliding Compound Miter Saw). The rotating miter saw shelf design allows you to optimize space and functionality in your workshop.
📜 Woodworking Plans: Just like before, detailed plans for this workbench are available on my Etsy shop. These comprehensive plans, totaling 98 pages, provide a thorough guide for crafting this dual-tool workbench, ensuring your woodworking projects reach new heights. Here is the link if you are interested:
IMPERIAL & METRIC WOODWORKING PLAN - vanislestudiostore.etsy.com
There are two versions of the Imperial plan.
One version of the plan that utilizes regular 2X4's (3 1/2 inches X 1 1/2 inches) that are easily purchased at stores like home depot.
And another version of the plan that utilizes rough cut dimensional lumber, that was planned to a final thickness of 3 5/8 inch X 1 13/16 inch.
👀 What's Next? Whether you're a seasoned woodworker or just starting, this video is packed with tips, tricks, and the satisfaction of creating a versatile and efficient work environment, and just some plain old fun messing around in the shop with a camera and some tools :)

He definitely raised the bar for video editing and camera work. Well done. Now...to find some toy robots!
He said his name is Paul.
This is an “I was here” comment for posterity, when this guy had less than 9,000 subscribers. I’m guessing that number is about to rise exponentially.
Thank you for your encouraging words my friend, that made me smile and means a lot to me. All the Best!
So you’re a cinematographer and craftsmen. Got it, well you’ll have 1m subs soon. This video is amazing!
Ha, not sure about either or those, as there are far better out there than me, but I really appreciate your comment and your encouraging words, thank you so much for that!

In addition to your excellent craftsmanship and brilliant design, I really appreciate your cinematography. Well done!
Thanks Kevin, it's nice to hear you enjoy the cinematography and thank you! I'm looking forward to learning and sharing more with you.
Using a spiral downcut or compression bit would probably also help a lot with preventing the tearout, since it applies cutting pressure at an angle across the grain instead of flat into the ends of the fibers.
Immediate subscription! Good job on the thumbnail too. If it hadn’t been for that I probably wouldn’t have clicked, and would have missed out big time.
Hey Trev! I appreciate you commenting on the thumbnail. Even more so that you clicked on it! I though why not take a chance and try something I've not tried yet and... here we are chatting away now. Thanks so much for stopping in and for your support! Cheers Paul
Your video, sound design, and storyline are really great in this. I'd Be very proud of this work! I was thoroughly entertained. :)
Hey thank you for such encouragement! It is greatly appreciated and happy to hear you were entertained!
Wow, why haven't you come up on my feed before. Probably the best 25 minutes I've spent in quite a while. Not sure what impressed me more your woodworking skills or video editing ones. Earned a like and a sub.
Also very heart-warming watching you work with your dad.
Cherish those moments with your mum and dad, make as many memories as you, because once there gone their gone, sadly I know from experience.
A big hello from Spain.
Hi Frank, you made it to the end of my video! Thank you so much for my smile that I'm wearing now :) That means a lot to me. I greatly appreciate your comments, especially about our mom's and dad's and your experience. I get to see them again in 4 days time and really looking forward to it. Thanks for the like and the sub my friend, all the way from Beautiful Spain! Cheers from a sunny and bit of a rainy morning here on Vancouver Island. Paul
Been watching different woodworking channels for a while now and I have some favorites, and I still love them as well. I have to say though, this is the first video of yours I have seen and the editing is off the charts. Great video and I hope to see more, I am now SUBSCRIBED!

Never thought house and trance work so well with woodworking. Who knew?
Ha, I enjoy all kinds of music these days but thought to give them a try, I'm glad you enjoyed it mate! All the best to you!
Very glad the algorithm pointed me to your channel - you give off younger Frank Horvath vibes, and your video production is superb! Cheers mate!
I'm pretty happy it found you too brother! I just checked out Franks site and immediately subscribed. Nice David Clarks BTW :) All the best to you! and thanks so much again! Paul
how AWESOME is that to build a dream together with your dad
Beautifully put Jimmy! Every moment together is so precious. Thanks for this and I really appreciate your thought.
I must say, impressive work. The video, the woodwork, the music... really great stuff and high quality. And thank you very much, loved it.
Hey Andrew it's my pleasure and thank you so much! Looking forward to sharing more in the future with you, Cheers!
Came here because Lincoln Street sent me. The video quality here is insane for such a small channel. Instant sub! We will watch your career with great interest!
Hey Alex, that was incredible of Jon from Lincoln St and thanks so much for stopping in and for the sub! I'm looking forward to sharing more with you. All the best to you!
You deserve more subs.
Ha I appreciate the encouragement my friend! Thanks for that :)
That was amazingly well edited, filmed and all around created. The build itself is so cool and like I said the video itself was a work of art IMO. I don't see how you only have 11k subscribers. Ill add one more now :)
Hey ShortysCreativeCorner I like your name! Thank you so much for your encouragement! It means a lot to me and I really appreciate your sub :) All the best to you and I'm looking forward to creating more for you, Cheers Paul
You should make yourself a planer sled. This would allow you to use the planer as a jointer.
Hey thanks for the suggestion! Now I just need the time to build one for the shop :) I could use it! Thanks so much for stopping in! Cheers
This is one of the best combination/integrated workbenches I've seen. A very no-nonsense bench at decent size for smaller workshops. Hats off, sir!
Hi Joseph, I really appreciate your comment, thank you so much for that!
The only thing I don’t like about this video is that it wasn’t around when I built a similar work bench. This thing is amazing and now I must tear mine apart to rebuild it.
Me too
I don't know how, but reading this made me sigh and smile at the same time some how! I kind of know the feeling, because I originally built what I thought was my forever workbench, then months down the road, I found myself rebuilding it lol. I wish you all the best my friend and thank you for kind comment!
This edit is amazing. Awesome work.
Hey Kosh, Thank you and it means a lot that you think so! Cool videos you have BTW! Love your camera work, lighting and music! All the best!
This channel needs to grow! Great video, great editing, and amazing woodworking.
I greatly appreciate your encouraging comment John! Thank you!
In the "middle" of the Workbench build (the plans are truly amazing)... but I'm modifying it heavily to incorporate a planer and jointer and two sections of the table top will be removable (the jointer and planer are on jacks... jointer is on a motorcycle lift and planer is on scissor jack)... the length I'm extending to 11'4" and to compensate for the added weight I'm using 2x6 instead of 2x4 but your plans are pretty darn easy to modify because they are so freaking good to begin with. I say all that so that if someone actually reads this they will know that they should not hesitated for an instant to purchase your plans. THANK YOU!!! for the tremendous amount of work you did on them.
Hey Mike I really enjoy reading about the details and modifications you are making. Some amazing ideas you have there and that is going to be one heck of workbench!! I greatly appreciate the time you took to leave your comment and that you found my plans easy to understand and follow. Makes me feel great bud! All the best to you and a big THANK YOU Again for your time and reply here, Cheers! Paul
Apart from making me insanely envious, as to the skill shown both in design and display of craftmanship and of workshop and all its contents tool wise and space. I was immensely entertained. We lesser mortals can but look on in admiration, and continue to dream. Take care and be happy brother. Greetings from the UK.
Hello Norman from the UK :) A BIG Thank you for your kind comment and I'm thrilled you were entertained by my video. Thanks for the inspiration to keep dreaming all the way from Vancouver Canada :)
I gotta learn that snap trick at 11:05. In all my years of projects I haven't been able to do that one. Crazy how fast it makes things come together. I don't understand why people you didn't use that trick every time.
Ha, yes sir, that one is a real time saver for sure :) Now to make it work for clean up as well! thanks for that my brother and all the best to you!
This video has better production and storytelling than some movies I’ve seen recently. Absolutely amazing work man!
Hey Derek I really appreciate your feedback. It's comments like yours that help to keep at it, all the best to you!
First Time i found your Video! ....Never enjoyed a buildingvideo more like this! Great job 👍
Hey Thank you so much Fritz and I'm very grateful that my video found you :) Cheers
Ah that wood you are using! We had lumber like that in Oregon once....... I like the bench, I may give it a try when I get a place to put it!
Hey my neighbour to the south Ken :) Oregon is so beautiful! Glad you enjoyed the bench mate and all the best to you!
Amazing work, epic editing, skills you’ve got there mate.
Hi Patrick from New Zealand! Thank you so much for that! I greatly appreciate you stopping in! Cheers from a sunny Vancouver morning
What a gem of YT video! Editing, music, story telling - beautiful! And - piece of work itself - also great. Keep going, thanks for enjoyable video!
A Gem! Ha :) Thank you so much for your comment Evan! That made me smile this morning and I appreciate your encouragement to keep at it! All the best to you!
Just have to say how well done your video is!
I'm thrilled you enjoyed it Ed! All the best to you!
I have a 50 year old school pencil sharpener in my shop. I did not think a cooler shop pencil sharpener existed. Just one more thing to make me feel inferior. Thanks buddy😂
I'd still think your 50 year old school pencil sharpener is pretty cool in my books! and your comment made me laugh :) Thanks so much for that and for stopping in, and BTW that pencil sharpener came from my wife's side of the family, from Japan, when they moved here many years ago. Cheers mate! All the best!
Absolutely AWESOME videography. It's obvious you do this for a living. Or you should. Loved the video.
Maybe one day I'll be able to do it for a living, but I really do appreciate your encouragement Alan! Thanks so much for that and all the best to you!
Fantastic bench, well done. Your production quality and weirdness is a pleasure to watch.
Us woodworkers are truly obsessed with accuracy but you take it to a whole new scary level. 😺
Thanks awesome you enjoyed it and thanks for that Tom! I think I got that way from watching my dad build some guitars when I was a kid :) Cheers Mate and thanks for stopping in!
wow, thank you verry much! At the beginning of your video, i felt bad…at the end, i have had a big smile on my face and into my heart ♥️ you are genious! Greatings from Germany
Hey Esmeralda from Germany! It is so nice to hear from you and thank you for your kind words. I'm so happy to share a smile of the heart with you! Thank you for this! Paul
This is my first video of yours and I am immediately looking for another one. This was pure entertainment.
Reading this sure brought a smile to my face! Its very encouraging to hear and thank you so much for that. Looking forward to sharing more with you, Cheers!
Great job! The build is amazing and I want to copy your design and your video is very entertaining. I've watched it a few time in the last week. A++ It's got a little Frank H to it..and I love his stuff.
You are missing one thing -- "backboards" for the miter saw -- that is, something in-plane with the miter saw fences, so stuff stays in-line with them more accurately.
Obviously, they need to be removable, so... something with pegs that goes down into it -- probably metal dowels and suitable sleeves for exact positioning. Perhaps some 2060, 4060, 2080, or 4080 Aluminum T-track, rather than wood, to prevent warping and temp changes. And the benefit is, you can get or rig some stop mechanisms and the like that use the t-track. Looks great, though.
Also, how to fix it down, so it can't lift up -- maybe some steel washers on the underside, with some in-table Mag Switches, or, alternately, you might be able to rig up your own -- look into how magswitches work, you CAN make your own.
Hey Nick, I just looked up the MagSwitches! Did not know they were even a thing and thanks for putting me onto those and for some of the great ideas for the backboards for the miter saw! You have some good thoughts there and I appreciate you sharing them with me, gives me food for thought mate and greatly appreciated. All the best to you :)
I’m still 40% away from finishing my work bench and you gave me good ideas. Thanks ❤️
Way to go for tackling you're own workbench! I hope it brings you great satisfaction! Thank you so much ! Cheers
Wow Paul! Fellow Canadian here (...wish I lived on the West Coast). That is without a doubt the best made, best conceived, best produced, best scripted, best narrated woodworking full length feature film I've ever seen. Totally mind-blowing quality. I can't imagine the number of hours it took to put it all together.
Out of curiosity, just how many hours did it take?
Thank you for such a kind compliment and I'm thrilled you enjoyed my video! Somewhere around about 4 1/2 months, way to long lol and I hope to get faster at it the more I do. Thanks so much again my fellow Canadian eh!! :)
Sure was glad to see the pencil sharpener is still around. I also hope that you have more blue pencils that one is getting short. I think it is fare to say you have the best editing skills of any woodworking TH-cam videos. Makes me wonder if you do it professionally? Other than all of that very skilled and dedicated to perfecting projects you work on. Glad dad was there to help you out a bit. Thanks for sharing
Hi jjamontan, I enjoyed reading your comment, especially regarding my dad, without him or my mom, there's no me. So thanks so much for checking out my video and posting your comment. It means a lot to me and I'm happy you enjoyed it! Oh, btw, I'm by no means a professional regarding the editing, but cool you wondered about it :) Thanks again jjamontan! Cheers Paul
I don't need a workbench, and I don't need to flip a mitersaw either...but your work is amazing so I watched anyway.
Hey Rich that is just awesome to read. Thank so much for that and I really appreciate that you stopped in to check it out. All the best to you!
Great project! I like your approach!
Finally a realistic video! ... but the video tops the project in my opinion! Imaginative, creative, interesting, funny, ... simply very professional and certainly very time-consuming!
Thanks for that! I'm looking forward to more of this! Kind regards from Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany 🙂Kuno
Vielen Dank Kuno! all the way from Germany :) My mother speaks German and we have many German tourists here in the summer time. Thanks for your comments and for your message and I'm glad you enjoyed my video, and this one took a while! Till next time, thanks again :) Cheers from Vancouver Island, Paul

De la belle ouvrage comme disait mon grand père !
Hey so awesome to hear in the words of your grandfather Thierry! Thanks you so much! Cheers!
In before 1M subs, the production quality here is amazing, you must have as much skill video editing as woodworking
Hi ross 1M subs! Wow, reading comments like yours fuels me to keep creating and learning. Thanks so much for that and for your support!
Great video and great job, but my favorite part is the pencil sharpener!
ahaha :) I enjoy using the sharpener every time my friend. Thanks so much for stopping in!

The video production on this is above the rest. The storytelling, the music, lighting, editing. Amazing. Keep it up.

Quick trick to avoid the tear-out problem with the router: Score the piece at the point where the cut ends. If it's a deep cut and you want more confidence, score it a second time, more deeply, just a little bit inside the cut.
Hey Jaime I greatly appreciate the scoring tip! I will never forget this now :) Thanks so much brother for that! and thank you for stopping in, Cheers Paul
Nice work, fun to watch! Thanks!
Its really encouraging that you found it a fun watch! Thank you and thanks for letting me know! Cheers
Cherish your dad. i lost mine when i was 8, only have a few workshop memories.
That is so young :( I cant imagine what that must have been like. My dad lost his dad when he was only 7. So you and my dad share this same loss. I just came back from seeing him and my mom, and enjoy every second we get to share with each other. Thanks for the reminding me what is truly important. Paul.
I really appreciate the list of tools, but you missed one. Where can I get the cool pencil sharpener?
Ha! I wish I knew were I could find a replacement too Jaime, it came with Anna when we got married, I think her grandma sent it over from Japan when she was a wee tot! All the best to you!
Great build -- subscribed!
A suggestion for the curved section on the braces @8:15: instead of routing freehand on your finished pieces, consider making a template out of 1/2in. MDF first. If you're not happy with it you can start again without wasting your finished braces, and you'll get much more consistent profiles on both pieces.
Thanks for that! I just read a similar comment and mentioned I was not smart enough to even think of that! but I definitely will keep it in my back pocked for the next time! Thanks so much again! Cheers
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
It is my please and thank you so much for stopping in!
Wow! you do great work!
Thank you! Its fun to learn, mistakes and all :)
