My girlfriend is currently in the hospital having a psychotic episode. I feel for anyone that has gone through it as it is horrible seeing her like it and being powerless to help much. I feel for anyone that has had a psychotic episode I can't imagine how horrible it would be for the person.
I see her everyday after work and dont argue against any delusions she has but dont agree with them either, mainly try and help her understand as she gets very confused, although this doesnt work much and main thing encouraging her to eat and sleep as much as possible.
How long did your episode last?
My gf is on rispirodone and lorazapam at the moment been in there for nearly 2 weeks I just hope this ends for her soon

It baffles me that there aren't any examples on TH-cam of a patient suffering from catatonia or psychomotor retardation

    • @DrBethColby
      @DrBethColby  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for mentioning this. Thankfully catatonia and psychomotor retardation are much rarer now that we have medication and people present earlier. I think there must be older videos of patients with this, long before informed consent was important. I don't think a person with catatonia or psychomotor retardation would have the capacity to give consent to be videoed. Best wishes, Beth

I have seen this type of depression during a time while the person was 5 day binge drinking

Alcoholic hallucinosis is fairly rare and can occur after long-term consumption of alcohol either during or after a period of heavy alcohol consumption. Alcohol itself is a depressant of mood, but would not necessarily give psychotic symptoms, apart from with chronic use.

Hi Mam,my mind says that I cannot do well in the area where I am interested, passionate and talented..but actually I can do.
I am good at speaking English but my mind tells me that I can't speak english.
I am interested, passionate and capable to study well and succeed in IT field by studying MCA but my mind tells me that I can't study mca, don't have ability and many other negative thought regarding this.. and many more places were I am capable and good at but my mind tells I can't
So is this the symptom of depression or my personality??please reply mam I'm worried about this😢

Hi Hrithik, thanks for your post. Have you always had negative thoughts about yourself and your abilities, or is this a new thing? If you have always had negative thoughts, this is likely to be part of your personality. If this is a new thing, and you have other symptoms like tiredness, low mood, lack of enjoyment in things you usually enjoy, altered appetite and sleep pattern, and so on, this may be due to depression.
      Best wishes,
      Beth

There is something called Amphetamine Supersensitivity Psychosis. A Supersensitive brain will develop psychosis from what others would consider a low dose. My experiences of depressive psychosis were terrible. Constant teminders that my brain was sick and lying to me were helpful.

My wife was diagnosed with this but covert narcissist fits her like a glove.

I cannot comment on whether your wife has a personality disorder, but people with personality disorders often have co-existing mental disorders.

ECT is actually an excellent, safe, method of treating psychotic depression where a person is so slowed down that they are not eating and drinking and can be lifesaving. It can also be used to treat catatonia or mania.

@@DrBethColby Bullshit you just described anti-depressant withdraw. and what schizo meds do. Blaming genes is wrong too. No one has ever shown a gene that causes this.

Go easy on yourself if you're experiencing more depression or anxiety than usual. You're not alone in your struggles. Maintain a routine as best you can. Even if you're stuck at home, try to stick to your regular sleep, school, meal, or work schedule. This can help you maintain a sense of normalcy.
