Heyyyyy Kieth ....you heard my voice..read my comments and made video....🤗🤗🤗🤗.. thanks man.. Now a days we are updating all the switches in the organisation I work in....I gained great knowledge doing various 36x , 38x ,93xx.. switches.....
As I'm watching this video, I got ahead of myself and deleted the image off of the used switch I just purchased, so I've learned more than anticipated tonight about downloading images onto flash drives and copying into flash. But I'm glad I know the process now! Thanks for all you do for us, Keith!
what does the no switchport and add Ip address to that interface do? Why did you do that... Thx. I thought the purpose of a switch is to you know have a vlan and send traffic 2 different ports. Why is this a routed port... thx
Thank you for the question Nick's Garage. If needed, and individual port on a multilayer switch can be changed from its default of a layer 2 normal switched port, to a layer 3 port/interface by using the "no switchport" command on that port. Simply depends on what is intending to be done. Let me know if that helps, or if you have further questions, and happy studies.
@Keith : Use tftp... it will work without password or username.. This is how we do it office... It is easy.. We use filezilla also. You are lucky you are using 15.2. If you are downloading Denali Code, it would be way too longer... This is my experience..
When I need to download an ios image, I also found Google to be VERY helpful in those situations as well🤣. Thank you Keith for not editing the real life bumps. I found those bumps to be the juicy stuff.
Hi Kieth, great video thanks! I like to verify /md5 the images before reboot. Essential for those “Google Images”, just in case they have been tampered with.
@6:52 Keith shows you the used gear's previous owner's encrypted password... oops Remember to remove your password before you ship Keith your stuff.. hehe
Hi Manish , I believe we use boot system when we have multiple IOS image and we want cisco device to follow specific selection of image while booting up . Device gets boot up even though boot system is not used because it always search for image in flash . Hope my answer is useful to you
Thank you for the question manish kad. If there is only 1 image on the flash, that is what it will use on this model. Great point though, thank you!!! (It did boot to the IOS :)
Could you please share your IOS basic setup commands? By the way, I had to use "sdm prefer dual-ipv4-and-ipv6 default" to enable IPv6 after I updated the IOS.
I am a noobie trying to get my CCNA this year too and I have created my own IOS setup commands too as I go learning. I would like to compare what I have with what you recommend (best practice) to see how close I am.
Thank you Tore Stelzner! After I had the IP services image, that is exactly what I needed for IPv6 functionality. Thank you! Basic startup commands for the lab.... conf t no ip domain-lookup vtp mode transparent vtp domain OGIT.com enable secret cisco spann mode rapid spann port def ip routing ipv6 unicast-routing no service time log no service time debug line con 0 logging sync no exec-timeout privi level 15 exit line vty 0 15 no login privi level 15 host
@@KeithBarker Thanks for the config. By the way, good idea to configure a port with no switchport and an IP address. I had some fun with IPv6 routes pointing to one of the new switches in my network because i just connected one port without further configuration.

Rock on!
Love the realworld challenges but it was worth it as I picked up some syntax and I will check out filezilla ftp too.
This is one of those things you cannot replicate in a virtual environment. That’s why you should still need to lab with physical gear sometimes.
Thank you Jaime Rosario Justicia

Happy to do it, thanks for the feedback @BruteStowe.
I love that this is a mirror of my experience dealing with images haha.

Thank you, Keith! "reboot, reload, restart, jump, go" 😂
Thank you Pillo464!
Nice entertainment, in the real life, risky. Best Practice: don't delete the old ios, copy the new one first!!!
Rene Guerra some devices don’t have space to have both images.
Always, backup the old image.
Good call!
Thanks Keith!
Tight! Tight!!
Next time call Jeremy Ciaora...........:)
Thank you Ken. Jeremy or Ghost busters. :)

Hello, Keith:
Congratulations on the great work teaching networking. What is the screening marking tool you use? It looks like a chalk board.
The tool he's using is called Epic Pen (epic-pen.com/)
Nice content Keith !! Could you please share those cisco links of feature navigator and software d/w in comment section
Happy to do it, thanks for the feedback pravin kalake.
Keith please make video on - How to update router / switch iOS
Thank you Vaibhav Khartode
Your videos are great, I love the way you overcome issues that people would likely have.

Thank you michael mendiola!
Keith you never set the boot system image to 15.0.2 SE11.... did your switch boot up or went into rommon?

Nice demo of hotel switch config :)
Thanks! 😃
