      Great band and music!
      Still have all their/her vinyl records from around the world up to and including Debbie's Solo career. Then cd's for 'Maria' and 'No Exit'.

  • @paintedbird
    @paintedbird 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +81

    Maria was Blondie's a big comeback single. This was the first new music the band had come out with in 17 years. It was released 98/99. The album it comes from, No Exit is really good. This was a huge song when it came out. Debbie had been a solo artist and doing a lot of film work in the late 80's and early 90's. Blondie has some many great songs. I'm glad to see you guys going back to them. Some others I think you would like: Dreaming, Slow Motion, Union City Blue, The Hardest Part, Hanging On The Telephone, Denis, Detroit 442, In The Flesh, No Exit, Good Boys, Shakedown, Undone, Golden Rod, Background Melody, Mother, What I Heard, Love Doesn't Frighten Me, China Shoes, Take It Back, Backroom, Take Me In The Night, Sugar On The Side, Long Time, Fun, My Monster, Gravity. So many great songs. Debbie's solo career has some great songs as well, worth checking into her solo works as well: Backfired, Inner City Spillover, Jump Jump, Now I Know You Know, French Kissin' In The USA, Secret Life, Beyond The Limit, In Love With Love, Free To Fall, I Want That Man, Brite Side, Rush Rush, Bike Boy, Sweet And Low, I Can See Clearly, Strike Me Pink, Dog Star Girl, Mood Ring, The Fugitive, Deep End, Two Times Blue, Whiteout, Love With A Vengeance. Debbie also worked with Dolly Parton on a version of Heart Of Glass that will be out on Dolly's forthcoming rock album, Rockstar next month.

    Blondie is one of the best bands. Love their music. This song saw Blondie getting back together with Clem Burke (drummer) and Chris Stein (guitar) after having been broken up as a band for almost two decades and Debbie went solo. Blondie ended it in 1982 and this song brought them back in 1999. A really good song and shows their staying power and talent.

    Great pick! You have wondered if Blondie has a "sound", as their sound seems to be all over the place; well, this song represents their "core sound"! After a tragic breakup in 1982, we all thought Blondie was done. Then, years later, this song appears, and we were like "Hey, this sounds like Blondie....WAIT this IS Blondie!" This song is instantly recognizable as a Blondie song. We couldn't believe it, such a great song & an epic return.
    After their breakup, they reformed the band in 1997, with most of the original members and some new faces. But they could not get a record label to sign them! So they formed their own label, and came out with their first album in over 15 years, and this song shoots to #1; their story is epic.
    Blondie was always a rock band to me; they started as a punk rock band, and I first heard them when the rock station in Houston debuted "One Way Or Another" (A CLASSIC rock song, and you guys should check it out). Their later stuff is actually the sound you've heard; Rapture, The Tide is High, those came after they established their punk rock sound. Heart of Glass was done as an experiment (another great story), and they had no idea it would become their biggest hit. But their rock sound came before the others :) This song is actually a return to their roots, 2 decades after they first formed.
    Keep rockin it guys!

    • @sophiapangloss2149
      @sophiapangloss2149 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Great comment! The other layer to that tragic break-up, alongside the inevitable and natural 'band break-up' story was Chris Stein's illness and Debbie's work caring for him, as she started her own solo career. That was the icing on the cake of their comeback, there's a deeply personal story at the heart of Blondie which I feel contributed to them being one of the best bands ever, and they have never disappointed me live.

    Clem Burke, the human metronome, great drummer! Back in the 80's they put a heart rate monitor on him to see what his heart rate was during concerts. You can guess how high it went.
    I got to stand on the side of the stage at a Blondie concert in Oakland in 1978, got to meet her, gorgeous woman, sweet.

    • @sophiapangloss2149

      And Clem Burke's work with the Eurythmics is often overlooked, he gave them great energy too, he was playing drums when I saw them play live around 83/84, post-Blondie and was in some of their later videos.

    One of my favorite Blondie songs. This different style came in at a very good time too. Late 90s/early 2000s was a time when older pop/rock groups were having a surgence. Blondie, U2, Duran Duran, etc. Bands that made charts in the 80s, were making charts again and it was exciting seeing bands we loved back then coming into a newer sound but still had that fun groove from the 80s and brought in a newer generation of fans. 😎👍

    Honestly, you have covered a lot of great Blondie songs, but have barely touched their greatest album, Parallel Lines. Literally one of the greatest albums of all time in Rock history IMO. it is pretty much one of those rare albums where every song is awesome! (This won't be a popular opinion, but I actually think "Heart of Glass" is not even close to the best song on that album.) The impact of that album when it came out was huge! You can't go wrong with anything on it, but the top songs to check out would be "One way or another, Hanging on the Telephone, 11 59, or Picture this." Definitely the album version for all these!

    I've been a big fan of Blondie for a very long time. I would like to say that you guys are the best! I'm trying to keep my emotions in check, but I've been fighting cancer since November of last year. I'm going through chemo again and want to be able to keep on listening to your amazing reviews.

    Blondie was one of the most Iconic Bands of the late 70’s & 80’s. To think where they started as a Punk Band and ventured into modern rock for the time was a testament to their diversity and willingness to change with the times. You mentioned Rapture in your summary, did you know that Rapture is widely accepted as being the first ever recorded Rap Music song (which is basically talking thru the song instead of singing vocally). Hence the name Rap coming from the title of the song.

    Not bad?? Im surprised. Its bloody awesome 😎😎 Each to their own i suppose. This was huge when it was released in her later years. Shes still got the sass here and still the brilliant Blondie sound. I saw her live back when this released and this song was so great in an arena, a lot rockier and louder. Keep up the great reactions though. 👏👏👏👏

    This was a huge hit in the UK (reaching number 1) and brought "Deborah" Harry (as she had 'renamed' herself) back together with the rest of Blondie with a bang. It was all over the radio for a while in 1999, and was also a hit in Europe, though didn't do anything on the US Billboard 100 chart. It followed on the back of her solo success in the UK, New Zealand and parts of Europe with "I Want That Man" which had also been a hit in 1988, although it also hadn't been so successful in the US.
    It's odd that, as with Belinda Carlisle's solo career, Debbie Harry's return proved less commercially successful in her home country than abroad. Funny how that can happen sometimes.
