  • For some people, nights aren’t a time of relaxation, but of restlessness, strange sensations, and even pain.
    These are the symptoms experienced by sufferers of Restless Legs Syndrome, or RLS. RLS is a sensory and motor disorder that can impact a person’s ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, or remain still for extended periods of time.
    Also known as Willis-Ekbom Disease, Restless Legs Syndrome is considered both a neurological disorder and a sleep disorder. The condition causes uncomfortable sensations in the limbs, as well as an overwhelming urge to move in an attempt to gain relief from those sensations.

      Get a prescription for Requip (generic ropinerole), this is a life saver for me. After taking it, relief begins 30 - 45 min. Side affects drowsiness ( makes you sleepy), if you haven't eaten in a few hours, then be sure to eat a snack before taking. If you don't you will have nausea.

      It's easy to put it down to growing pains which can be very painful for some children so seeing your doctor for an actual diagnosis may help. These experts really did an excellent job explaining all aspects of RLS. I hope that you all are coping well. If you aren't coping and your sleep is affected there are medications that your doctor will know about and will tell you if any are appropriate for your age/s. My medical history is extensive and it's left me mainly bedridden and so I am diligent about moving my feet but whenever I get up its sends pain right through both of my feet. I also get plantar fasciitis. I'm taking natural magnesium tablets and when it's really bad I spread a magnesium oil onto my legs. I hope this is helpful to someone.

    I am a 32 yrs old male. I have not been diagnosed with RLS but my symptoms is very consistent with the symptoms described by this video and many medical articles i have read about RLS. My Symptoms started when i was around 16 with my arms and legs where i have this “creeping” annoying indescribable feeling where i must flex and stretch in weird positions in exchange for a few seconds of relieve. I have scared people that i shared my bed with when i would be up in the middle of odd hours looking like someone possessed from the exorcist while doing my stretch and flex. My legs would twitch a lot and the movement is enough to wake myself up. This weird creeping sensation had traveled to different body parts of my body throughout my life and It disappeared when I was around 28 or so. This specific location of this sensation can be triggered by me just thinking about that sensation at that body part. I have flexed and stretched consistently enough to cause muscle aches. Two months ago, I had a grade 3 sprained ankle that involved tearing of multiple ligaments. As my ankle recover, my twitchy leg reappeared but i had no problem sleeping. About a month ago, i have a back pain that is consistent with a rhomboid muscle strain. The majority of my back pain went away but it seems to have invited my restless feeling back into my life. It has been around two weeks and counting. I would wake up religiously around 1am and would not be able to fall back asleep although i am extremely tire and sleepy. It is 2:17am right now and i am currently experiencing the symptoms of RLS on my upper back. I am only writing this long comment because I cant go back to sleep wishes to keep my mind off the “feeling”. I will go see a doctor when this covid 19 pandemic goes away. Hope everyone is well.

    I started getting it when I was around 8 years old, I'm now 54. I complained as a child and doctors would just tell me I'm too active and my legs are tired. At that time doctors just didn't get it. As I got older I tried every medication this doctor mentioned and nothing worked for me. I was a ballet dancer until I had a back accident, herniated 6 disks and now have to take painkillers basically every day. The first time I took the pain medication at night, I just started to cry. It was the first time I had ever experienced not have that awful sensation in my legs. I hate to say this but now I cannot live without being on this opioid. I don't care that I'm addicted to it. I need it to get rest and sleep. I don't know why more doctors don't take this disorder more seriously. Mine led to depression, frustration, irritability, and I could not share a bed with anyone. I had no quality of life and always dreaded what I knew I was going to experience once the sun went down. Why did it take 6 herniated disks to be given a medication that actually worked for me? I don't believe anyone who does not experience RLS can even imagine the level of discomfort and the symptoms we have. They feel we are just complaining about nothing because it only happens at night and it is literally unexplainable, nor can you see anything. I was fed up with being told to take warm baths, stretch before sleep, and other ideas doctors suggested. I would have paid anything to have a doctor feel the awful sensation that I had to deal with from a young girl to a middle-aged woman. It is a crazy disorder but it does exist and should be taken more seriously.

    I have restless leg syndrome since I was a kid. I use to wake up crying and I would tell my grandma, but she didn't know what problem I had. I found out about this medical problem later in my adult life. I notice that eating healthy foods and exercising your legs or whole body tends to help me easy my problems with restless legs. I also take a B complex and iron supplement to help with my problem it seem to help me. They say that a lack of this supplements can cause restless leg syndrome, and also some weman when they are pregnant can have restless legs but only temporary unlike me and other people with this condition.

    I find that using something like peppermint oil on the legs helps me a lot. The tingle of the peppermint helps distract me from the tingle of needing to move the leg. It becomes nearly painful when I attempt to keep the leg still by having someone hold it down. It's so weird. I do remember having RLS when I was in a long car ride. I have it in arms and legs as well. A sleep study diagnosed mine. During the study I moved approximately every 90 seconds, all night. Not hard to see why we're so tired all the time. And how much REM sleep can you possibly get in that condition?
    Mine feels like right before you get a cramp in your calves, you feel it coming, but it's not quite there. Definitely worse when I'm overly tired.
    Something that helps mine is a shiatsu leg massager, like they have at some nail salons. It has a kneading motion that helps.
    I do have a prescription,but I hate the drowsy feeling it gives me the next day.

    I have suffered from restless legs syndrome for many years, as soon as I go to bed it starts. My legs jerk violently and I get the sensation of insects crawling under my skin. I try to sleep but it is impossible, I sit on the edge of the bed and I hope it will pass. It never does. I am forced to get up because I know it will not stop. I walk about downstairs and I try to find something to take my mind off it. After a couple of hours and yet more Paracetamol I return to bed and try once more to try to get some sleep. This has gone on for over twenty-five years. I have seen doctors and specialists and I have tried herbal remedies, but none of them have helped. Many doctors don't believe in restless leg syndrome and the ones that do offer little or no help. I am now 77 years of age and in very poor health so I could do without this torture every night.

    There's also a very strong association between opioid & alcohol withdrawals and RLS. Throughout the pandemic I formed an alcohol habit, and when I dropped it I had RLS for about a week and then it gradually went away.

    • @FrotLopOfficial
      @FrotLopOfficial ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking a bad diet is the #1 cause of RLS, specifically vitamin B, iron and magnesium will cause this (as well as depression).
      People, just eat right, drink water, and go for a walk every now and then. It goes away! I had RLS for 20 years. The kind that causes insomnia. It stopped once I started taking back my life. Not drinking alcohol, not vaping, going on walks and eating right. I dont even remember when it went away tbh. I went from tapping my feet like 99% of the time I am awake to not even realizing I stopped. My GF was the one who noticed and it blew my mind lol

    • @sunburntsatan6475
      @sunburntsatan6475 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrotLopOfficial I think your response raises good points but ultimately RLS can be a very variable condition. For me, I supplement regularly with potassium, magnesium, and iron (on occasion only, since I'm a male). At this point I drink alcohol mildly 1/wk but I still have RLS occasionally. I suspect it's due to my medication, bupropion, which is itself a treatment for my depression. So you're definitely not wrong but I think it's more of a "your mileage may vary", since RLS is so poorly understood. Antihistamines, e.g. Zzzquil or Theraflu, are ABSOLUTELY a major cause of RLS on the occasion I use them due to their action on sodium channels. But for me, dietary improvements and even twice daily walks haven't eliminated my RLS though it has helped to a degree

    I believe my RLS is related to certain medications and possibly tied in with my fibromyalgia. RLS was never a problem for me when I was a teenager or young adult. I experience an almost overwhelming urge to move my legs and arms, with the physical sensation being felt squarely in my knees and elbows.

    Restless leg syndrome is torture... I feel it throughout my body not just my legs.. For me it is an immense pressure that never lessens.. If I don’t have my mirapex forget it. There will be no rest,no laying down,no sleep forget about even sitting until it decides to stop. If you can sit you are sitting there rocking your body back and forth trying very hard not to lose it..Also doesn’t help when you have arthritis, fibromyalgia, stills disease and all you wanna do is sleep but you can’t and your in immense pain..which a lot of ppl who have restless legs/limbs have as well..It can make it incredibly difficult to concentrate or think straight at all. Hold anything or try to do anything..Because if I try to use my hands for anything the pressure just builds so much you want to throw whatever is in ur hand across the room..It takes A Lot of strength and going through hell to try n get my brain elsewhere.. One of the reasons I like dramas or anime.. (other than just loving them)I have to try and fool my brain that I just need to read & concentrate on the subtitles.. Restless leg syndrome is not just sitting for a little bit maybe just moving your leg a little..It can be hours of torture of standing for who knows how long jerking your hands,arms,legs, whole body for possibly hours and hours along with the metal torture and pain unable to concentrate let alone think straight just Balling your eyes out... With ppl who think your possibly making it up or Exaggerating because it’s not like the life threatening ones and you can’t see it unless your with them when it happens..And it doesn’t only happen at night it can happen whenever it wants..Try dealing with all this for years and years and years..But yeah this is the Hell that is restless legs or as I call it restless limbs.. lol
    Edit: Wow when he mentioned the iron problem I’m also Anemic and get iron treatments.

    I'm that weird person who changes my sleep schedule everyday, I wake up at somewhere from 5:00 AM-8:00 AM but when I wake up at 5 or so I often don't have enough time to continue sleeping and my body really just doesn't wanna sleep even though I only got 6 hours of sleep one night and stayed up for 17+ hours. I also change positions every moment I'm a literal clock minute hand in my sleep, you'll literally see me at the other end of my bed halfway falling off in the morning! And I go to sleep I'm that side position cause sleeping on my back increases my chances of sleep paralysis and I remember the last time it happened and I hate it.
