The Wilson Sisters. Ahooooooooo! (wolf cry). That was my all time favorite Beatles 45 rpm record; I Feel Fine. Loved how you sang out that first guitar note here Nancy! Great upload!
The opening of "I Feel Fine" was actually kind of a mistake for The Beatles. The lads were in the studio one day and John set his hollow body guitar down right in front of Paul's amp while the guitar was still turned on. Paul hit a note on his base and the vibration of that note set John's guitar to start feeding back, making that famous twang sound at the beginning. The boys liked the sound, the record company didn't, so John and Paul snuck back into the studio later that night and reproduced it and recorded it so they could use that somewhere. They decided to stick it in as the opening hook on "I Feel Fine" and somehow got it past the label guys and onto the record. If you listen to the song, pay attention to the very first sound you hear. That sound is a single note played by Paul, followed by that famous twang, but you can clearly hear the bass note first if you know what to listen for. True story!
Just listened to the Nazereth song. It's not identical. This is just a generic "gallop" riff employing the triplet. Half of all Iron Maiden songs use this. It sounds good, but it's not novel or complex enough for Nazereth to claim some sort of ownership over.
I'd say that Joni Mitchell, Nazereth, Iron Maiden, and Heart probably all got this from Rossini. Seriously, it's an old school riff that can't really be attributed to anyone. Still, I'd say Rossini is probably why it popped up so much in the sixties though eighties.

My first song that really made me want to figure out how to make music and figure out how it was all put together music was "Come Together." Thank you for showing that woman can rock just as hard as the guys.
If they didn't borrow this riff from Achilles Heart's drummer definitely borrowed the beat from Bonham. No great shakes. Both legendary bands. Both great songs.
That rhythm is a simple gallop. Half of Iron Maiden tunes use it. With Barracuda, its all in the tone. That said...The Horses should Lawyer up and definitely Sue! ;D
I was 17 and driving cross-country, summer of 1979, and stopped at a Denny's in New Orleans. The only other people in the place (it was about 2am) was this group of about 9 people around a big table. They invited me to join them and it turned out to be Anne, Nancy and some crew. They had just done a show in town. It struck me that they were "real, regular people". No huge "Rock Star" attitude. We all sat, eat and chatted for over an hour before we all went our separate way... I was so enamored I didn't even get autographs...!
1990 UK Heart Brigade Tour,i had seen Heart on the 2 previous shows in my Home town but travelled to Bournemoith to see them,i was outside the venue just looking out to sea when the Heart Tour Bus pulled up,i saw them get out and walk towards the stage door and i strode over and started talking to Ann who was walking with Mark Andes,i asked Ann if i could have her Autograph but i only had my ticket on me from 2 nights previous she signed and lookesd at the ticket and said you'vee seen us before?,yes i said yes about 7 times now but saw you 2 nights in Birmingham and have my tickets for your 3 Nights at Wembley London, wow you are a real fan she said,on the Final Night i saw Ann after the show and she opened her arms and hugged me saying Thank You for Supporting us,i asked if i could have a pic taken with her and she called nancy over to be in the pic too, what a memorable Tour that was.
I've always thought they've stood the test of time very well. Many rockers don't even make it to 60, and here's two awesome women who can still blow away women half their age in brains, beauty and in straight up being able to rock. Rock on, sistas!! 😀
My dad played bass and his favorite band was Nazareth. I used to listen to him play and sing in his room. This flight tonight was one of his favorites. In his later years he started playing barracuda. And boy was it badass listening to pure bass. I wish i could sing and play at the same time.
"The band had more discipline than I ever would and I love them for that... But every song sounded like they were on bloody horse back". Ozzy remembers iron maiden opening up for him.
Nancy is no slouch either when it comes to fingerstyle and rhythm. Have been playing guitar for close to 40 years, and I still can't play the intro to Crazy On You as well as her.
@@tommyfender1968 I don't even think they were that good when he was in the band either. "Sing Child Sing" by far their best song. Everything else was just second rate.
It's a musical component for any riff. If Horses can't galop, they would walk in quarter notes. Just like a human or a train would run in eighth notes.
Joni Mitchell's "Flight Tonight" sounds like Led Zeppelin's "Gallo's Pole". Nazareth's cover intro sounds like Queen's "Keep Yourself Alive". "Barracuda" also sounds like Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand". Lesson..... Everybody is "inspired" by something.
The similarities with "Achilles' Last Stand" always struck me - especially the rhythm section during the guitar solo. Very clearly inspired by Zep there. Surprised she didn't mention that!
Yeh they never really recovered from Roger being fired , but what choice did they have? He was brilliant . But the girls shined bright . Always a great show .
Funny, when she said that they were touring with Nazareth AND Queen, I tought she would say that she borrowed the riff from the song Keep Yourself Alive XD

My mother father had two sets of records, my had the Rolling Stones and my Mother the Beatles, i fell in love with the Beatles, and wore those records out. My first song that really made me want to figure out how to make music and figure out how it was all put together music was "Come Together." Thank you for showing that woman can rock just as hard as the guys.
I was expecting her to say Achilles Last Stand by Zep
Me too!! Especially cause they idolized zeppelin.
Same here, the first time I heard it I immediately said... They lifted that from Achilles! lol
no shit. the song, which i do like, is a total rip off. TOTAL! with whole lotta love breakdown to boot.
It's a gallop. She might as well said they lifted it from Bonanza.
If they didn't borrow this riff from Achilles Heart's drummer definitely borrowed the beat from Bonham. No great shakes. Both legendary bands. Both great songs.
Well.. At least shes honest about the origin of the riff :)... No surprise there. Nazereth has a bunch of killer riffs.
Nazareth borrowed the riff from someone else I'm sure.
Everyone is "borrowing" riffs from everyone else.
achilles last stand.
@@47and28 yup
WOW! For a woman born nearly halfway into the past century, Nancy is stunningly beautiful.
I have.watched vh1 storytellers in late 1990s.both Annie &Nancy were stunning,first women of rock,
Ann was super hot in 76.
I've always thought they've stood the test of time very well. Many rockers don't even make it to 60, and here's two awesome women who can still blow away women half their age in brains, beauty and in straight up being able to rock. Rock on, sistas!! 😀
@@daviddb4858 x 3 my boy
@greenmean1 Which one ? :)
They played at my high school in 72 or 73 , was such a long time ago !
Such a class act! Lady that is so Beautiful as well. Nazareth they should have taken it as a compliment instead.
Eric Challender Great point. As I wrote in my comment imitation is the best form of flattery so Nazareth had every reason to take it as a compliment.
When These Dreams came out, I'm like...wait...this woman sings too? So much talent in one family. Lovely stuff.
Next to being a great guitarist, she still looks amazing!
Totally does, it has like a gallop to the drums like Achilles.
I am sorry but I disagree
She is a less than average guitarist
Hey Nancy, Ed Myronik in Vancouver passed a couple years ago. He mentioned you a lot. Talking about the libra sunrise guitar and others.
My dad played bass and his favorite band was Nazareth. I used to listen to him play and sing in his room. This flight tonight was one of his favorites. In his later years he started playing barracuda. And boy was it badass listening to pure bass. I wish i could sing and play at the same time.
She has such a beautiful, musical voice too! (yeah, I know she sings but her speaking voice is so nice!)
Drums, guitars, vocals....all of it made this song.
Exactly
The ONCE IN A GENERATION FACTOR about this band is still Ann Wilson’s voice. WOW!
Much respect for this woman ! I loved her playing and those Gibson Nighthawks as well !
"The band had more discipline than I ever would and I love them for that... But every song sounded like they were on bloody horse back". Ozzy remembers iron maiden opening up for him.
:)
Nancy Wilson is so sweet and so naturally talented.
Btw there was also a Black Nancy Wilson too during the 60's..I had her Don't Look Over Your Shoulder single, the only Sedaka-Keller written tune.
Amazing band, amazing women, amazing talents!
What a charming and pleasant woman. Such an appealing personality.
She’s a thief who steals music - sheeesh!
Saw Heart in Nov. 1985 in New Haven, CT - my first concert - It was spectacular! The lovely Wilson sisters ROCK!
Still incredible and beautiful! What a great musician she is and singer!
I saw Heart in Seattle on New Year's Eve of 1982.
She’s still absolutely gorgeous! Hands down!
Her guitar playing skills are epic.
@Steve SmithBroadFU I said her guitar playing , not song writing.. sheeesh.
Magic Man. 1975. I was a little 'younger' back then...what a great song. Excellent band.
Her impression of the beginning of "I Feel Fine" was perfect! 😄
Refreshing to see a musician admit to borrowed material, Ann and Nancy not only rock but appear to have class as well
Everything was 'borrowed' from the masters.
It would be but Roger Fisher came up with that riff. The Wilsons dont like him so they never credit him with it.
The brilliance of Roger Fisher, that's where that guitar tone came from, Nancy.
yeah I'm sure she knows that
Damn skippy!! The band sucked as soon as he left
Nancy is no slouch either when it comes to fingerstyle and rhythm. Have been playing guitar for close to 40 years, and I still can't play the intro to Crazy On You as well as her.
Cannot forget Howard Leese as well.
@@tommyfender1968 I don't even think they were that good when he was in the band either. "Sing Child Sing" by far their best song. Everything else was just second rate.
People forget what a wonderful guitar player Nancy Wilson is, she is a rocker.
The opening riff from Crazy On You is the best acoustic/electric intro in Rock history. I'll die on that hill.
The genius behind their best songs, solos and other riffs is this man. th-cam.com/video/ATaS7o9C_qY/w-d-xo.html
Loved them in the '70s and love them just as much today. I went to 3 of their concerts. Awesome! ❤️
I LOVE Heart!! I still listen to all their songs especially on video in TH-cam.
If anyone invented that riff it was Horses. Can't really steal " The Gallop ". Even that old country western show Bonanza started with that riff LOL.
HA!!! You're right. ;)
It's a musical component for any riff. If Horses can't galop, they would walk in quarter notes. Just like a human or a train would run in eighth notes.
I know I know they’re sisters but it’s amazing how Nancy sounds just like her sister.
Crushing on Nancy since the 70's and proud of it! All hail Heart!
What a fabulous lady.....love her abilities to make that guitar really move!
3:23 - ask Roger Fisher and get him back in the band! He can still get that sound and tone - he made it happen the first time!
Yeh they never really recovered from Roger being fired , but what choice did they have? He was brilliant .
But the girls shined bright .
Always a great show .
Heart = the GREATEST band to come out of Seattle.
Funny, when she said that they were touring with Nazareth AND Queen, I tought she would say that she borrowed the riff from the song Keep Yourself Alive XD
I was thinking the same and its possible
Ya me too
She is such a liar. she had the LEAST to do with Heart of any of the members
When you said that, I had a listen. Keep Yourself Alive intro sounds like an influence on Even It Up intro! Compare: Queen: th-cam.com/video/JofwEB9g1zg/w-d-xo.html Heart: th-cam.com/video/XLhxF-Un39k/w-d-xo.html
@@blakewallace4655, You know this, because?
My Mom married one of Nancy`s school mates . I can see why he liked liked her so much . He actually made a stained glass piece for her . Nancy`s name was etched on it . A owl really cool piece.
Had a crush on Nancy back when they hit the scene. And then another one ten years later. Hell, I'm crushin' on her again seeing her here. God bless Mr & Mrs Wilson for giving us Ann and Nancy.
