    Watched 4 other videos on Bolt hitch install and yours is the most comprehensive. Well done.
    BTW our 2" Draw-Tite hitch lists 38 ft lb as the torque spec for the 6 bolts.

    Those bumper clips on the wheel well… so easy after you realize they require a push, but a pain before that. I cracked two before realizing how they work. Thanks for the vid.

      You probably shouldn't ask me how many little plastic clips and pieces I've broken over the years....

    Just ordered one to install on my bolt, ordered a 240v charger too, I've been using the included 120v for the past ~3.5 years, needless to say it's going to be a fun next couple weekends

      The harness they're selling now doesn't need to tap into any of the wires, other than power and ground

    Thank you for this simple walk-through and noting what you used. I'm more in the camp of running an extension through the hatch. This is really appreciated!

      You are welcome, glad it helped! Running the wires through the hatch is an option, but personally would bug the hell out of me as it feels incomplete 🙃

      Glad we could help. Sadly this car was totaled, but its replacement (2022 EUV) has towed a ~1,900 lb teardrop over 1,000 miles to the Grand Canyon and back, so you should have no trouble at all with short-range towing.

    What is the clearance height of the bottom of the hitch?

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I can't answer that for you because we didn't measure it and the car was totaled shortly after this was filmed. I can tell you how tall the EUV is and I will get that for you tomorrow. It is a different hitch completely though

  • @lrw-86

    That red wire that you tapped into looks really small. Can it supply enough power without overheating, etc.?

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't expect any issues, considering the car and our trailers all use LEDs. Plenty of other trailer adapters just use T-harnesses, which accomplish the same thing, piggy-backing off of whatever the factory uses to supply power to the rear lights.

    What year Bolt EV is this? Mine is a 2023 and it is different. According to the instructions for mine (drawtite hitch,) you do not have to remove the bumper fascia, just take out 2 plastic "rivets" and 2 screws to loosen it. I think the 2022's are the same as mine.

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is on a 2017 but we've also in installed an EcoHitch on a 2022 and also had to remove the bumper. I think the DrawTite might install differently.

    • @19sloper
      @19sloper ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jkfeatherranch Ok. I just started the installation. I will post a comment here if I don't have to remove it. Thanks.

      @@jkfeatherranch I did get my installation done without removing the bumper fascia. Took loose the bottom screws, and was able to pull the bumper out enough to get the hitch behind it. My Drawtite is only a Class I, and is likely slimmer than yours, however.

    The wires you used for the brakes and running light did not work for me on 2017 premier trim Bolt. Frustratingly they work perfectly as long as the trunk is open, but as soon as the trunk is shut the car switches to using a different set of running lights and brake lights and suddenly the trailer lights go dead (except the signals which still work fine). The rest of the vid is great tho.

    • @Jedidiahwiebe
      @Jedidiahwiebe 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      BTW I found the correct wires in the harness that heads up towards the roof. Same colours, just different location. They work fine.

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In order to comply with federal law, GM ran redundant sets of tail lights. The set on the hatch itself are used when the hatch is closed, and the set on the bumper are used if the hatch is open. We don't own the car car anymore (totaled...) but from what I remember, there should be two sets of wires in that general area, the one towards the front of the car that is harder to access is the one that you want.

    can't find the video on the 7 pin wiring... did you make it finally?

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just put the connector through the bumper and wired it to a 4-pin to 7-pin adapter up under the bumper. There's no power wire or break controller that way but it's a much more robust connection.

    • @poemond
      @poemond ปีที่แล้ว

    How much towing Bolt can handle? Is it even recommended?

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not technically recommended but the hitch is rated for 2,000 lbs and seems to handle it fine

    Bolt can tow 2000lbs and tongue weight 300lbs I believe

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the rating of the ecohitch as well. Technically the both can't do anything because it's not rated for anything........ But who cares

    Have you noticed any hit to your range unloaded and loaded?

    • @jkfeatherranch
      @jkfeatherranch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it depends on what kind of a road you're driving on and how much you are towing. We will be doing a follow-up going over what to expect in terms of range after we run some tests. We had a little hiccup and delay with doing that.
