i met john and the gang back in 2000 and man i gotta say, they were fucking amazing. i wasnt expecting to bump into them, and was perusing their merch table and realized i needed a new beer. as i trod up to the bar, not even 10 feet from the merch table john and the gang walked up to me (seemingly like they meant to speak to me) and just came up to me and started bullshitting as tho we were old pals. i didnt have anything for autograph, so they grabbed a poster from the merch table and had everyone sign it for me. needless to say i procured a new longsleeve from them after i refilled my alcohol levels. and holy shit that was a kickass show. they were really kool. i still have the pics from that night. it was really fantastic.

I'm pretty happy with this album overall, I understand that fans of this band are disappointed with the cleaner sound of the last several albums. To me though the Incantation sound is still present and still delivers quality death metal.

It's always driven me crazy that Incantation hasn't historically been regarded on the same level as Cannibal corpse or Deicide
My personal opinion, Incantation has been on a level that Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide haven't really been on for a while now. For me, CC has become a Commercial Cookie Cutter of their former selves, and Deicide haven't been Deicide since the brothers left the band. Amon crushes Deicide, even though they aren't consistent with releases and or touring.
@@ericwilliams7374 I don't know if I agree about Amon however I do think that Deicide has not been good for a while. CC is very cookie cutter right now.
The NY side of death metal is seemingly undervalued compared to the Floridian side 🤔 (Suffocation being the only outlier)

Honestly, you can't go wrong with getting any album from Incantation!!! They have been a favorite of mine ever since Onward to Galgotha!!

Incantation and Vader are the Motorhead of Death Metal. They don't make bad albums, they just make not-their-best albums. I've never put an Incantation album on and left disappointed.
One of my favorite bands. I remember being in high school and picking up Onward to Golgotha. Saw a video last week off this album and love it.

Onward to Golgotha- one of the best- saw them in the 90's at the Berkeley Square!
I want to love this new Incantation album. I definitely need more time with it, but just with them in general, I should love them, they have elements of the styles I loved for years (doom, some psychedelia), and now that I’m finally figuring out what I like in extreme metal, these dudes should basically be my favorite of all OG death metalists (not counting Death, bc that’s unfair), but aren’t, at least not yet. Maybe I just need to listen to the right album(s) by them? Maybe I just need to see them live?
That said, I do love that Expander album, or at least what I heard from it so far. Noise + experimentalish + thrash = happy me. I’ll check out the Tyranno too, bc you rarely steer us wrong.
That also said, there’s just so much good music, including non-metal shit I’m digging, and I can’t keep up, damnit! ✌️🤘♾
Seen Incantation in playing in a basement in the 90's supporting their Onward to Golgatha album..Been I fan ever since.. doesn't get more knuckle dragging death metal than these guys.

Pretty damn good album compared to the last few although I still dont like the ultra modern digital sound of the drums here. Same reason I dont like dying fetus or cattle decapitation, that computer drum sound makes it so much less brutal in my opinion.
I agree about the drums part. I personally think Profane Nexus had the edge compared to this one. However I think it’s on par with let’s day.. dirges of elysium or Decimate Christendom🤘

incantation doesn't make bad death metal. This is a cleaner album sonically but still has that sound they crafted through the years. Win.
Re: albums and DM slowing down. Cytotoxin's new one dropped, so feast your ears on some quality muscular tech death lol. Been spinning that and the latestSabiendas LP. Not released today but still a beasty record. New single from Benighted... Just look and you shall find good DM. But yeah it's annoying about slowdowns. That Carcass LP had me hoping but then got pushed back. Thankfully we will still have an EP in a few months. Better than nothing lol.

Not review related. So I was talking about this album not too long ago, and was mentioning that I had only seen Incantation once and it was in 2019. Then I got to thinking about that show. Here's the lineup, in the order they played.

SECT OF VILE DIVINITIES is the best album I have heard in a decade.
Incantation marries the power and technicality of Death metal with the Indie/ DIY vibe of OlD school punk and alternative. At least that's my take on it. They do not and will not give two shits what is happening in the music world, gonna do what they need to.
My ideal show would be a split bill of Incantation and the Melvins.

I think I will be ordering a copy of it. What I love about it is the almost old school non polished tone and mid pace. The same factors that I have heard them catching shit for from reviewers.

There is a part of Incantations discography I havent heard an a large part of that has been how sonically their albums tend to sound bad. Not saying McEntees songs are bad. Fuck they are brutal. Here lies I think the reasons why Incantation and Immolation got lost in the shuffle was because of production and mixing. Blayne said it in the review about the better production of Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel ok not better but cleaner. I didnt hear an over produced sample hear like the over produced and not mixed well works from Cannibal or Morbid. The first thing I said when the snippet played was holy shit they cleaned it up. If only Onward to Golgotha sounded like this. So my complaint is with Blayne damn
it. "Its to murky" or "you took to much of the murk off". This album sounds fucking great. I think that if Incantation and Immolation had better sounding completed albums starting with Onward to Golgotha and Dawn of Possession or within a couple of releases after the careers of these two bands would had taken a different path one resembling the careers of their Tampa counterparts.

But when your catalog already contains excellent excellent shit that incorporates a lot of doom type death metal...and then this is what starts happening. Yeah....I guess it becomes about the money for these guys at this point. Then again they’re not young kids anymore. Although it would seem the more doomy style would be easier to play as they age? Old stuff much better, which is odd since their old stuff is slower and easier to play
