    Great video. I have been taking the Mosko Moto layering approach myself...riding with just Forcefield Armor top over a long sleeve riding short when it's hot...works perfect, super comfortable, as airy as possible. I put a super light Acrcteryx goretex jacket over that if it rains...works, but would prefer to have the Mosko jacket you have ...maybe next year. I wear the Mosko Woodsman pants over some Leatt knee and shorts protection ....very comfortable under the Woodsman pants. I throw on some super light goretex ski shell pants on top if it rains. Might upgrade to Moskos rain pants.

      @@JohnTYoung Which one do you prefer: Basilisk pants or Woodsman + rain pants?

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petrihautakangas8914 Weeeee that's a tough one. Do I know it is going to rain and be chilly or do I think it may rain but be warm and whats the terrain like? My experience is that if I know it's going to rain but just a little and not be cold (Colorado all summer long) then the Woodsman is perfect. Even if I had the waterproof overs I rarely put them on unless it's a down pour. Legs fend for themselves very well. But cold and wet sucks. Either pant is amazning and I've done tons of miles in both, the Woodsman are just more comfortable and easier to ride in.

    Hey John, in one of Mosko's videos they say the jacket is not good for pavement touring. I think good armor placement is critical for touring just as it is for off-road. Any thoughts on why the Basilisk wouldn't be good for pavement when paired with CE2 armor? Is it missing any critical features?

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can only guess that they say that because it has no armor of its own. ADV and dirt riders know to add armor if their gear doesn’t have it built in. Maybe not so much for street riders? Only reason I can think of. I eear mine out to dinner sometimes so...

    • @LukePighetti
      @LukePighetti 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnTYoung I just grabbed a Badlands set, been trying it on, can't get this armor to sit where it needs to be for the life of me, looking for a solution but I ride majority pavement. Maybe I'll wait a little bit to see how the product line works out, and if they do a second version. Or I could just go for it. I'm on the fence.

      @@LukePighetti That stinks. One of the reasons I like wearing my pressure suit under everything else. If I want a traditional adv jacket I have the Kilimanjaro jacket for that.

    Thanks for the demo. Based on your other demo video I am giving a lot of consideration to the Mosko Basilisk setup with the separate armor. I'm ready to ditch my very heavy and hot Cycleport jackets and pants that I have been wearing for many years. Its great to see that you wear shoes around the camp instead of the gay-ass flip flops or sandals that most guys wear.

      For trips that include real off road are just miserable when you can't take your jacket/armor off. This the way to go! I'll have a review of the ForceField armor up here in the next few weeks. Thanks for checking in!

    Thanks for the video. Looking at getting a pair of the pants shortly, especially now that V1.2 came out (without the leg extension zipper). For sizing of the Basilisk pants, you mentioned you are 30-32 and a size 30 fits snug. When you say you are a 30-32, is that based on your jeans size or actual waist measurements? Only asking cause jean size I am personally a 34 but when I measure myself, my waist is 36". I think most clothing companies have vanity sizing. Trying to figure out if Mosko has vanity sizing or not.

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I measure 34 but buy 32. I had the 30 s basilisks and they were too tight. I got a 32 this time and am happy

    Good stripping video! I saw some comments that I thought I could chime in on. 1.) I asked Mosko, and they told me that the next update (May-ish 2020) will have dedicated tall sizes to avoid that extra zipper on the leg that you hate. I'm 6'4" and would never need them to be shorter, so this was important to me before I am willing to drop that much cash on them. 2.) As far as the jacket not being great for touring, I'm sure that is mostly because touring riders prefer integrated armor. If you can get past that, the Superfabric material in the impact areas is super durable, better than kevlar. NASA even use it in the gloves of their space suits. The rest of it does not seem to be as much heavy duty/abrasion resistant material as other adventure touring gear that people might cross shop it with, so if you went down at highway speeds on road I wouldn't expect it to offer as much protection.
    I do wish that they would find a way to include armor pockets. I'm sure that there are other people like me that would also be willing to trade integrated armor/separate armor back and forth dependent on the type of riding they are going on. I already do this with a couple of jackets that I like now, but would love to have the e-vent tech that Mosko is using along with their liberal application of superfabric. But no matter what, I'd say that they are onto something. I don't care what vented armored jacket you are using, it isn't as breathable as having only a jersey on with armor beneath. That would make this jacket more of a contender for me, personally

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am patiently waiting for the new version of their pants to start shipping. They are that good. Maybe for the next iteration of the jacket they'll listen to us about pockets for armor! Thank you for the comments.

      Felt like chiming in. John is one of the reasons I bought the Forcefield harness and used it as the separate armor underneath other gear. While it worked really well, I found myself not liking to put it on, have a jacket on top and then rain gear if the weather was bad. I like the approach on paper, but in real life situations I just want one jacket that does everything reasonably well. The main reason is just how practical and easy it is to use. Motorcycling became like scuba diving, 30 minutes of putting stuff on just to hop on the bike, took away a lot of the joy personally.
