So glad I was able to see Lou Brock, Bob Gibson , Joe Torre and Ted Simmons many times as a kid. The real Cardinals!

My man Sweet Lou Brock! One of the all time great ball players & one of my favorites. He was an even nicer guy. Friendly, engaging and always had a smile. In 1982 at the Old Timers game at the Kingdome in Seattle I met him outside gate B with my dad & got his autograph. The Seattle Times sports photographer took a picture of that moment and it was on the front of the sports section on Monday, Lou, my Dad & me.

Lou Brock bats lead-off on the all-time Cardinals team ever out in Left Field. His stolen bases turned singles and walks in to doubles. His rattling of pitchers daring them changed the momentum of ballgames. He could hit for power but changing his stroke away from power was the difference maker between being average at best with the Cubs to an elite ballplayer. I was one of the many in 1964 who could not believe the Cards traded their best pitcher at the time Ernie Broglio for Brock. Brock saved his best for his world series play in 1964, 1967, and 1968. I also remember he made his last year in 1979 a good one and went out on top. Following the end of his career he became a well loved community person residing in St. Louis. Lou Brock is now a St. Louis Cardinals legend.

@@josecarranza7555 I just looked up the stats for Ricky Henderson. I would compare Brock's career with the Cardinals to that of Ricky Henderson who is in the HOF. What do you think of Ricky Henderson? Actually, the Cards player not in the HOF that I wish was is Ken Boyer who I compare with Ron Santo who is in the HOF.

Here are players I wish were inducted into the hall of fame, Steve Garvey, Gil Hodges, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Omar Vizquel, Curt Shilling.
It gets me upset that they’re not in it.

One could just as easily criticize babe ruth’s HOF credentials because he didn’t steal many bases. One would be just as ignorant to do so. I can understand this ignorance from those who don’t appreciate the game’s history because today the HR is paramount. But lou was a star on a several world series teams and they got there in large part because of his defense and base running.

No way José, he didn't need to 'hit many homeruns', he led his team to three World Series, winning two of them, the same amount of rings as Mays (660 HR), Aaron (755 HR) and Bonds (762 HR) combined.
