00:20 What Is Restless Leg Syndrome - Symptoms
    02:27 Restless Leg Syndrome Causes
04:06 Restless Leg Syndrome Treatment To Stop Symptoms Causes Immediately
    WHAT IS RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
Restless leg syndrome or RLS, also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a common condition of the nervous system. It is very common and affects at least 2% of the population. done
It typically causes an overwhelming urge to move your legs and an uncomfortable sensation in your legs. The sensation may also affect your arms, chest and face.
It's been described by some as:
Tingling, burning, itching or throbbing. A "creepy-crawly" feeling. Feeling like fizzy water is inside the blood vessels in the legs. A painful cramping sensation in the legs.
These unpleasant sensations can range from mild to unbearable and are usually worse in the evening and during the night. They can often be relieved by moving or rubbing your legs. Some people experience symptoms occasionally, while others have them every day.
People with Restless leg syndrome may find it difficult to sit for long periods of time (for example, on a long train journey). More than 80% of people with restless leg syndrome also have periodic limb movements in sleep or PLMS for short. If you have PLMS, your leg will jerk or twitch uncontrollably, usually at night while you're asleep. The movements are short and repetitive, and usually occur every 20 to 40 seconds. PLMS can be severe enough to wake you up. The involuntary leg movements can also occur when you're awake and resting.
    WHAT CAUSES RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
When it comes to understanding the causes and treating Restless leg syndrome, there are two major categories primary and secondary.
Primary Restless leg syndrome is where there is no identifiable cause, it tends to start at a much younger age and there is often a positive family history in around two thirds of patients.
Secondary Restless leg syndrome is where there is an identifiable process driving the condition, so treatment is aimed at addressing the underlying cause as well as managing symptoms. There are many things that cause Secondary Restless leg syndrome, if you would like to know more about these visit the following NHS link: www.nhs.uk/conditions/restles...
Now before we run through the tips that can help with Restless leg syndrome its super important that you first speak to your healthcare professional to make sure there are no underlying health conditions, once you’ve done that feel free to try any of these tips.
As mentioned in the video here are some helpful exercises on the NHS page: www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise...
As mentioned in the video here is a really useful caffeine calculator, the page is designed for pregnant women but I find the caffeine calculator tool really helpful - www.tommys.org/pregnancy-info...
SEEKING MEDICAL ADVICE FOR RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
If any of these lifestyle tips do not work for you or if you have any concerns about the frequency and severity of the symptoms described earlier, you may need to speak to a healthcare professional.
Some people with Restless leg syndrome never seek medical attention because they worry they won't be taken seriously. But Restless leg syndrome can interfere with your sleep, cause daytime drowsiness, affect your quality of life and even cause anxiety and depression this is why its so important to Talk with a healthcare professional if you think you may have Restless leg syndrome.
The charity Restless Leg Syndrome UK also provides really helpful information and support for people affected by restless leg syndrome. They may be able to put you in touch with other people in your area affected by the condition - www.rls-uk.org/

My RLS feels like ocean waves that come and go on a horrible cycle about 15 minutes after laying down for bed. At first I'm tired and can almost fall asleep, but then the waves begin. It's a feeling of this weird sensation of wanting to jump out of my body like some electrical nerve shock that gets stronger, then backs down. Moving my legs, tossing and turning seem to help temporarily, but the waves never stop. I usually have to get up and go eat something and walk around for a while to make it stop. It's a horrible feeling for those who suffer from this and I have for over three decades. I'm perfectly fine all day. It's only when I go to bed. The ONLY time I slept still like a baby is when I had Vicodin on hand due to a cyst removal on my back for pain. It was wonderful, but they can't prescribe Vicodin for RLS because it's a narcotic. But hey, it worked! Yet, they'd rather have people suffer all their lives. Go figure.

Stimulants actually help me, but it really depends on the type of RLS you suffer from.
There's a few mechanisms. From what I Geneve, the most common one is dopamine deficiency, or a problem with its uptake/transfer? (Not a doctor, just a sufferer). But there are at least two more leading to lack of oxygen in muscles.
Be careful when suggesting sleep to rls sufferers, you might get a sore nose...

An excellent video Abraham, many thanks indeed. I used to suffer from RLS a lot about 15 - 35 years ago, the only thing that helped was: Slightly bending whichever leg was affected, gently lift the opposite leg then pushing all my weight onto the RSL leg and gently bending it repeatedly for about 3-5 minutes. A little like stretching the affected leg I suppose.
That always works for me. A few months ago I had the same problem in my R arm while I was in bed. I used the same way to stop it: Push the outstretched arm hard against the wall, then gently bend it repeatedly 3-5 minutes. It really does work.
Very many thanks Abraham, and as I always say….you’re a 💎

I can say that I had a similar issue or even the "Leg Syndrome" I didn't know in the past about this issue, I had a feeling to move my leg, not really a pain, I was just feeling to move my leg. Of course, if you will remind or think about this issue the human will feel it more present than it already is if I move my leg once I would feel the need to move it, but this doesn't happen all the time, and recently I didn't have any problem about this.

I have tried everything, including all the super duper things mentioned in this video and none of them come close to solving the problem for me. Sometimes, my RLS generalizes to my whole body. It is so bad at times that I feel I would do just about anything to get out of my body. It is far beyond an annoyance. I take pramipexole. If I miss taking a pill at the right time, the suffering sets in until the medication kicks in. That means I will be pacing the floor. No sleep. Sometimes for hours. An additional issue with the medication is that it causes insomnia. Initially, it puts me to sleep. Then it wakes me up. Also, once you start taking it you have to continue or go through a massive dangerous withdrawal or a slow uncomfortable taper down, and you have to up you dose over time to get the same relief. My doctors don't help much. They just tell me that RLS is not well understood. I also have degenerated discs in my lower back and neck and ADHD, which likely aggravate the issue. The name of the syndrome makes it sound so minor. It is anything but minor.

My RLS sounds very similar to yours - 20+ years. I take carbidopa-levodopa (sinemet), combined with gabapentin. For bedtime, the gabapentin works faster than sinemet. Another #1 amazing aid to relief and sleep is a sleep/anxiety med called hydroxyzine hcl - i literally take just a half pill (or less) and all symptoms quickly disappear and sleep comes suddenly and quickly. Nothing works every time, but most of the time - yes.

It is sugar. Its also carbohydrates like bread and pasta. I have them really bad. If I eat a clean keto diet, with lots of magnesium and potassium. I also take 500mg of bentiamine, with a a multi B then I don't get them. All these vitimines help ro metabolis carbs, or sugar.

They are called dopamine agonists. Avoid them. But please see your doctor. You shouldn't suffer this alone. I've had it for 40 years so I know a bit about it. Good luck 👍

I find magnesium makes a big difference. I take a magnesium supplement and also use a magnesium and lavender spray directly on the worst areas when the symptoms are at their worst. The combination between the spray, and probably also getting out of bed to go use the spray, can give me enough of a window of decreased symptoms in order to get to sleep at least.
I always feel that the name 'restless legs' is very minimising and misleading because I get the symptoms in the rest of my body too, not just my legs. I have a couple of other conditions and always notice that the restless legs/body is worse when my fatigue from those other conditions is worse. I'm also in a wheelchair and mostly bed bound and nobody tells you what to do when the one thing that is supposed to help the most (getting up and moving around/exercise) is something you can't physically do!

I am 59 years old and have had RLS since I was a kid. In Australia, the medical fraternity know nothing about it. 16 years ago, I was prescribed opiates for pain management. This also provided total relief from RLS. I get it in both legs, my right arm and the right side of my face. I have RLS 24/7. I would rather not have the opiate addiction but without it, I would gladly remove my legs or pull the pin. I can not get any help at all in Australia.

My Mom and family didn’t realize what the problem was, and didn’t think of talking to the doctor. Now still at my age I am on 2 medications, sometimes I have to double up on the dose. My doctor doesn’t believe me. She wants me to take one pill a day, if I need it. Needless to say I did tell her different. She still says try it. I know exactly what will happen
