Hey everyone! Just a quick note that this video covers some sensitive topics. I'm sharing my personal experiences and what’s been working for me, but please remember I’m not a professional. I'm only a human being, trying my best. If anything here feels overwhelming, take care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to reach out to someone you trust or a professional for support. I’m here to chat and share, so feel free to join in respectfully. I’m excited to continue down this path so let’s keep this a safe, kind space for everyone :)
Been in ur channel since i started my ed recovery and I'm so happy to say that now i am at the healthy weight the doctor given me. I just want to thank you for being such an open influencer and one that has brought me so much comfort during my journey. All the best to you!!
As someone who’s on the same journey I appreciate that you share bits of your own journey! It makes me more motivated AND makes me feel less alone! Thank you and keep pushing 💓💓
I absolutely love that you are using what you love to do, and your future goals, as motivation for having a stronger body that will move you to those goals! When I was close to your age I wanted to attend graduate school and I knew I was not healthy enough to do so, so I used that as motivation to gain weight and nourish my brain so I could be successful. I was not linear but I got there.
Thank you so much. I only do this to remind myself of all the reasons why! Life it short, must live it to the fullest the best way possible. Proud of you for reaching your goal!
This actually helps so much girl, especially with you mentioning the calories actually! Showing that people actually need to FUEL to reach their goals! We're all in this together and would love to see what you eat in a day (especially with also studying/uni-work, do you tend to mealprep for those days? :) ) And did you make an initial jump to those calories or gradually worked them up?
I am so glad this video helps you! I actually just jumped to reach those numbers straight away. For me, it feels like I'm wasting time by adding 200-500 weekly calories. I have the appetite so why not just take advantage of it :). I do not mealprep because I always crave something different every, single day - except pastries and matcha (that's a daily thing) hehe. I do eat 5-6 times a week at my work which I am loving. However, I do consider to make a full day of eating or something like that but it'll be on reels or TikTok - not a dedicated TH-cam video. At least not for now :)
I started bulking this year for good, too and i've gained on and off 3 kilos so far. I've been under wheight my whole life, but now I want to change this. And i agree with you, i't's not easy.
Dear Katharina, thank you so much for this video. I really enjoy all the videos you make actually. Because I feel really similar in a lot of aspects and interests of yours. This summer, I also have been starting with reducing cardio en eating more fats and all. Sometimes it is hard, because I really love sports and I am quite fanatic. Also, it is still weird for me to think that less sport en more eating can be good for some people, contrary to a lot of things you see on social media of what you hear from others around you. In summary, haha, I do still struggle with things and thoughts, even though it has been quite a few years since I restricted. It is nice to know that I am not alone in this and I sincerely hope this will help you to be healthy and confident. The best of luck with everything.
I've gone through a period of bulking of sorts myself and something that really helped me when just eating more didn't was making sure I started the day with a well rounded breakfast. I went for porridge with banana & cinamon, avocado toast with egg and natural yogurt with honey. Worked as a charm for me and I hope this can inspire/help you as well :) Good luck on your journey and I hope you achieve what you have set out for yourself! Edit: just to add that boiled eggs with a glass of soy milk is an underated yet simple snack with protein and fat 😅
As mentioned, I won't turn this into a series. However, if you want an update at some point, let me know. If I left anything left unclear, ask away and I'll answer the best as I possibly can :)
Hi Katha ! I find you very fun and kind and love your content :) I suffered from anorexia during many years and still struggle with eating disorders, though your videos are honey to my ears
I really respect your trying out now to gain weight! I'm also struggling to gain weight but if I talk to someone about this most of them they can't understand or they say "you're lucky"or something like that cuz they are struggling with the opposite side 😅
How have you been able to determine your BMR and therefore know how much you need to eat every single day ? Also, how do you know your body is strong enough to handle running/lifting and just working out in general ? I am just asking out of curiosity because I know malnutrition can lead to fragile bones for example (it is my case and why I have been finding so difficult implementing exercice in my routine again). Loved the video which I found very inspiring
Bmr calculators are online literally just google it, but your TDEE is the amount you need to eat everyday to maintain weight, tdee calculators are also easy to find on google. Keep in mind higher muscle mass per someones weight is what also increases their metabolism why someone like a runner or who is very active needs more calories in just their BMR (fast metabolism).
By getting a doctor's appointment. I only trust educated opinions on that (way more than my own research) even though I worked out the numbers to be pretty accurate. I know when to incorporate exercise and when to step back from years of struggling - I've taught myself and learnt myself by essentially using my own body (the wrong way most times). So my past, history and knowledge is what I use to plan ahead :)
I don't know when It started but I have thought about it for a while (years) that something may have been playing a role into the difficulties (for me) of gaining weight. I went to get a check and my doctor confirmed that I do struggle with high metabolism - I don't remember the exact medical term for is and im unsure if it's even something he 'diagnosed' med with. I think it's both biological (because it runs in my family) but also factors like I've adapted my metabolism to be faster, due to all the running and especially that I live a very active lifestyle. Hope this helps! :) btw I'm always down for a good ice cream!
Love it! Could you maybe do a video at some point how motivate yourself to stick to your plan and push though even if it is hard (like in times when you don't feel the pressure to gain weight) Thanks 😊
I really feel for you struggling to gain the weight you want. I have an auto-immune condition that means when I am flaring, I drop weight without trying. People say they wish they had that problem, but it's not fun forcing yourself to eat when you are not hungry. I wish you all the best!
I would actually love a full day of eating video if you feel comfortable doing one as I’m on a similar journey to you and it would be nice to see someone eating the a similar amount of food to me
Loved this video! I think a lot of people would like to know more about your bulk journey. However I was wondering, did you have a set plan with your meals / calories. Or did you eat whatever you want and make sure at the end of the day that you’ve had enough?
I'm glad! I don't have a set meal plan - only a calorie target. As mentioned I first did half 'dirty' and half 'clean'. I focused on getting highly nutritious foods but also ate every sweet, pastry, chocolate etc. I wanted to reach a high caloric intake. I do not categorise food into good or bad, it's solely for the explanation. At this point I just eat whatever I want which is naturally a mix of both. I crave both wholesome, filling and 'healthy' foods just as much as I enjoy a slice of cake and pastries. It's a balance :)
Dear Katharina, Thank you for your video. You mentioned that you drink matcha. I have not had matcha yet, but I was wondering if matcha has any health benefits, and if so, what are they?
Tons! I actually haven't looked into it that much since I drink it because I love the taste. But this is some quick research I did: "Matcha is full of antioxidants that help protect your body and reduce inflammation. It also has an ingredient called L-theanine, which helps you feel calm and focused without the jitters from regular caffeine. Drinking matcha can also be good for your heart, skin, and overall immune health" :)
I think you’re doing great! Thank you for sharing, what you’re doing now is an investment for the future. My favorite sweet? Anything crunchy but I wouldn’t say no to a good challah bread or cinnamon bun
So happy to see you taking care of yourself ❤ Just remember that if we wanna live in a happy & healthy body, we need to let the body decide what is the healthy weight for it. We can’t decide it. I hope you can let your body go where it wants by listening it carefully. If it wants to go over the target you set before bulking, just let it go and if it’s not that’s okay. Someone also commented already that you should be carefully when getting weight and training since it might be hard for your joints and tendons even if you feel overall very energetic. Been there and done every mistakes and maybe won’t run never again 😢 So hope you can be wiser with that. Also when you get more strength you maybe be able to run faster, be carefully not end up getting injuries since you have a long periods of not being in a very healthy place and that might affect you in a future. I’m also a terrible example of how my body after many years of ed is now falling a part. So hope no one else will end up here…
I will always let my body decide what's right - but the matter of speaking and my overall point in this video is to take this weight gain seriously for multiple reasons as I adressed :)
Allie Ostrander made some amazing and empowering videos on gaining weight (she’s a pro runner), maybe someone can get some inspiration from her channel :)
I am wishing you the best. Be careful with running and recovery between sessions. The added weight is a strain on your joints, ligaments, and tendons. Injury risks are greatly increased as a result. Use all the feedback you can get from medical and physical therapy type personnel. Weight train with balanced muscle involvement. Gaining weight for medical reasons is wonderful but resetting goals to be extra careful for long term goals is fine also.
What's with the warning at the beginning? If someone is too mentally fragile to hear about diet and exercise I don't think they would click on a bulking video in the first place 😄
Really appreciate you sharing your intentions and thoughts! I’m still struggling with thoughts after an ED myself, and find the thought of gaining weight or eating enough fats very hard even though I might be better off a little heavier. Maybe this will be the boost and motivation I need to start a little runners bulk myself. Thank you as always 😊 Also my favourite pastry has got to be a nice cinnamon roll or the giant gifflar (If you know, you know 😁🥮)

One of my favourite savoury snacks (thanks to Japan) is actually soy marinated eggs 😅 I could eat 100s of them! Hugs

'honey to my ears' Kindest thing to say
So proud of you! Keep going

I'm also struggling to gain weight but if I talk to someone about this most of them they can't understand or they say "you're lucky"or something like that cuz they are struggling with the opposite side 😅

Sounds delicious!
Love a good cinammon bun 😊
Oohh me too 😊
Have you checked for autoimmune disease because that can be a reason why you sometimes do not gain weight?
No - but I highly doubt that's the cause :)
