    With having the +ve and - ve being so close to each other, you got to be careful about were and with what you leave them with as they can short out easily and cause a fire.

      It's not really safe if it is not used in some kind of casing, dropping it somewhere could cut through the layers of shrinkwrap shorting it out.

      I was thinking the same thing. If you dropped one of those batteries in your pocket and forgot you had change or your car keys in that same pocket, those batteries with that level of energy density could heat up a key to red hot in just a couple of seconds, and boy wouldn't that be fun to try to get out of your pocket as you were dancing around with your pants on fire!

      As is, this design seems super-dangerous. Keys, gum wrappers, a coin (or coin battery in a bag of old batteries) -- fire starters. Add microntrollers on each side for handshaking before power delivery to the same-side terminals, and you could have a safe product.

    Those are really cool batteries with dual polarity on one end. There is one slight problem though I notice. The battery capacity rating is at 3.6 Volts, so the 5000 mAh is actually not 5000 mAh when charging a phone. 3.6V*5000mAh/5V=3600mAh, so really it's only a 3600 mAh charge you can give to your phone, not the full 5000 mAh. Even if the rating is at 3.7V it's still only 3.7V*5000mAh/5V=3700 mAh. Just so everyone knows. This is the same math that applies to all powerbanks though, you need to make sure the RATED capacity was taken at the voltage you will be using it for.

    • @thomasabney4898
      @thomasabney4898 ปีที่แล้ว

      A battery is always rated at its voltage and discharge. For comparison, the Goal Zero 5000 mAh Flip12 (which has a Samsung 18650 battery) is rated at 5000mAh, but at 5.14V only supplies 1,358 mAh on a 3.6v draw.
      Also for comparison, the Nitecore 10000 mAh battery bank provides 6267mAh at 5.14v. An impressive 4.6 times the GZ Flip12 rated at half the power. Additionally, the Flip 12 is around 72g and the NC 10,000 about 154g in weight. So for only twice the weight you get 4.6 times the power.

    I love the innovation you guys are doing here. This is perfect for ultralight backpacking. I would love to see a usb c version with 2 usb c ports. One input/output and one output only (or 2 i/o). It would also be really cool to see a flashlight that works with these under 45 or even 30 grams. Then I could have a whole ultralight system that works as a power bank and as a super bright light as well.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a couple ounces of weight are that bothersome, you should stay home and try to regain your health because 2 oz is nothing, varies more by how much liquid you drank that day.
      On the contrary, if you want lighter weight then you don't want the added housing and component volume to include the USB ports. You have no need for a power bank. Backpacking does not require burning up your phone battery, quite the opposite it is the least drain on phone battery that sane people would ever encounter.
      Now back to sanity, you are talking about 15 grams? Just stay home as you are not fit to be up and walking around, let alone backpacking if 15 grams, is a problem. Man up already. Yes I know that it all adds up weight wise, so let's say you have ONE HUNDRED freakin' things that add 15 grams. You can do the math, that's only 1.5Kg, a trivial total weight difference. IN fact, as ironic as it seems, if you were to haul that little extra weight, you would burn more fat and weigh less yourself so your total weight is no higher and possibly lower.
      It is laughable that you value a flashlight so little that you think it needs to be under 45 grams. Please just stay seated on your couch where gravity is not such a burden to you.

      @@commentsonthetube14 Apparently math isn't your strong suit. Quote "t would also be really cool to see a flashlight that works with these under 45 or even 30 grams." 45-30 =15, you are making a stink about less weight than you save from a HAIR CUT and would end up with flimsy crap that breaks due to the minimal material. Please just don't pretend you are so special that you think you know that 45 grams matters in any way in your life, except possibly the weight of glasses or a hearing aid, earbuds, etc strapped to your head.

Better to omit the charging, keep the light smaller, and just use the savings to buy another battery that you have charged already and can swap in and keep using the light instead of the silly idea that USB charging is so important that you will sit in the dark waiting for it to charge. Correct me if I'm wrong. You wouldn't run that lantern for 19h and drain the battery enirely, so comparing it to 12 AAs is not very fair since you would totally drain the AAs without repercussions. So I'd put it at about 8 AAs.
    Plus, my 10,000mAh power bank has multiple inputs, outputs, can take a few drops, easy and cheap to replace. When I go camping, the pouch also includes a $1 USB mini light, $1 USB mini fan, $1 USB torch, $1 USB splitter. So technically, I can run my lights and fan off the splitter and still charge my phone. I could also do this with 2 of these batteries, but the cost is insane for a bit of weight and space savings.
    This product is for people who like cool stuff, and actual hardcore thru hikers.

    i bought that lantern last week. i put in on for 10 seconds just to check it out. 1 the magnetic connection isn't as strong as i like meaning i think if it was laying sideways with the plastic part on a higher plane it has chance of just coming apart. and 2 the next day i wanted to try light again and it didnt turn on anymore. tried 2 different newely recharged batteries and nope. was kept in case between charges so there was no accidental impacts. very dissappointed. he makes the company seem like such the top notch light only company and i got sucked right in.the magnetic charger also has a very weak magnetic contact i had to place it carefully on my pile of desktop junk so there was no pressure at all against the top cap or it would pop off easy.

      That’s exactly what it was made for, a quick way to charge or as a side table lamp, not as a rugged flashlight. The magnet is not that strong.

      Yes but, price out good quality AA rechargeables like Eneloops. I dispute that it takes 12 of them to equal one of these 21700 cells but even if it were only 10, that's approaching $30 addt'l cost. It's not that bright, not at all worth that battery expense. You'd be better off just getting a couple 4Ah Panasonic 18650 and a light that uses 18650 instead.

    When he said TAK, TAK, TAK . . I had a 'Nam flashback which made me realize I need to vacuum underneath my desk. Why didn't they make a flashlight top too? The lantern is cool but I want a magnetic flashlight top with a rotary dial for brightness please.

    Seeing uncovered cathode and anode so close to eath other gives me thrills. That would also mean you can't use them in flashlights taht take more than 1 battery.

    Model - RR1863. And I’ve exhausted my resources here to find a batt for it. I wondered if there was a rechrgbl and if my nitecore would work.
