Funnily enough, this version is the canon story. I'm not sure why exactly other than the wisps in this appearing in the future titles, but I believe it's something to do with one of the side characters referencing this game, and they're only present in this version. So by default, Sonic Colours DS is the "True" experience
Sonic colors ds is underrated. It even has big the cat. This is the game I grew up with mostly on the ds. My brother almost got a crappy spiderman game instead of this game. Glad he did because I got to play this game a lot! I love it and this is the rush 3 we got but didn't acknowledge. I actually remember playing the multiplayer with my brother a whole lot. Thanks for reviewing my childhood sonic DS game! It was a pretty fun ride tbh and the creative touch definatley adds to the review so i say it's worth the effort for sure. Still i don't even remember how i got the last emerald. Because at the time i don't remember using the wiki so hearing how to get it makes me laugh. Also yeah, some charm was lost for the Gameplay, but i'll say this. I prefer the DS version. Hardly many people talk about the ds version or just add a little foot note about it but the DS version just does the game better. No 6 stages, No cringe, More cameo's better story(even if visually it looks worse) and lastly an actual ending because if you didn't know the Wii also implied a similar thing. @I Am Sonichu !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! exactly, and yet almost no one seems to ever talk about this version of the game whenever they review or do a playthrough of sonic colors, most of it goes to the console version instead and its given me the impression that the ds version of sonic colors overlooked
Colours DS is special to me for three reasons. 1. Being Sonic Rush 3, 2. Being the way I first played Colours, and 3. Being the home of my absolute favourite wisp, Void. I think they're adorable, fight me.
You googled it, back then when I was a kid I had to figure that out myself (we had no internet), and I had to search on my own. A few years later I replayed the game and I thought while looking at the chaos emeralds and I wonder why the metal sonic wannabe had a slot and then everything clicked.
I won't lie, this is my favorite Sonic DS game. I always felt in tune with this game and Aquarium Park was by far the best (in my opinion) set of stages. Such a fun game.
I think the blue cube should have been an exclusive to this version as it would have served more of a purpose in this version than it did in the wii version and then it would have been even with 3 wii exclusive wisps (Green Hover , Pink Spikes and Purple Frenzy) 3 Wisps that appear in both (Cyan Laser , Yellow Drill and Orange Rocket) and 3 DS Exclusives (Red Burst , Blue Cube and Violet avoid)
I never thought about this when I played the Wii version, and now that you mention it, it kinda would fit more in the DS version, despite my hatred of the Blue Wisp.

the footage used kinda looks iffy since the game is put into this weird widescreen mode in an emulator which is very noticeable at 14:06 shows parts of the rank screen's top half you would never see on original DS hardware or the original ROM, like with the bottom spot of nothing sonic is standing on that is hidden to give the illusion he's standing on a part of the terrain. and when looking at the gameplay footage itself, various things in the HUD look stretched or displaced where they normally would have been with the original Aspect Ratio and with the cutscenes having things that would normally be off screen such as with Yacker on 4:43 and the Cyan Wisp moving until it would be offscreen on the original aspect ratio with it stopping when it reached a normally off screen part of the cutscene at 5:34-5:48 being predominant examples and the character portraits looking heavily pixelated and the text is slightly stretched in each cutscene presented.
I personally like this a good bit more than the Wii version. The movement feels so good to me. The Wii version I think has some really, REALLY good levels, but imo the quality isn't consistent.
