Product placement isn't necessarily a problem unless it's actually compromising/detracting from the narrative just to sell us something. That doesn't seem to be the case here. We know Sony and Porche aren't trying to sell CD players or spaceships, so without actual products, this feels less like "product placement" and more like environmental storytelling that happens to use brand recognition. It's a unique way of establishing that this game's world takes place within our own universe. Also it's Naughty Dog... they're not really the type of studio that would sacrifice the integrity of their stories for cheap marketing tactics. It's more likely the product tie-ins are designed just to make players do the DiCaprio point at the screen, saying "Hey I know this reality! I exist in it too." That mindset can help take the "ick" and turn it into something that can be seen as a positive, IMO.
There was so much cringe, Aaron Paul, Snoop Dogg, the muppets, the dead dad/twitter comment from that guy whos game flopped and the rest. The Witcher 4 and Naughty dogs new game were awful, and Astro Bot winning everything it was in. An awful year.
@@speedforce8970 If frankness and honesty still makes most of the audience physically recoil in their seats from embarrassment then yes, it is still very cringe. Honesty is irrelevant to how cringey something is.
I'm here for the return of golden era Capcom. With their recent Monster Hunter and Resident Evil releases and now a new Okami and Onimusha. Just need a new Mega Man like Matty says!
I feel this Game Awards, specially with Sven’s speech for the Astro Bot win, is a turning point for the industry. I haven’t been this excited for gaming since I got a PS3 for christmas in High School.
Funny. I recently watched the Secret Level series on Prime Video and after watching episode 6 - PacMan Circle I was like, "wow, this could be an interesting PM game". Then, the VGA's showed Shadow Labyrinth. Nice!
I dont think you realise how much geoff charges for a single minute of a trailer… fanles alreadu had several trailers that wouldve been a waste of money out of everything they couldve shown off. Astro Bot winning GOTY shows there is definitely a média bias towards Sony, not Nintendo. Big N has at least 30 games better and more deserving that never won, as good as Astro bot is.
Seeing Harrison Ford was a delightful surprise. Wasn't too big a fan of the Awards announcements this year. Far too much gacha nonsense for my taste. But it was neat seeing confirmation of The Witcher 4 and the new Mafia game. Laura Bailey's new game with Arron Paul also looks fun and Onimusha returning was nice. But the highlight for me was the Intergalactic game: TLOU2 was such a fantastic game for me, more than I was ever expecting, and this new IP has much of my confidence.
I'm very excited for Turok, I like 3rd person so the change isn't a problem for me personally, but I wanna see more gameplay. Also the Helldivers update was a blast! The new faction is tough and they added cities so you're doing urban combat which was a lot of fun. If you left for any reason now is a good time to try it out again (they reversed the nerfs so guns are fun again)
Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2 got me so hyped. I was not expecting that. The first one is so damn good. How do you not bring that up man. Beautiful game and the best survival game you can play.
CDPR has a chance to do something very special with an incredible story that they crafted. The Witcher 3 is the only game that ever made me emotional playing it and getting the Witcher Ciri ending the first time around was amazing. That being said I never viewed that as her becoming an actual Witcher. Taking mutagens and all that stuff. If they can come up with a compelling reason for her to be a Witcher now and craft a story as good as Witcher 3/Cyberpunk, I'm excited. If they turn Ciri into a 'lol i win u lose' girl boss type who just talks down to everyone then I'll be out for The Witcher 5/6.
Probably the best Game Awards yet. Great pace, some good announcements, and on a personal note... no gripes with who won what. PS: I keep expecting Fable to show up to *something* with decent gameplay footage and I keep getting disappointed.
Yh I'm impressed how much geoff joked about the previous issues with the show. He even acknowledged the kojima friendship only to pan to kojima, who I don't think even knows what the Muppets even said. I'm still kinda surprised astro bot won.
Idk why, cuz people.. But I was surprised at how bent out of shape lots of people were. Too many people jacked up for HL3 with little to no real reason to be.
Okami was beautiful on an artistic level, especially the cherry blossoms, in some ways a Zelda clone, that at the time made good use of the Nintendo Wii remote as a paintbrush that was utilized for powers. The story of the Japanese goddess Amaterasu and her goal in Okami was beautiful and emotional.
I did let out the biggest MEH when seen Witcher 4. Ciri's story ended really nicely. I wished we could have a custom Witcher now. I don't want Witcher to be the next Star Wars, where you have a big expanded universe that revolves around the same three people.
Same here. I was really disappointed. I think they really missed a chance to have us create our own witcher, maybe even in the past before Geralt and the fall of the Witchers so we could create our own character.
I feel the same. It was a good trailer… but we’ve been there. We’ve done the whole Ciri thing, she was a huge part of TW3, and it was great… but now it was time for a fresh start. I’m not super hyped for a whole trilogy based on Ciri and her ongoing story
Thank you for this video! I couldn't watch live because of work (the show started at 11am here in Australia) but I'm glad you got us down under covered.
As always, great video. However... Is anyone besides me getting extremely tired of the overuse of the word "cook" in the context of things people/studios are working on? Good lord. Not just a gaming thing either. It's literally being used EVERYWHERE for EVERYTHING.
In my opinion, it's still ridiculous that winners of other categories are blitzed through without being able to give an acceptance speech, meanwhile we're paying actors to do bits and watching Geoff's puppet show.
In regards to intergalactic. Am i the only one that doesn’t mind the product placement? I always felt stuff like that in games made the world feel real and alive (like midnight club)
I know people keep going on about it but I would love to see a fallout 3 and new vegas 60 fps version for the ps5. I would buy it and I’m such many more will who have the ps5.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the anime on screen. Naughty dog doing a cowboy bebop is not what I knew what I wanted. Its nice to see them branch out with a new franchise as much as I love uncharted and TLOU
Turok come on you guys can’t argue that series that is related to the N64 should somehow be FPS. That game is so old that you can’t blame the developer for saying let’s try something different. They tried to make that game a first person power house more than 20 years ago. Why would you argue that this game must be in first person today most people don’t even know what it is. I don’t even remember it and I had it on my N 64.
The majority of those two teams will have their hands full with post-launch support including DLC. On top of that it does not matter if Obsidian has room because Bethesda is not going to let others work with the Fallout IP as long as they can milk it using Fallout 76. It is also likely that the west coast setting and lore will be completely in ruins once season 2 of the Amazon series has ended so there will not be much left for Obsidian to work with. Last but not least the only person at Obsidian that can be the director for a Fallout game is Josh Sawyer and he genuinely does not seem to be interested in big projects any more. The stress and pressure of being game director pretty much wrecked him during PoE and PoE2 and he seems far happier now as studio design director.
Because unlike conspiracy theories or reaching griffting nonsense in this case as clear as day light many devs with high decision making positions at Obsidian were posting many times and trying to come up with ideas how to make their game to anger Elon Musk.. if that doesn't brake your immersion or any trust in devs to respect your immersion of the world they are working on then idk what does.. where they are literally fighting lefty political wars in your game.
I think New Vegas is one of the best games ever, after seeing that I wouldn't touch an Obsidian game if you paid me.. honestly I couldn't be happier I just used the 70 from Awoke to buy a better edition of kingdom come deliverance and now a bunch of their games also freed up my back log, idc who you are there is alot to play out there and my backlog is huge you do something like this you're done for good..
Yeah this was the Best Game Awards. I started watching it since it was on Spike TV and I remember how it felt rush and disrespectful to the devs with how they barely got to to talk when receiving the awards and I thought the winners were all just predictable mainstream bro games. This was my first year watching in a long time and it was actually good. Also glad to see a new black owned studio coming though I wouldn't expect it to be Snoop Dogg.
Once I saw how the voting for the actual awards are divided, I have no interest. When the awards are decided by actual gamers instead of out-of-touch journos, call me back. I keep an eye on the date for "World Premier"s, other than that, I don't care.
@bloodywolf9760 At least it'll be truthful! And it wouldn't be all the games. I'm imagining it's only selected from games released this year, and sorted by most popular.
That award show was a 180 from last year. It was a great show. It felt professionally done, it has great pace, great announcements, the speakers were great, and the performances were amazing.
Just quietly… as you brought up The Game Awards less than fluid transitions from game trailers to sponsored advertising, TH-cam (mid sentence) force fed me an ad break. It was the most meta inception to happen to my matrix this week I think.
The fact that Matty didn’t even mention the winner of Game of the Year proves two things; A) no one cares about the awards themselves B) such a solid showcase of announcements so who cares
Astro and Helldivers won what they should have won. A lot of heat and megatons for me. New 2D Ninja Gaiden, finally saw former Team Ico game over at Epic and Naughty Dog's game, Helldivers 2 shadow dropped the new species and it's like Zombies x War of the Worlds, Witcher 4, Borderlands 4, Turok, Onimusha and Virtua Fighter. Absolute fire. Pretty much everything else looked cool too if I had time and money for all of it.
Might be time to start saving up for some of these games. If even half of them deliver we’re gonna have a good year next year and awards could be stacked.
Loved watching all the goobers throw a fit in chat after Astrobot won. I knew a certain type of person would trip out if that won, I wasn’t wrong, pure entertainment

I completely forgot about The Last Guardian until you mentioned it. I still hear people mention Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I don't think Last Guardian was received as well.
This show had Okami 2, a new Onimusha, Witcher 4, a new team Ico game but the biggest surprise is a sequel to an Obsidian game we already knew about lol
Okami and its spin-off DS game Okamiden are amazing games. The whole gameplay revolves around ink paintings and different brush techniques (as in you literally paint shapes for different effects) to solve puzzles and fight. It’s not only really charming, it has lovable characters, a bit of a goofy story and some really fun puzzles. It’s also really pretty. Highly, highly recommend it. Words cannot express how happy I am that they’re bringing it back. Can’t wait to see Ammy’s new adventure ❤

What?! Okami sequel. About time! That game deserves so much respect. It takes the Zelda adventure format, but with a unique spin and art style. (I liked it better than Zelda and I’ve been a fan since the NES.)
I watched for 2 of my all time favorite franchises Witcher and Mafia Im very happy with what I saw from the Witcher 4 trailer because I love Ciri as a character I'm happy the story is going forward and not a prequel.. I don't really know how I feel about Mafia I'm just not into the setting..
I love that Ciri is the new mc for the upcoming Witcher! I’ve kept up with the lore for the Witcher but never gave it a genuine try bc I didn’t want to play as Geralt. Might finally dip my toes into the series now
I have MAJOR concerns for the new Naughty Dog game. With how their games have started leaning lately, their focus has not been on the game itself as it has been... other things. 😒 Not a fan of what they showed already.

I exist in it too."
That mindset can help take the "ick" and turn it into something that can be seen as a positive, IMO.
No cap, that was the best TGA show to date (I know that is a pretty low bar to clear)
No zoomie, that show sucked.
There was so much cringe, Aaron Paul, Snoop Dogg, the muppets, the dead dad/twitter comment from that guy whos game flopped and the rest. The Witcher 4 and Naughty dogs new game were awful, and Astro Bot winning everything it was in. An awful year.
@@TheRealSlimsagey7apparently being frank and honest is "cringe". This was the most self aware TGA has ever been but haters gonna hate
It was trash
@@speedforce8970 If frankness and honesty still makes most of the audience physically recoil in their seats from embarrassment then yes, it is still very cringe. Honesty is irrelevant to how cringey something is.
I'm here for the return of golden era Capcom. With their recent Monster Hunter and Resident Evil releases and now a new Okami and Onimusha. Just need a new Mega Man like Matty says!
I think, should be more faith in Saber after Word War Z and Space Marine 2!
We witnessed the Turok franchise to come back only to be executed on the spot.
Appreciate a quick turn around as I decided to go to sleep during the down period due to my early flight today.
Getting to season 6 of got and then stopping is honestly the best thing you could possibly do! DON'T FINISH IT
Crimson Desert is my most hyped game for next year
The product placement in Intergalactic gave me the feeling that the universe is set in the near future or alternative future, and not the far future
Or .. hear me out... They are shamelessly taking money from advertisers
Sonic races cars because he's getting old! I mean he's 33 years old!😂
I feel this Game Awards, specially with Sven’s speech for the Astro Bot win, is a turning point for the industry.
I haven’t been this excited for gaming since I got a PS3 for christmas in High School.
I played "The First Berserker" demo awhile back and it was pretty good.
Yeah his take is bad on that. The fact he probably didn’t even know there was a demo and that they’re “burying it” is a ridiculous take
Funny. I recently watched the Secret Level series on Prime Video and after watching episode 6 - PacMan Circle I was like, "wow, this could be an interesting PM game". Then, the VGA's showed Shadow Labyrinth. Nice!
Just realized no Fable 🤨 Perfect opportunity for a gameplay trailer
Where is Wonder Woman 🤧
I dont think you realise how much geoff charges for a single minute of a trailer… fanles alreadu had several trailers that wouldve been a waste of money out of everything they couldve shown off. I get its more eyes on the game but fables already so well known and xbox can just take their time with it in their dev direct in january
I wanted to see Kotor or GTA 6 lol
@@DanielMacfarlane-dp4kzMicrosoft spent 70 billion on Activision and 7 billion on ZeniMax within a couple years...
I don't think 100k is going to hurt them lol
The Xbox Developer Direct next month is probably when we get that.
Astro Bot winning GOTY is so important. I really think a new age of 3D platformers will begin from this. I have waited so long for this.
“So important” lol ok bud
It’s a great games but we aren’t going to see some new renaissance happening from a bs award lol
@ “lol ok bud” 🤓
@@rayhunt11gotta love those “lol okay bud” people eh?
Ngl I was shook that it won over big contendors like Eldin Ring, Wukong, and Metaphor. Wukong especially.
But the highlight for me was the Intergalactic game: TLOU2 was such a fantastic game for me, more than I was ever expecting, and this new IP has much of my confidence.
same here but my love for naughty dog comes from uncharted although LOU is amazing. Uncharted has been my favorite since I being really young
@shinichiizumi2242 I never got into Uncharted, myself, but I get what you mean.
Turok origins could have been a fast paced FPS like the new DOOMs since they brought that franchise back in a big way but instead of we .... this.
Bruh, you need to play Okami. Straight up no excuse.
That Anime she was watching was a nod to Cowboy Bebop 😎
Borderlands 4, Witcher 4, crimson desert , Elden ring are what I’m so hyped about and looking forward to play hours on end
Seeing a new Witcher trailer brought me back to 2015
@ word, straight up. Lol
PlayStation dominated their down year
Probably the best Game Awards yet.
I'm still kinda surprised astro bot won.
good award show toxic ass chat
Always
Idk why, cuz people.. But I was surprised at how bent out of shape lots of people were. Too many people jacked up for HL3 with little to no real reason to be.
watched the show through cohhs stream, so much more enjoyable.
Woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke
I felt very weird about the product placement too. Maybe it was deliberate, to ground the game in our universe specifically?
it gave it a weird realistic feel
i think it’s cool to see what a porsche designer would make if they were tasked with designing a space ship
My ending, was beginings. Ciri chose witcher path
I like it
Yeah if anything it makes it better
Same
it's fine here and there. what bothers me is the use of real life celebrities in games. i'm at the point where it's an instant hype killer for me.
@ I agree if it’s a multiplayer game but I don’t think we’ve gotten it for many single player games
Great summary of the event. I didn't feel like watching it as it was early hours here. Perfect vid
Borderlands 4 playable characters… Sweet Baby Inc strikes again.
I know people keep going on about it but I would love to see a fallout 3 and new vegas 60 fps version for the ps5. I would buy it and I’m such many more will who have the ps5.
Intergalactic gave me a Cowboy Bebop vibe and that excites me
apparently heavily inspired by cowboy bebop and some akira, it's gonna be amazing
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the anime on screen. Naughty dog doing a cowboy bebop is not what I knew what I wanted. Its nice to see them branch out with a new franchise as much as I love uncharted and TLOU
Couldnt have looked worse in my opinion. Naughty dog is dead to me.
@@plebmike8997 ok
@@plebmike8997Why?
You’re the man Matty. I heard the game awards was on and said “I can’t wait to hear Marty’s recap”
Turok would NOT survive as a modern fps
The fps genre hasn’t had a breakout success in like a decade… glad they did something different
Turok on xbox was an fps
Glad they changed it up and can't wait to try this new game
Yeah that game got me excited
So, they said Ourter Worlds 2 is next year, Avowed is pretty much done. It seems like Obsidian has room for Fallout.
That would be a nightmare.. but plenty of ways they can feed their obsession and stick it to Elon Musk in Fallout thats for sure
Why would it be nightmare
Turok is and always will be a First Person Shooter. Literally all Devs need to do is remake Turok 2 and everyone will be happy.
Speak for yourself.
Seeing how players voice was 3 gacha games, one being out since 2020….i have little faith it’d be much better.
@bloodywolf9760 At least it'll be truthful! And it wouldn't be all the games. I'm imagining it's only selected from games released this year, and sorted by most popular.
The Game of Thrones game is a mobile title, which killed my excitement personally.
I have been a fanatical gamer for more than 45 years (yes, I am ancient), but I never cared about who got awards. It means nothing to me.
Matty: "Please Capcom, stop it with the classic Mega Man. Do something with X! We need a new Mega Man X game!"
Mega Man Legends: "Am I a joke to you?"
Watch game awards.
Wait for Matty to release a video about the game awards.
How was that awesome.
I'm so glad i didn't watch that live so i could skip through mist of it.
The fact that Matty didn’t even mention the winner of Game of the Year proves two things;
A) no one cares about the awards themselves
B) such a solid showcase of announcements so who cares
Astro and Helldivers won what they should have won. A lot of heat and megatons for me. New 2D Ninja Gaiden, finally saw former Team Ico game over at Epic and Naughty Dog's game, Helldivers 2 shadow dropped the new species and it's like Zombies x War of the Worlds, Witcher 4, Borderlands 4, Turok, Onimusha and Virtua Fighter. Absolute fire.
Pretty much everything else looked cool too if I had time and money for all of it.
I would never have expected to see Naughty Dog's next game pop up here. I was so giddy.
Finally a non incel review that calls most the games "dei" or "woke" its so tiring seeing how people reacted to intergalactic and the wither 4 😭
You mean the type of people who though another game deserved to win. What kind of people are they exactly?
@ No not at all, that’s reasonable. The flood of “rigged” comments or anyone who assumed conspiracy or unfair practices because a cute little platformer won. Your comment seems a little hot too though hope u have a blessed day homie
I completely forgot about The Last Guardian until you mentioned it. I still hear people mention Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I don't think Last Guardian was received as well.
Homeboy said Outer Worlds was the biggest surprise when this show had OKAMI 2
Can’t wait to see Ammy’s new adventure ❤
too many things i was excited about
okami
onimusha
ninja gaiden
and ofc freaking elden ring nr, im still in the middle of my first ER playthrough and i’m just excited for the content coming out from fromsoftware
What?! Okami sequel. About time! That game deserves so much respect. It takes the Zelda adventure format, but with a unique spin and art style. (I liked it better than Zelda and I’ve been a fan since the NES.)
Way to not talk about the most important thing that went on during the awards, the game changer award
I kept waiting for him to thank his wife’s boyfriend during his acceptance speech but he never did, pretty fucking ungrateful that.
Did Matty really say cd project red didn't miss with cyberpunk 2077??? 😅😅
They didn't miss, they just took a few years after release to aim up their shot xD
Bro loves the onimusha. How you could play and do levels different to bring in the other characters or whatever it was awesome.
I love that Ciri is the new mc for the upcoming Witcher! I’ve kept up with the lore for the Witcher but never gave it a genuine try bc I didn’t want to play as Geralt. Might finally dip my toes into the series now
Why didn’t you want to play as Geralt? I think he’s one of the best protagonist in the industry 😅
I wanted to play as a brand new protagonist but I love Ciri as well
Gotta love the Skyrim music in the background 😎😎
I have MAJOR concerns for the new Naughty Dog game. With how their games have started leaning lately, their focus has not been on the game itself as it has been... other things. 😒 Not a fan of what they showed already.
game looks hideous lmao
Matty you got this video out so fast man! 😂 Thank you man!
That knob head art director has soured me on avowed and if he has worked on outer worlds that will be a dealbreaker for me. These companies need to be careful and stop hiring bigots like Matt hansen
Might be the only games I sail the high seas for.
I didn't really like it lol I didn't find most of the announcements exciting personally. And this was the first time I actually watched it.
