My first “full size” atv was a 1998 king quad 300. Started off on a 2003 bombardier ds 90 2 stroke. The 300 Was also the first engine I ever rebuilt. Ended up selling it and upgrading to a 2008 king quad 400. Now have a ‘21 sportsman 850
You know your stuff unlike a lot of dealer mechanics and I don’t know about where you are but they’re charging $145 a hour out here in Co. Well worth a 5 hour drive.
I remember that quad runner 250 that you tested to pulled that trailer, the quad runner 250 & the king quad 300 are basically the same just different motor sizes
Hello rock, I really enjoy watching your videos! I love spending late nights watching your videos ! I have learned a bunch of stuff from your videos keep posting !!
Big Red obsessed guy from tik tok here.. I was just checking the distance to R.I from OH . If you were closer I would take Big Red over to you for some work!
I neeeeeeee a clutch video on this mines doing the same thing fine in low and 1-2- but 3-4-5 she slips and yes I tightened the secondary clutch back to spec so I have a feeling it’s a Main cluch
I had an old quad runner 300 and it was a tank nothing could stop it it ran without the air box for over a year even in the winter it was amazing for ice fishing I wish I never sold for a sportsman 700efi
I actually had someone drive from CT a few weeks ago to bring a machine. He had a early 90’s Polaris 6x6.. He said the same thing, no one wanted to work on it.
Most places unless it's a small dealer refuse to work on older stuff none of the Polaris dealers will not touch my 04 330 trailboss so I've been slowly gathering parts to do a complete rebuild just waiting on the one manual I ordered for the 330 engine family.
Great video My dude! I picked up this exact machine ( in way worse conditon) but running for 250$. And then scorred a 93 quadrunner 250 for 300$ the frame has never been abused on the thing but the plastics have fallen apart. After seeing your 3 wheeler video i think i know what i want to do with it. But its nice to have the pair for the time being
I have this quad For future referance I had the same symptoms as this but on mine it was the 2 o rings under the throttle slide when you take out the plastic throttle slid giudes took me FOREVER to find it but my air passage for the emulsion tube was blowing extra gas due to failed O rings same exact symtoms
We have a 96 king quad and it built my cabin, dragged every log and pulled every load up hill through creeks and even in moderate snow, best quad ever made.
what do you think would cause a rich condition at idle that will cause it to slowly flood out till it shuts off? it takes alot of cranking at wide open throttle to get it started again.
Just curious, as I know you made your way over from TikTok. Do you enjoy this slower pace type video? Always looking for feedback so I can improve for future videos.
@@rockspowersports like them both yes you tube is a little better seams like I get to see more videos over there go with what ever is best for you we will be here showing support Arkansas Wavin
No related but have you ever messed with the auto chokes on some of the arctic cat quads. I’m working on an arctic cat 500 and the auto choke is busted but I don’t really wanna spend $250 on a new one. Is manual conversion the way to go?
@@rockspowersports I got one of the cheap Chinese manual choke conversion kits, it says it’s for my machine but the needle on the plunger is too small. Gonna see if I can rig up the plunger off the auto choke to make it work.
I got the same quad, but my issue is that it idles find, but as soon as I accelerate, neutral or in gear, it starts to sputter. Like it's a V8 running on one cylinder. My first time dealing with small engines, Ben watching all the videos but they're saying clean the carb. Just got it back from the shop and apparently they did that already and was running nice and strong for all of an hour before turning to sputter. I haven't personally taken it apart yet, lack the tools and space right now. I'm hoping the fix I need is dumber than I am lol
I would think your jets may be clogged, and maybe the tank needs to be cleaned because something from there got in the carb again and caused it to sputter
I’m also having this issue. I haven’t rebuilt the carb yet but I will let you know. I also need to adjust the clutches, and the hardest part of this is getting all the carb inlet and outlet to reseal, wish that would have been in the video. Cheers, very helpful.
I have a 98 king quad and it doesn’t have the torque I think it should I didn’t Even considered the carb diaphragm as being a possible cause thanks for the help
best quad ever made for it's time. 15 gears are awesome. diff lock fantastic. great little quad
A five hour drive says a lot about what the customer thinks of Rock`s mechanical abilities and character!

I appreciate that! Dealers are certainly charging around the same here as well.
Awesome, my friend has a 2000 Suzuki king quad 300, it’s having a carburetor issue right now but it’s gonna get fixed soon
Things things are little tanks! I miss that quad runner 250 I had for a short period of time.
I remember that quad runner 250 that you tested to pulled that trailer, the quad runner 250 & the king quad 300 are basically the same just different motor sizes
Yeah there’s a few small difference that the Kingquad is a little better for.

The clutch is adjustable on the right side behind the tire. Remove thr cover and adjust it

I am in Vermont but yeah it’s still a haul to OH.. That looks like a beauty in your profile picture.
My 87 was my first and favourite 4 wheeler.
250 Quadrunner?
@@rockspowersports yes it was orange with a black seat and had the glove clamp above the speedometer housing. The machine was ahead of its time.
Glad to see you flick the decompression lever before you pulled that cord lol!!!
My older brother had the same machine. Used it for hauling brush for wreaths in the winter. They are work horses for sure.
For sure, they have some compression if you don’t haha.

I just bought one of these with the carb removed. I can’t seem to find the hose that connects to the yellowish fitting in the carb. 7:10

You literally have most of ours dream job.
Yeah, I can’t complain! Get to ride different quads everyday.
Pretty cool. I’m in CT and had a hell of a time getting someone to work on my ‘01 Yamaha Wolverine 350.
I actually had someone drive from CT a few weeks ago to bring a machine. He had a early 90’s Polaris 6x6.. He said the same thing, no one wanted to work on it.
I used to work on ATVs/bikes in north central CT. There is a lack of people willing to work on them for sure. Thinking of getting back into it tbh.
Wish we had places to ride in CT. Even if we had to pay people.

Brings back memories had a red 300 awesome machine but go around corners fast and it wanted to throw you off like a vw trans axle design
For sure, that independent with no sway bars is not the most stable thing around corners.

Now she’s rolling out
Great video man!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
If you ever move to Colorado let me know because I would be a customer … great video I learned something from this
Thanks, glad to hear that. I’d like to visit Colorado one of these days but probably not going to be moving anywhere.
Nice work 👌
Thanks!
@@rockspowersports what’s your thorts on the old Kawasaki 360 4x4 quads ?

Did the oil change end up helping the clutch grab better?
Between the oil change and clutch adjustment yes it grabbed good after those.
These thnigs are tanks. In super low have someone sit on the front and they will pull a moose.

That engine sounds similair to my KingQuad 750.
Definitely has a lot less power than your 750 haha
What do you think about the Suzuki Vinson?
You don’t need to get new clutches you just need to adjust them

Is the shifter broke or is the shift shaft broke?
The shifter is broken off of the shaft.

Do u work on dirt bikes?
I live in ny and I have a really old two stroke race dirt bike 50 cc need to be put back together I have everything for it
The motor isn’t locked up either
Won't get enough gas, AND IT WONT GET ENOUGH AIR
