      Thank you, I'm wondering how my UK video's will preform this time on TH-cam, the previous UK videos on this channel didn't preform that well, but because I had the 3 days extra on the 1st class interrail I didn't pay myself I really wanted to go to GB. Unfortunately I didn't have time this time to take the scenic trains in Scotland, but ill be back for sure (and little spoiler alert, I do have 2 more video's in or from Scotland coming up, this has been shot at a very productive trip report weekend).

    Can I point out, if you buy your tickets from "The Trainline" they charge a handling fee, but if you buy the same tickets direct from the rail company's website the fee will not be charged. Most tickets can be received as a barcode on a PDFdocument for displaying on a mobile telephone (or printing onto paper), but tickets for journeys that cross London and include use of the London Underground will always need to be printed at your nominated station. (London Underground does not use bardoded tickets). Usually you will need to use the same credit card when printing the tickets, I have first hand experience to confirm earlier this week!

      I get your point, however I still prefer The Trainline. I think their handling fee should be different based on how much they earn (and maybe increase the handling fee for if I cancel my ticket or so). However why I absolutley LOVE trainline, let's say you book a ticket from anywhere in the UK to a small town in Belgium or The Netherlands, Trainline can do this, linking 3 different booking systems with each other. In countries where there are more companies, you can see the prices for all companies, etc.
      I know they charge a bit more, but they make it so much easier to book train tickets. I agree the extra fee shouldn't be that high on all tickets, they do receive commission. I'm working in the railway business myself and I know about commissions, in general this is somewhere between 0,5% and 5%. but the average commission is 2 or 3%. Just make the extra price different per country (one example is true but let's say Renfe is giving 0,5% commission in Spain and Iryo 5%, I can imagine 0,5% is not enough to cover all the costs for Trainline, so then I agree on extra costs for Spanish tickets).
      We just need better booking websites for trains and Trainline is doing, so far at least, the best job in Europe.

      @@Trainviking Thanks, earlier this year I travel across Italy and purchased my tickets from the Italian rail operator's website, and have also done likewise using France's, Germany's and Portugal's railways. But, I do see where a benefit might occur having just the one place to look for a multi country trip. Also, paying in my home currency removes the lottery of exchange rates and credit card surcharges for overseas curreny transactions!!

    it is a pity that London Euston is such a Dull station compared to the wonderful ornate Glasgow Central. some Rail stations are wonderful like Glasgow, Liverpool Lime street, York, Bristol Temple Meads and others. but Euston and Birmingham New street are just modern concrete & plastic sad places where you just want to get on your train and go!

      Agree, of course it's nice to see investments in railway stations however older stations can be upgraded in a nice way.
      Also new stations can be nice, look at Rotterdam Centraal of Liège for example.

    Nice video. Whenever I’m in the UK I prefer traveling by public transport (trains with the occasional coach/bus). I use a BritRail pass and had the same problem at the ticket barriers that you experienced. However, the Pass QR code did work at the barriers in Scotland!

      Yes, I had the same thing 2 years ago with a Britrail pass, somehow it only worked at London Victoria station, hopefully this can be changed and improved, especially for their own product, what are the Britrail passes.

    I find the views on the whole route to be good only because:-
    1 Out of London, you can do a bit of train spotting and see different stock,
    2 Once you leave Preston going towards Scotland, you get all the country side type views.

    1:20 It is "Euston Road" not "Euston Street". There may well be a Euston Street somewhere in the area.

      I picked that up immediately, I grew up in the suburbs of London and part of my time learning to drive was to drive to Euston Road ... those were good days to drive, no roadside cameras, no 20mph nonsense, nowadays London has been made into a hostile place to drive!

      there is a "Euston Street" just to the north of Euston Road.

    The Interrail app can be misleading about seat reservations in the UK. In reality, the UK is a great place to be an Interrailer! Many domestic trains do not require seat reservations at all, except for night trains and certain international routes.

      I found out later. Also I had some trains where I didn't even had an assigned seat.
      Also for Norway the app is very misleading and there the consequences are even bigger, because for most long distance trains you really need a reservation. Actually I'm thinking about making a special "how to" Interrail video, because it's great but there are some thing you need to know (the question is..., where to start, I just need a script for that I guess).

    You do really good videos. I find your environmental points very important. More people need to take this into account when travelling.
    The busy road that runs past Euston is Euston road, not Euston street. You might be interested to walk down Drummond street just north of Euston square which has a few vegetarian Indian restaurants. Last year I travelled up to Carlisle with a Bicycle. The seat allocation does not automatically assign seats near the bike compartment especially is you use a split save ticket within the Trainline app. This can be awkward if you only have a few minutes to board and the bike carriage is at the front.Bike tickets can be reserved separately from the main ticket purchase (unlike in France) at any manned rail station. The trains out of Euston can be very busy especially at Weekends.

      Ooohh sounds like I'm going to try some good food next time when I'm around. Somehow I pretty much always go to the same Indian place when I'm in London, I forgot the name. It's really good and super affordable. I can imagine the spot for the bikes isn't the best spot, actually I haven't thought of it that way. I guess I was lucky during my journey, because it wasn't too busy (the next day it's different though and I have some UK videos coming up in very, very, very busy trains).

    The other slower train to Glasgow goes via Birmingham and the West Midlands, serving more cities and towns on the way, while the fast train bypasses all that on the Trent Valley line running (usually) nonstop to Warrington. Normally, the slow train alternates between Glasgow and Edinburgh each hour while the fast train always goes to Glasgow, although there is the odd occasion where the fast train may go to Edinburgh instead.
    If you're travelling between London and anywhere between Warrington and Glasgow, ALWAYS go for the fast train, because the slow train is over an hour and a half slower. In fact, when I was travelling to London once from Preston, I bailed a slow train at Crewe to wait 20 minutes a faster train that came from Liverpool and decided to stopover at Milton Keynes. I actually managed to spend a good hour exploring the city centre and having a coffee before I returned to the exact same train that I previously left at Crewe for the remainder of the trip.

      Oohhh good to know, well at least you spend your time in a nice way that's the best part exploring new places is always better than just only hang around at the station (basically what I did during the weekend I recorded this hahaha).

      @Trainviking 100% - when I'm using a flexible off-peak ticket, I always like to take advantage of being able to break my journey to stopover somewhere on the way to explore another city. Once, when travelling to Edinburgh, my train was cancelled when it got to Carlisle so I had to wait an hour for the next train; as Carlisle Station had no ticket gates, I could easily explore the lovely centre of this historic city and even grab some supplies at the local B&M. Always beats hanging around the station.
      The slow train is essentially two routes in one: London to Birmingham and then Birmingham to Edinburgh or Glasgow, all merged into a single service. Birmingham to Scotland via the WCML was historically a CrossCountry route, but transferred to the West Coast franchise and merged with one of the London to Birmingham diagrams when Virgin lost CrossCountry to Arriva in 2007.

    You need to travel back to London from Edinburgh via the East Coast Mainline, either with LNER or with LUMO, both run services on the same route. Lots of great views out the window! this also runs at 125mph, or 200kph. The only trains that run faster are between The Channel Tunnel & London where there are both domestic and international services running.

      I will definetly try that, I planned the trip this time in a way that I can record as much as possible, however when I'm traveling with my gf I'll probably take the LNER or LUMO service.

      Lumo is super commercial so I believe t hese trains are pretty often fully occupied. I heard nice stories though but for luggage space I sure believe that. Hopefully I can try it out later on.

    most people will already know this, but check your platform before the journey, rather than waiting for it to be announced in the station, and just head straight there when you like and it should be much emptier. im not entirely sure if they let you through the barrier before the platform, but if they dont, im sure its possible to wait on 'the ramp' and anyone who has ever heard of euston station should know what i mean. of course, the longer you wait, the more reliable existing info is, but dont leave it too late

    Only problem is since the Avanti disaster ticket prices are such a rip off in addition to all their other incompetence . Used to use Virgin West coast a lot , but Avanti have been such a disaster operationally and the prices are way higher then the service quality justifies don't bother with them much any more.

      WCML losing traffic to ECML because of more frequent trains and often lower fares. Little wonder that Lumo has asked ORR for permission to extend its KX-EDI service on to Glasgow.

      Are you getting caught out by their absurd booking window where the flexible (anytime and off-peak) tickets go on sale before the cheaper advance fares by any chance?

      As a non-Brit, I can't give a proper reply on this.
      What is a fact though, ticket prices for trains within the UK can be very high on some routes, I won't deny that. Another fact is that if you know some tips and tricks you can get cheaper tickets and that's exactly the problem to me, booking a railway ticket should be easy for everyone and trains should be affordable to the average person, I know the route can be way cheaper if you travel by slow trains, however that won't always pop up in the time table (again only for those who know this it's easy to book). However don't underestimate the distance you're traveling even though these trains won't go 300 km per hour, and the top speed is 1/3 less, these trains do still have a very high average speed what makes it easy to forget the distance you're traveling. However on a route where there are still too many flights, (not needed flights). I think there should be an extra tax (extreme tax to me) for flights on this route and use that tax money to invest in the railway so ticket prices can be lower.

      @@Trainviking Problem is that our DfT largely controls most rail fares and now that the government takes the fares revenue (open access excepted)the operators lack commercial freedom. Our Great British Railways is supposed to change all that but the government has more important things to worry about.
      APD is our version of aviation tax. It was reduced to £5 a flight by Tory government but Labour is expected to restore APD to £10 in the October budget.
      Note that regional domestic flights are vital for connectivity (regional rail is slow) and those domestic flights feeding the London hub are essential for making connections to international long-haul.
      It's the same in Germany where LH operates domestic services to feed its twin hubs while AF does likewise in France to feed CDG. (Domestic flights to CDG continue as before despite some media saying they have been banned)

      Of course, actually I had some rimes in my mind and I asked AI to make a song with these words (it added some more words though), so it's an AI based song. Even though I have very mixed feelings about using AI for my video's when it comes to music I'm every now and then okay with it as long as my video's are true and don't show a different reality

    200kmh is just a fast train. Tilting trains are desighed for conventional tracka so by definition not high speed.

      Agree it's fast, however the way people define high-speed and higher speed... well I don't know, it's just a fast tfain to me. The average soeed is more important than the highest speed.

      ​@Trainviking true, the ICE 3 in Germany, for example, may be capable of 300km/h (320 for the newer variants) compared to our measly 200km/h, but they rarely hit that speed and only for short sections the few times they do make it to 300. Thus, the average speeds on most ICE corridors (even with ICE 3) are not much better than the our domestic Intercity corridors (ECML and WCML) which never exceed 200km/h. Hence, London to Glasgow and Berlin to Frankfurt (comparable distances) take a similar amount of time. One is a consistent 200km/h most of the route, while the other has long sections of 160km/h to balance out the short 300km/h section between Halle and Erfurt. The only time ICE 3 reaches its true potential is in France, with continuous 300-320km/h running from Strasbourg to Paris once across the border.
