People in Yunnan like to use stir-fried rice and other spices to make Zha, aka preserved food. Whether it’s meat or fresh vegetables, we will use the same spices to preserve the special local flavors. These dishes will have an intense rice fragrance and a slightly sour taste. They are very common during the farming seasons and are unique to our area. It is the best way to keep the spring.

In case people are curious what a butterfly tree is, the latin name is bauhinia purpurea. You can do a search and learn a little more about it. Other parts are edible as well. They are part of the fabaceae family of plants. They include peas, legumes, etc. Amazing diversity where Penji lives. I think most of us envy this.
In Mexico we have a similar tree called Flamboyán (Delonix regia) and it blooms around May and June. The flowers are very similar to the butterfly tree but a bright scarlet red except for one petal in white with specks of red.

I've been eating these flowers ever since I was a child. I also live in a rural village. We grow most of our food ourselves, or pick them up from the forest or neighbours. Also, we use those old equipments and stoves like that. I'm so glad to be leading a life like this. Dianxi really portrays how village life is lead in reality. I live in the town for half the year but the village life is always the best, it's tiresome yet rewarding.

I really like the earthly utensils in her kitchens, the stone grinder is the best and the pickle pots, the tree trunk chopping board, the old style stove and the huge wok. Of course the bright kitchen makes a huge difference.
She is not using any electrical items no mixy, grinder her cooking style is good she cooks healthy food .
She is having good manners respecting her grand parents ,loving the dog and her brother she is very cute and responsible girl

Glad to know that our asean neighbors eat these flowers, here in the Philippines only the flower of the hummingbird tree (sesbania grandiflora) is eaten at the Ilocos Region.

這個應該是羊蹄甲不是艷紫荊喔，羊蹄甲花開時葉片較少、花朵散生，花色較淺白。又名印度櫻花。
艷紫荊開花時，葉茂盛、花朵集中頂生、花色紫紅。
不知道這種花可以吃欸，花朵有特殊的味道，還以為有毒
