your take on the witcher 3's combat is limited is total bullshit, i've played at least 3 kind of geralt, fast build, strong build, magic build, and there are many in between them just like in cyberpunk 2077, stop talking out of your ass
Obviously as per lore women can't become Witchers, elves can't become witchers and adults don't survive the trial to become a Witcher. I don't care for the reasons, i just don't like the decision to play as a female Witcher all the time. Yeah, now we can flirt with males and lesbians in the game.
Start a Death March in the Witcher 3. I promise you will need more than just your silver sword. I've learned that a lot of times, the highest difficulty is where you're gonna get the most out of games. Because I needed every single Bomb, Oil, Sign, Potion, and Decoctation in some of my battles.
I personally think Blood and Broken Bones is perfect for letting the player be a little free in how they tackle situations while making them utilize all the available tools. Death March is still really good; I just find it a little too strict on character level. It's the only game I've ever recommended people not play on the Normal difficulty, though.
obviously people should play on whatever difficulty they feel comfortable with, broken bones isn’t bad, but death march really gives you the Witcher feeling. It feeds organically into doing a lot of prep before a fight, and consulting the glossary for weaknesses. So I would encourage people on their 2nd or 3rd playthrough to really crank that difficulty cause it will give you an entirely new experience and really immerse you in what it means to be a witcher.
I always go the second to last difficulty in games. Whether there's 3, 4, or 5 difficulties. Usually the perfect balance of fun and rewarding challenge for me
I never finished The Witcher 3 (I've tried going back, and can't, but I'm not sure why (more just a me thing, I guess), but Ciri was the obvious choice for the next saga/story/game
People are so obsessed with making reality fit their world view. This feaux outrage highlights how most people whining about DEI were always blowing hot air.
Yeah, now women can become witcher, elves can become Witcher, Adults survive the trial. Geralt not beeing the mainprotagonist makes sense, Ciri is debattable.
@@currywurst2434 Ehhhh Ciri has super special blood that lets her travel the multi verse. She's probably the only female who can survive the Trial of Grasses cause of her weird powers and DNA. Or if that doesn't work for you, another theory online is that she traveled to a alternate Witcher dimension where the Witchers of that universe discovered how to tweak the Trial of Grasses to let women survive sometimes. I think this is why she has a Lynx medallion cause unlike in our mainline universe where the School of the Lynx doesn't exist, it did exist in that alternate universe.
@@currywurst2434 nah, I would pick Ciri any day over some random dude who just happened to be a witcher as if Geralt never exist.. Ciri is the legacy of Geralt in this game.. He trained her himself.. and he put his own life on the line to save her. Ciri is already an established character. I dunno how they will cook the story in this new game.. but Ciri is an excellent succcessor of Geralt.. IMO.
@@sheepherder911Witcher needs the books to stand as a great story, not another custom "your choices totally matter" character plotline. We didn't even need a Witcher 4, but if they're gonna do it at least use a character that already exists (and they hopefully don't murder the personality of).
Playing as Ciri is exactly what I was hoping for. I just hope this game doesn't have a rocky cyberpunk type of launch. Surely the corpos at cdpr learned their lesson, riiiight?
@@itsbw8858when I first played it, it wasn't clicking, felt like I was forcing it because the world was cool. But after a year and a half, I tried again and it became a top 5 all time for me. I've beaten that game 3 times and the expansions twice
They have to choose a canon ending. One ending has Nilfgard conquering the north with Emreis ruling over the continent, one has Emreis losing power and the North being independent, and ine ending had Ciri becoming Empress of Nifgard. They're choosing the ending where Ciri becomes a Witcher and unless she travels to a new continent, they have to choose who rules.
They aren’t. If they were they’d be excited Ciri is the protag if it’s not Geralt. Ever since blood and wine they’ve said it was the end of his story. They just see woman and complain about lore and the source material. It’s pathetic.
Agreed. I'm not upset with Ciri being the protagonist. However, I am upset with her becoming a Witcher. Yes, she was trained as a Witcher, but she never underwent the Trial of Grasses. On top of that, she is already an adult, making it too late for mutagens. If they bend the core lore to make her a Witcher, then it will be a hard pass for me. So far, we know too little, but I would like to see Ciri have Elder Blood magic abilities and a talent tree, along with Witcher close combat skills, instead of being a carbon copy of Geralt. Her becoming a full Witcher would be a downgrade for her unless she retains her Elder Blood magic. Anyway, I will wait and see. Good writing will either make or break the game for me.
@@richardkluchnik7991 I can only hope she improves for better in Witcher 4. I only enjoyed playing her "character" as the combat was fun, zippy and fast in Witcher 3.
People forget that cinematic trailers sometimes don't fully represent that final model. In the opening cutscene in the Witcher 3, Yennifer looks nothing like what she does in the game engine. Not sure why people are hung up on Ciri's appearence on a cinematic 🥴
I personally dig the look of the older/seasoned Witcher 4 Ciri in the cinematic version, with it being built in Unreal Engine 5 im sure the in-game model won't look much different 🤷
@@gabrielhoward5601 I'm just surmising. People take cinematic trailers as gospel when it's most likely in early development. A lot can happen in 3 years. I quite like the model tbh, as long as we get another banger story, then I'm happy 👍🏼
@Michael-xy1wl facts, i know Cd Project will do an amazing job. I have zero doubts. I've got plenty of time to finish up Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine dlc well before Witcher 4 drops. Very excited 😎
I played the entire witcher trilogy back to back without doing anything else in between. When I finished blood and wine I was like, of course ciri will be the protagonist In the next game, and of course she is. It's the natural momentum of the story without Geralt as the protagonist.
One, that's not the trilogy lol. Two, the drama isn't about Ciri being the protagonist, it's about how garbage they made her and that Witcher 3 devs arent working on this. It's a 70% female dev team with menstruation days off (yes that is real, CDPR is beyond woke). This is garbage.
@@WilmoWins She has Elder Blood in her and is Entirely unique, she did become a witcher at least in title At end of one of the W3 (now canon) ending. It's possible maybe Her blood allowed her to be able to handle the toxins or maybe there is something else we are missing entirely? It's to early to tell if the lore has outright been broken, It's possible the beginning of W4 will give us a Proper explanation I think it's to early to judge tbh
@@KainsAddiction wtf... all this bulls* because she's not pretty enough for some of you and you'd rather have a Stellar Blade Anime girl in her place? And stop spreading such nonsense, if you ever had a GF, mother, female friend you'd know that a menstruation day off has nothing to to with being woke, it's just a sick leave because the woman feels like crap and can't work properly anyway. And paid sick days are perfectly normal in EU countries. God, IO'm sio ashamed of being a gamer seeing all these comments, everyone who has played the series or read the books could see this coming since 2015.
I do think that Ciri or a create your own Witcher were the two obvious choices. Especially after the end of witcher 3. Little dissapointed they seem to have switched her voice actor out though. Everything else about the cinematic trailer was complete hype though.
Tbh I think in the future they should consider a creator character. There is constant controversy whenever a female lead is chosen. Men want to be represented, which is fine but clearly some can’t take turns. Only way to solve this for everyone is to make a created character system with a character driven story. Like Shepard in ME. Or like Geralt, but with more customization.
You can't take turns either as you didn't want to play as Geralt (just read that post of you)..... I have no problems with character creators, but obviously it means a lot more work to make it a story driven game like The Witcher and if they don't have the time it can make it worse. You can have your fun with Witcher 4 and love it, no one is taking that away from you, but obviously not everyone has to be hyped about that decision after being used to play as Geralt/ a male Witcher, and there weren't female Witchers in the books or games before.
Ciri actually makes sense as a female protagonist. She has a ton of characterization, has trained under combat experts throughout her childhood, has experience in the world, etc... She's the opposite of a Mary Sue and I hope writers can acknowledge the difference.
She kind of was a Mary Sue in the books, any character with the "Chosen One" power inevitably is. She goes through a lot of hardships, sure, but she doesn't really do much for her power, it's just there at the most opportune time for when she needs it.
@@shaktra1563 That has nothing to do with insecurity. Or were women insecure when they complained about too much white male characters and no choice? they just don't like the strong woman trope in almost every game. Not every man wants to cosplay as a woman all the time. Obviously it changes the playthrough, the story etc. It goes a bit against the lore of the books too. It was said elves can't become Witcher, it was said girls can't become Witcher. It was said adults can't survive the trial. But well, we will see how it turns out sales wise.
So happy about this. Ciri is an incredible protagonist and deserves the spotlight. I've been a huge Witcher fan of both the novels and the video games and they're not wrong. Ciri is the spotlight of The Witcher. The story was always about her both in the books and the games. She has incredible depth and uniqueness. I know people are going to complain about this being a social choice, but it's not. This is in line with the core of Witcher and I'm looking forward to see how we can further develop Ciri's character
If you play TW3 on hard mode, it forces you to use more of the mechanics like planning out every encounter, having the potions you need etc. the problem is that in normal mode, you can just hit everything with a sword and beat the game that way. The gameplay is significantly better on higher difficulties, which is unfortunate.
Agreed. In an interview a while back a CDPR dev even acknowledged that they made the normal difficulty much too easy and therefore the fan base didn't actively engage with the gameplay systems and mechanics as much as they wanted them too. This is why i'm expecting that TW4 will be a significantly more challenging game.
The gameplay is still just hitting everything.... Even on higher difficulty you don't have much diversity on that part. Potions and other "mechanics" are just there so your hitting lowers the healthbar faster...
Or does the higher difficulty add a stealth feature??? And the same sandbox freedom as metal gear solid 5??? Fixes the clunky ass controls??? (By the way kingdom hearts 2 from 2005 plays much much better then witcher 3.) If yes then goddammit time to play it on higher difficulty.
Death March is the only way to play the game(Witcher 3). It forces you to actually use everything in Geralt’s arsenal. It’s not perfect but it’s far better when you make it more difficult with real danger facing the monsters.
People like myself that have read the books understand that Ciri is really the main character of the story and that's why Ciri taking the lead role isn't the issue the issue is that she never did the trial of grasses and never became a witcher in the books. Ciri is a BA character in the books with amazing powers of her own you don't need to make her a Geralt clone. Those who are trying to justify this absolute insult to the source material are nothing more than shills, who's opinions should be ignored.
Sorry but why could'nt it be that she did the trial of grasses after the witcher 3 ending where she choose to become a witcher? I think that the fact that she has elder blood would more than justify her ability to survive it and it would even provide for some innovations gameplay-wise without having to remove stuff already present in tw3 like potions ecc
I like them continuing with Ciri. I liked her character. It is almost like getting a younger Geralt. I see zero issue with playing as her. It’s like the people not being happy with Sheppard no longer being the main character in Mass Effect. (Considering Bioware and its direction would you trust that writing team with a character such as Sheppard anyways?) I prefer Ciri over some other generic new Witcher because of the built in layers and what they can do with that character and her past stories. I am excited. So long as they don’t pull a year 1 of CyberPunk on us that is. Lol
She was the opposite of Geralt, he was someone who didn't really care about people and just hunted monsters for money, she was someone who did care about people and hunted monsters to help them. She went through hell and came back a good person, she even dropped her revenge against those who many would agree deserved it. Geralt killed innocents and is very much not against killing people who irk him, as shown literally at the start of The Witcher 3. About the only thing they have in common is that they share a bond with Yennifer and are good with the sword.
This is exactly what I compared it to! People would not let Shepard go despite their tale being whole and complete. I think its very limiting to expect one character to hog that much limelight. There should always be space in a medium like gaming to insert multiple perspectives.
Right? I think it mostly comes down to people not wanting change, and also you know, 2024. It's like if Kratos was to retire in God of War, yeah it makes sense, Geralt is retired. Ciri is the perfect choice, I loved her character and I can't wait to see more of her.
I would have liked to play as a male Witcher and if its for the relationships and loveinterests. Now we can flirt with males or the lesbian choice. Not a fan of that. ALso i thought Women, Elves and adults can't become Witcher. Also Ciri is a tortured hag now lol
The Witcher 3 is my all time favorite game. Gaunter O’Dimm in Hearts and Stone is a Master Class in how to write a proper villain. Blood and Wine is my all time favorite DLC. The characters and storylines in Witcher 3 as a whole are rich and beautiful. Play the game in its entirety. I promise you, you will not regret it.
I been thinking of getting the Witcher 3 for my first Witcher game I haven’t played the games or read the books but had seen season 1 of the tv series, now that I seen The Witcher 4 trailer I might pick it up I like The look of Ciri Great video
The books are good if you are a person who can have a book hold your attention, when I read I fall asleep. TW3 is the best game, one of my all time favorites. The tv series was shit. The only good thing about it go driven out of it.
I remember around the release of blood and wine, cd projekt red said that the next entry of the franchise would be about ciri, as geralts story had been told. It's so frustrating to see people with zero knowledge of the source material claim that the series should only be about geralt as a protagonist.
I talked with a buddy at work yesterday. He thought this move was going to ruin the game with Ciri. After 3 minutes into the convo he said he only played the Witcher 3 for 5 hours…. lol explains alot.
Don't understand the outrage over Ciri being the main character, it was always going to be the case.. Could MAYBE understand it a little if it was a random female witcher instead of making the choice optional like in Cyberpunk. But this is an established character that has relationships with all the cast that's bound to show up in the story making things more personal than if it was just a jane doe. I just think people are upset because Ciri is a woman.. and to them grow up seriously. A lot of games out there have incredible female leads, I for one I am really exicited to continue Ciri's story.
Agreed, It is disgusting that people are acting like CDPR has an agenda. She is one of the damn characters in the last game so I am not shocked she is the lead. I look forward to it. Had they added a RANDOM unknown female lead I could see people complaining but complaining about Ciri people simply do not like to see woman in power.
CD projekt has confirmed that Ciri has gone through the mutations. So excited to play this. Ciri is such a great character so really looking forward to see her embark on her journey.
It's pretty obvious the "angry people" just reacted angrily to a female MC. Nothing to do with any Witcher knowledge! In other news, I am looking forward to see some elder blood power action!! :D
It can be both. It makes no sense in the lore (women, elves and adults shouldn't be able to become mutated to Witchers) and obviously not every male Witcherfan wants to cosplay as a female Witcher for hundreds of hours, flirting with males and perhaps lesbians. I have read a person that called males insecure that complained about Ciri, the same person said in another post that she didn't play Witcher 3 because she didn't want to play as Geralt lol.... Well, if you aren't bothered by the decision it shouldn't be your problem. Not everyone has to like the same things you do like.
No where in game lore HAS IT EVER BEEN STATED WOMEN CAN NOT TAKE THE TRIALS. It's was an ASSUMPTION. Do you understand Witchers are like denominations of churches. Basically cults. They were created. There IS NO LAW WOMEN CANT BECOME ONE. It was ASSUMED. And oh wait.....CIRI POSSESSES ELVEN GOD MAGIC CHOSEN ONE DNA lmao. Yea sure but Trials of the Grasses is too much lmao.
"""Anti-woke""" grifting was always going to lead to this. They need to make their audience angry so they get views, because outrage is the only thing they can offer. And the Outrage Merchants will continue to be petty losers until enough people learn to stop trusting them.
@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation That's an excuse. Nothing changes the fact that these "grifters" are right more than half the time. If they weren't, there wouldn't be so many failures across the entertainment industry. The Witcher 4 may not be woke, but woke is an infection that shouldn't exist, nor should it be tolerated.
I am 52 and gaming and movie lover and it pisses me off how people react as soon as they see a woman in the lead. Like what is wrong with people. "OMG a woman...they are woke!!" No they are telling a story that happens to have a woman as a lead. Imagine if Alien came out in 2024 people would call it WOKE because the lead in both movies is Ripley. Same with Terminator 1 and 2.
Sorry that people want to play as attractive female characters like Lara Croft. Ciri is one of my fav characters and yes she looks kind of ugly in this trailer.
I dont mind having Ciri as the protagonist, and i even thought she looked very cool in the trailer, and that's despite me being very cautious these days whenever developers want to have a strong female protagonist. But it makes sense in this case. HOWEVER... why did she have to become a witcher? That would effectively render her infertile & destroy the prophecy of her being able to pass on the Elder Bloodline. Her becoming a witcher also seem to put limitations on her Elder blood powers. Shouldn't they instead simply have embraced her chaos magic & time travelling abilities & built the new gameplay around that instead?
5:07 people were not surprised by Ciri being the main. People are surprised by how she looks like a girl boss now. Her facial features look more masculanized, new VA with the typical girl boss sound etc. And these things happening the same time where CDP recently got caught with VERY woke hiring practices.
Only weirdos care about her face, and I say that as someone who didn't want Ciri as the protagonist. Anyone who is complaining about that is 100% telling on themselves.
What a great analysis! THANK Fn GoD you’re not talking about what they’re talking about! Analyzing faces and BS. This is the feedback that should be given. Finishing Witcher was a CHORE, the combat was so mid. Exactly my thoughts as well. Can we talk about gameplay, don’t let these simple minded gooners devolve our brains, leaving all nuance out. Gameplay matters most. More spellz yes plz Ciri. Thx! Cheers
We are not surprised it was Ciri, we are surprised Ciri as a freaking Witcher. Lore wise it's inaccurate and it will lead to a load of contradictions in the game and undermines the previous games and the books.
Or IT will be explained well. Maybe we Not start bitching and whining two years before The Game even comes Out? We don't know any Details or Plot Points.
I think you are just problematic or idk, why would that ever be a problem ? They say she undergoes the trial of grasses after tw3 ending and she would obviously survive it because she has elder blood so again why is that a problem?
@@aresdelfante1001 because you’re Illiterate. I’m very curious what the survival rate for her was and what Geralt thinks about her turning herself into a Witcher. A very sought after career choice
This the one time I disagree with the grifters I see no issue at all playing as ciri, probably one of the stronger female characters in modern video games.
@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation that part was kind of a joke. It just seems like some people whine and complain no matter what, I figured the word “grifter “ would help people think inwardly lol
They mention how in the Witcher 3 one of the endings Ciri died but not talk about how the other ending she actually fakes her death and becomes a Witcher which makes Ciri the logical choice.
It was a suprise for me because i remember when the witcher 3 wrapped up and they were saying geralts story was done etc and the natural thought was that ciri would take over but then they shot it down and were talking about having the next protag be more of a blank slate and the player would be able to create a character male or female from scratch...... obviously this was 9 years or so ago, they will have still been in the brainstorming ideas and spitballing stage back then so clearly they settled on something different... which sounds a little dissapointing to me but also very reasonable too. Of course this is the internet though and the internet does not do reasonable lol.
The reason people have issues with the selection of ciri there's bound to be a few retcons with regards to how witchers are made. The trial of grasses is only successful for male children, so an adult female doing it would require a retcon. Cdpr probably knows this and is going to address it somehow, most likely involving her elder blood as a mechanism to survive.
Yeah i don't understand why would that ever be a problem when she has elder blood so it would just be an exception and would then confirm both the canon as right and her as special without needing any retcon
I feel like all of the drama is fake. Ciri was the obvious and perfect choice, the trailer sets the tone perfectly and I'm extremely excited about this game release. All the hate is definitely coming from people who never played the games. Probably never watched the show either. Great video Matty
My friend told me few months ago that the game is going to be called the Witcher IV: elder blood and the first few hours of the story is about ciri going through a new way of trial of grasses and becoming a fully fledged Witcher with new abilities because of her elder blood…….then he told me that he was making stuff up…….but after this reveal he was closer than he realized lol.
I was surprised. I played those games to dead and read the books. It's a lore breaking concept Ciri as a full witcher so I doubted they would go that way. And I didn't find her that fun to play in W3. That being said, the changes they made to her personality, growing her up, gruffing her up, giver her more a strong Norse look. Were very smart changes. I was hesitant about this but it's already growing on me. Plus the big debate was, Ciri with a defined narrative that probably tell a really good personal story, or a build you own witcher that'll be cool and unique but the story probably won't be as impactful as a consequence. I was leaning towards option 2 but it's CD, and i love good narratives so I have no doubt this will blow my mind and win me over.
I'm honestly glad I watched that video, my immediate thought was depending on the outcome geralt might not be in the game or ciri will give him the cold soldier, if they let choices carry over. The witcher ending probably has Geralt as a mentor.
We also have The Witcher 1 remake coming if anyone wants more Geralt, it should be right after 4, also might even be the same year as The Witcher 4 because I'm fairly certain its been in pre-production for a long time.
I thoroughly agree with Matty here about gameplay. While I enjoyed the witcher world and story more than Cyberpunk's, I clocked roughly 300 hours on the Witcher 3 as compared to over 1000 hours in Cyberpunk 2077... Because ultimately, replayability boils down to character build choices and gameplay.
Seems like a pretty seemless transition to me. We even played as Ciri multiple times over the course of W3. Geralt's officially retired, and Ciri's best ending was her literally deciding to become a witcher.
I hope we can explore sorceress powers as well as signs. Looks like it might be set in the North - Kovir? Would be quite cool if she can ice skate too. Would be nice if the elves feature more as much of their content was cut from witcher 3
I think one of the benefits of using Unreal 5 is that the assets are used for both cinematics and gameplay, so I think the look will be fairly close, depending on the graphics requirements. Note they don't say what the actual generation of the graphics card that's running this.
Anyone concerned about Ciri's cinematic appearance should go and look at the Gwent cinematic trailer where Ciri appears. She looks exactly the same as here, just a bit aged.
Yeah I am pretty sure she will look more like W3 Ciri in game, just older. My only concern is the voice, I am not completely convinced based on the cinematic, but that can change very quikcly, could be just how used I am to her W3 voice. Overall I am super excited to have Ciri adventure and I absolutely loved the monster they used. Annihilation anyone?
Not liking hearts of stone is wild to me. Its by far the best narrative content in W3, probably the best thing cd project has ever written. As a full package blood and wine is unmatched though.
(Maybe minor spoilers for Witcher 3) I don’t need them to explain to me why we’re playing as Ciri. I need to know why she went through the Witcher mutations…(because she has the cat eyes and can drink the potions which are very deadly for regular people). Ciri is already a Witcher. That’s not a good argument and never has been. She was always a Witcher in all but the physical. Witchers only take in boys at a young age Ciri was already different. They went through the trials early on. Ciri was also the exception even though she was still taught by the Witchers at Kaer Morhen. She got all the positive sides of being a Witcher without the negatives. Because their way of making Witchers was so dated. Even Vesemir laments the trials and all the boys they killed. Because they weren’t murdered they were butchered. This was a big point of tension between Vesemir and Lambert in Witcher 3 because the amount of kids that died in the trials was repugnant. And while Geralt accepts what happens. Not all Witchers are like that and Lambert is one of those Witchers. Lambert may be a prick. But he’s a good man with a good heart. And he won’t ever forgive Vesemir for what he and many of the boys that didn’t make it went through. Vesemir did not want to put Ciri through that. This was an intentional choice for them. Ciri has always been a Witcher by the simple fact that she was TRAINED like a Witcher. Her father figure is a Witcher. I’m not surprised that she’s a Witcher she always has been. Also where are her time powers? Are they dormant? Is she just prioritizing the Witcher sign powers? I have so many questions. So many concerns. They would have had to play with the lore no matter what. If they were going to continue the Witcher 3 storyline… then this was inevitable. But I’m not really liking this change and the implications behind it. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know why Ciri has the medallion. I don’t know where Geralt is. I don’t know if she willing chose to undergo mutations. Maybe she knew her powers might be impacted. Maybe she wanted that. Maybe she wants the Elder Blood to end with her. Witchers are sterile after all. Literally so many questions. None of them answered. Maybe they’re saving that for the game. But I’m gonna need those answers and I’m gonna need convincing this isn’t an entirely tone deaf move and out of character.
Combat in Phantom Liberty was honestly incredible. There were sooo many different builds you could run. If they can have that type of gameplay customization with the world and story of the Witcher, could be an all timer.
I just hope the dialog will hold me with Ciri as it did with Geralt. His personality was one of the main reason I loved the Witcher . But I welcome Ciri being the main protagonist
According to a recent article it seems we may shape her personality with decisions in game, they seemed to put a focus on letting the player decide how you want to be rather than just being a goody or neutral or bad. I assume after 2077 their taking things more seriously.
@@James-u1y If they did CP77 with sidequests that actually affected the world/characters/story they can have my money. Kinda sad how the side quests never really changed the main story in any meaningful way in CP, they were all closed off with a few leaks.
@ yes I agree in terms of decision making 2077 was sorely lacking, only reason I'm slightly more optimistic is because they've talked about it after release and was one of their regrets, witcher 3 did slightly better with that but still I think they could do better. So it seems they want decisions to matter more this time I assume it's because they feel like after the 2077 disaster they know they need to prove themselves all over again, there's a recent interview article as well talking about how bad the 2077 situation and we got decent details on how their trying to change processes to prevent performance and design issues like that again, they also completed reorganized their dev teams to a new concept because before for 2077 their teams were set up like Bethesda when Bethesda made starfield and as studios grow that team design becomes more and more faulty as the hierarchy becomes a mess of management, team leads, managers, etc then you wait a month for 1 change (starfield patch sizes being a great example 3 fixes in a month wait for a patch that was fixed 1 day after release by a single modder). Sorry I wanted to share more as I did deep research to see if I would buy their next game after 2077 but I'm really tired right now its 6am for me, just know I won't be buying any game from them until 7 days after release even if it looks good, but I wanted to share that I found positive changes to their development process through my long ass deep dive into reading probably over two dozen articles after 2077.
I've only ever beat TW3 once, including the DLCs. It's just such a huge game that takes a lot of time to get through. I have a playthrough on my PS5 just sitting there, which of course I'll have to pick up again now because of this lol. I'm wondering if they'll use your witcher 3 save details to impact any of the story.
You don’t want to follow Disney by over playing characters just because the audience likes them, once the story arc of beloved characters is done, it’s done. Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides and Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales were great examples of overplaying beloved characters Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa, Mr Gibbs. Those character arcs finished at Worlds End.
The Witcher 3 set up Ciri to take the lead role. I'm perfectly happy with her as the main character for Witcher 4. As for her looks, she appears late 30s to middle aged, which makes sense if they want an old Geralt due to Witchers aging slower. Also, Geralt looked different between his CGI and in-game model, so I'll reserve judgement on how she looks for when we see her in game. The only thing I don't like at this point is that it appears Ciri undertook the Trial of Grasses to become a Witcher in more than just name. I think this goes against the themes of the third game; it showed that the barbarity of becoming a Witcher was a dark reality of the world, but with the Witcher 3 ending, there was a hope in a person like Ciri to take up the role without the barabrity of turning a child into an emotionless killing machine. This kinda rewrites that small bit of happiness/hope in a bleak world. As far as it breaking conventional lore, I'm going to reserve judgement for how they handle it in the game because a developer on Twitter has already said it's going to be part of her story. They made me a fan of the Witcher with Witcher 3, and they made me a fan of CDPR with how they've handled Cyberpunk, launch issues aside. I'm very excited for this game.
I just responded to people saying that making ciri a witcher was a slap in the face to witcher 3 players. Its hysterical reading people's comments that you can obviously see that they have no clue about the game. Ciri tried to take the grasses in the game and it was like a prelude to what they were thinking in case they continued the series.
None of these clowns care about the story they see a woman and get there tiny balls in a twist, doesn’t matter what the reason is they gotta stay mad cause they’ve failed at everything else in their lives.
I played the game and it was ok to have Ciri as a second character for like 20% of the game. Not hyped about getting an hag version of her as main protagonist to flirt with males and lesbians. And i thought women, elves and adults can't become Witchers ;) But well, if you like the choice have fun with it.
@@ge-8135Too scared to use your slurs? Gotta hide behind DEI? What happened to your beloved woke, did you get tired of using it now that it has no meaning? You people are such clowns, stay mad I guess it’s the only thing you guys are good at.
The CDPR team is amazing. I’d love for them to attempt a Mass Effect kinda trilogy. Either with Witcher or cyberpunk. I just need that in my life and i don’t see many devs/pubs shooting for that goal.
The huge detail Matty is missing is that SBI employees work at CDPR now and they’ve gone full ESG/DEI since CP2077 came out. Not buying or playing TW4.
Reason why ciri is a weird choice is because she's not actually a Witcher and cannot become one. It's a completely different gameplay style. Why not just have it so you can create your own Witcher and set it at a different point in the timeline? She doesn't need to use any of The Witcher stuff because she already has overpowered magic powers
Im not upset that ciri is the main character now but I am surprised. I was thinking it made more sense to do a prequel maybe closer to the conjuction of spheres and founding of the Witcher schools. I just think Geralt, Yen, and Ciri's stories were finished and wrapped up pretty well. Although the lead is saying that they won't upset or clearly state cannon, they'll have to address it with some finality considering some of the endings, also include whether whole countries exist or not. Just food for thought I'm excited but wary.
I feel like it's only obvious that it's ciris story. There's lots of other great stories but surely wouldn't be a mainline entry. On another note i hope the currently sunset gwent comes back. It still has so much potential
I thought people always knew that the reason we sometimes play as Ciri in TW3 was because CDPR was prepping her and us the players for her to take on the main role in TW4. I thought it was obvious.
I am so happy Ciri is the main character of 4. Her freaky powers have so much room for exploration. And if the Witcher is anything to go by, anything that is freaky is amazing. Not even she knows fully what she can do, and that is exciting to be able to even slightly explore. She's such a cool character. Far more deserving of the main character role. I just hope my PC can run the game when its out, becuase my gosh, it would be so awesome to dive back into the witcher as good ol' Ciri. And see what kind of chaos can be made.
She probably lost her divine powers to become an ugly mutated Witcher hag. Which normally would be impossible in the Witcher lore. (Woman can't become Witcher, elves can't, Adults don't survive the trial, normally). Honestly i found the gameplay with her in Witcher 3 pretty boring
Even with the not so great combat(even though I didn't mind it) blood and wines story was so captivating I couldn't put it down. Very surprised you didn't finish it matty
Cant wait and I can't understand why anyone would be upset about ciri being the protagonist. It was obvious that was the direction they where going for with the end of Witcher 3. Hopefully it won't be a mess at launch like cyberpunk im expecting at least a 4 year wait for its release.
Witcher 3 playthrough with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine asap. Hearts of Stone was incredible! Blood and Wine is even better. Also, they turned Ciri into a potato who will likely either be non-binary or non-straight. Where's that South Park Disney meme when you need it?
As someone who has never played the Witcher games happy to hear I don’t need to spend a tone of time going through the whole trilogy. Although I’m sure everyone will say I need play the first three to really enjoy it.
Why it wouldn’t be a character creator after cyberpunk? People are going to dislike this, it doesn’t matter the reason. Why split your fan base like that???
A random character makes sense for Cyberpunk but not really for The Witcher. Don't forget that Cyberpunk is originally a pen&paper TTRPG which is by design built in a way that each player creates his/her own character. Even the entire background is only built to allow GMs to create their own adventures. Not the case for the Witcher.
Ciri becomes a Witcher at the end of W3 (though she hasn't undergone the trials at that point i think). Out of the good W3 endings, its the one that makes the most sense both character wise and gameplay wise. What game would you have if she was just a princess? Geralt had his sendoff by the end of blood and wine, Ciri now being the protagonist makes the most sense to me.
@Zoombeanie132 Its not about her not doing the job of the Witcher, its about her undergoing the witcher trials dude. There's a reason they didn't do that when she becomes a "Witcher" in that ending. If all it was was her doing the job, nobody would care, but her having the eyes is in defiance of the lore.

Blood and Wine is a masterpiece. You need time for it and he says he didn't have it.
Usually the perfect balance of fun and rewarding challenge for me
Deathmarch becomes easy to after you get your set gear the game becomes a cakewalk notbiny can touch you your basically a god with set armor on
Any one who thinks this is a Dei move has not been paying attention to the story. It could not have been more obvious this was comming.

@@currywurst2434 Ehhhh Ciri has super special blood that lets her travel the multi verse. She's probably the only female who can survive the Trial of Grasses cause of her weird powers and DNA.

They have to choose a canon ending. They're choosing the ending where Ciri becomes a Witcher and unless she travels to a new continent, they have to choose who rules.
Blood and Wine literally ends with Geralt's retirement. I don't think the people upset are Witcher fans.
I do think that Ciri or a create your own Witcher were the two obvious choices. Especially after the end of witcher 3. Little dissapointed they seem to have switched her voice actor out though. Everything else about the cinematic trailer was complete hype though.
The original voice actor passed away
@@Ray-gy7tt Jo Wyatt is still alive btw people. They most likely just wanted an older sounding voice.

She is basically the main character in that literary world in a lot of ways. She is the natural choice if we’re not jumping drastically in time
She kind of was a Mary Sue in the books, any character with the "Chosen One" power inevitably is. She goes through a lot of hardships, sure, but she doesn't really do much for her power, it's just there at the most opportune time for when she needs it.
@@SekiberiusWelkesh so what does that make anikan skywalker, a Mary sam?

So happy about this. Ciri is an incredible protagonist and deserves the spotlight. I've been a huge Witcher fan of both the novels and the video games and they're not wrong. Ciri is the spotlight of The Witcher. The story was always about her both in the books and the games.
She has incredible depth and uniqueness.
I know people are going to complain about this being a social choice, but it's not. This is in line with the core of Witcher and I'm looking forward to see how we can further develop Ciri's character
nah ciri is one of the worst characters in the witcher games. Getting her killed in the witcher 3 was literally the only good ending.
@tomgu2285yeah, even the hardest difficulty is just spamming light attack

@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation That's an excuse. Nothing changes the fact that these "grifters" are right more than half the time.
Yeah
5:07 people were not surprised by Ciri being the main. People are surprised by how she looks like a girl boss now. Her facial features look more masculanized, new VA with the typical girl boss sound etc. And these things happening the same time where CDP recently got caught with VERY woke hiring practices.
What u mean man, she looks and sounds good. I think people are being paranoid.
Only weirdos care about her face, and I say that as someone who didn't want Ciri as the protagonist. Anyone who is complaining about that is 100% telling on themselves.
What exactly is a "girl boss"?
She looks older more mature that's all 😊

I have no problem with TW3 gameplay tbh.

This the one time I disagree with the grifters I see no issue at all playing as ciri, probably one of the stronger female characters in modern video games.
Yeah same
It’s like playing as Ripley in aliens. Better learn they hate female characters no matter what.
This is the only time you disagree with grifters???
@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation that part was kind of a joke. It just seems like some people whine and complain no matter what, I figured the word “grifter “ would help people think inwardly lol
Agree
The sword is not the same sword given to her.
This!!! Thank you.
It’s not about the character, Matt it’s the symbolism behind it
I feel like all of the drama is fake.
Ciri was the obvious and perfect choice, the trailer sets the tone perfectly and I'm extremely excited about this game release.
All the hate is definitely coming from people who never played the games.
Probably never watched the show either.
Great video Matty
You've just committed the ultimate blasphemy against me. "never finished B&W" and "wasn't crazy about HoS." 💀
You better play Blood and Wine. I felt the same about Hearts of Stone but the other DLC is like almost a game itself
I was leaning towards option 2 but it's CD, and i love good narratives so I have no doubt this will blow my mind and win me over.
xLetalis had a video maybe a year ago speculating Ciri was alive even in the bad ending. This was directly referenced in that ign interview
I'm honestly glad I watched that video, my immediate thought was depending on the outcome geralt might not be in the game or ciri will give him the cold soldier, if they let choices carry over.
The witcher ending probably has Geralt as a mentor.
Siri or not this is a wake up game this truth is bright as the sun
Blood and Wine was very impressive and loads of fun.
Crazy you have not played the DLCs - they are some of the best expansions to any game
It would be cool if they had a MassEffect style save game import that can customize the start of Witcher 4
the Cat potion is only effective for male witchers because female witchers have never been fully mutated
I was hoping we would get to play as Ciri. The ending I got for TW3 was her taking the path and I wanted to take it with her. Im pumped!
Not liking hearts of stone is wild to me. Its by far the best narrative content in W3, probably the best thing cd project has ever written. As a full package blood and wine is unmatched though.
I cant wait to play the Witcher 4 and the Mafia game i hope GTA six come out next year i dont know anymore
I also can't wait to play as a thot in Miami 😒
(Maybe minor spoilers for Witcher 3)
I don’t need them to explain to me why we’re playing as Ciri.
Not sure how much combat customization you can have in a Witcher game though, I guess it would be more for the spells and abilities.
Play the game on the hardest difficulty. It’s the best way to play the game because you have to prepare before fighting monster.
I've only ever beat TW3 once, including the DLCs. It's just such a huge game that takes a lot of time to get through. I have a playthrough on my PS5 just sitting there, which of course I'll have to pick up again now because of this lol. I'm wondering if they'll use your witcher 3 save details to impact any of the story.
you don't even need to know tw3's story, they already showed 4 was gonna be ciri years ago at this point
You nailed it. People mad about Ciri haven't played the games or read the books. They don't know anything about this world.
I played the game and it was ok to have Ciri as a second character for like 20% of the game. Not hyped about getting an hag version of her as main protagonist to flirt with males and lesbians.
Didnt know you liked Futbol matty! Very cool! Maybe ill give it a look as am still playing PES 21 with mods
Far MORE deserving? More "deserving" than what? Wtf are you on about?

Why it wouldn’t be a character creator after cyberpunk? People are going to dislike this, it doesn’t matter the reason. Why split your fan base like that???
Because if you are a real man you can play as a woman and like it. Shuv it.

A random character makes sense for Cyberpunk but not really for The Witcher.
Don't forget that Cyberpunk is originally a pen&paper TTRPG which is by design built in a way that each player creates his/her own character. Even the entire background is only built to allow GMs to create their own adventures.
