Years later, after watching this and the scenes individually millions of times, it just now hit me: basically Brienne's last words to him were 'You don't need to die with her' (i.e. don't go, don't die) whereas Cersei's were that she doesn't want to die (i.e. save me). Wow. Both pleading with him but for totally different reasons.

One theory is that Bronn actually was sent by Cersei as an assassin, and caught the attention of both Tyrion and Jamie, and once the news had reached Winterfell Cersei potentially winning after she killed Rhaegar the Dragon Jamie, realised that Brienne was in danger and that he would he would never be free so he had to try and stop her and that was the reason it wasn’t made clear, but apparently that was it, and in order to stop Ryan from putting herself in danger who is being deliberately mean, but yes, it was really clumsy writing considering they do meet again in the books.
I just finished watching the final season hours ago. I'm in a huge amount of pain for all the characters especially to Jaime and Brienne! This bring tears in my eyes because of the potential they have. They could've been something more beautiful, pure and amazing just like this video but to hell with the writers, they screwed everything up! Please someone tell me how to get over with the pain. OMG I know right?! I'm going to be salty forever. D&D ruined the best ship in the history of ships....just unforgivable. With ALL the sex on that show, we got a literal 2 second kiss that was meant to be interpreted as a "one night stand" type of situation, when J&B literally spent at least a month or a little more together romantically. Like, REALLY?!!!!? I want to know where all the additional footage is because it felt like there was so much missing between that kiss and when he leaves her. There was clearly some intense intimacy between JB that was very domestic....looking at Brienne and how she just grabs Jaime's face in her hands when he's about to ride off, the slight tears in his eyes, the way he strokes her hand with his left hand for that moment. I know that scene was written to be him basically telling her he'd rather go die with his sister, but that moment before he starts talking about how hateful he is, there's that non-verbal show of intimacy and comfortableness between them as she touches him, it's just so sad we never got ANY of that romance. It wasn't just that Braime got ruined, but so were Jaime and Brienne's identities as individuals as well. It was just awful to see what they did to Jaime in the end, but man Brienne really got shafted too...once he leaves her, she's forgotten. And her becoming Commander of the KG isn't what I'd call a satisfying ending for her. As she's writing the rest of Jaime's story, it's clear D&D were adamant about keeping her out of Jaime's story and the White Book scene just makes me so mad. The only good part about that scene was Ramin Djawadi's score - he admitted that it was what he pictured for Brienne & Jaime's wedding music had he lived. That is the only reason that scene made me sob like a baby, just imagining what could have been. Such a waste. We were robbed and it was a shame that those actors did not have the opportunity to truly play out what they'd been slow-building for almost a decade. Just awful. I'm grateful for the little we did get, but sometimes it is still hard to watch knowing what happens, but then I just pretend they moved to Tarth and had a dozen kids and lived happily ever after
The emotions are just too sincere, pure, and intense to hide. This is so deeeep. I love Braime. What a beautiful and genuine love that existed between them. They are surely made for each other...perhaps not in the world (in the show) but to the other world which can be found in us...(in our hearts). And, it's real.

There are so many good examples of different relationships in GoT. This one, built on mutual admiration of personal honor...is unique. Because it's unique, I'm not even sure that the ending 'ruins' it...after all, Jaime couldn't just abandon the mother of his children to public torture and execution...no matter how much he may wish to be with his ideal companion. Sometimes love is hard...often, we love those who are unworthy...and it is in doing the hard things that a knight wins honor and glory...not in following his feelings or his personal benefit. Seeking to rescue Cersei and take her safely to exile was a worthy task...and a difficult one. THAT is why Brienne writes that he 'died defending his queen'. Tragic heroes.

Jaime liking Brienne is not embarrassing for him. He's been in an abusive and incestious relationship his entire life. Brienne liking Jaime is super embarrassing. He walks around using kindergarten boy tactics to get Brienne to notice him for the better part of the first half of their relationship and she *falls for it!* embarrassing
Brienne has literally no experience in relationships(which was given for the medieval setting of the story), but also she is a softie inside beneath all the hardy fighting spirit outside and isn't cunning like Cersei at all. Also he doesn't just use kindergarten tactics on her, once he starts spending time with her, he notices her and respects her unlike many of the men around who make sexist comments about her, mistreat her(him saving her from the bear pit is an example of that), she falls for that. The bath scene was the moment Brienne understood him completely, Jamie showed his vulnerable side to her, the side he has shown to literally no one given the lack of love life and all. This is where the first half of their relationship reaches.
The most fake love story ever that exists only in the heads of some. After one night with her, he decides he can take no more and go back to the one he always loved. Not that I blame him it was a huge downgrade

Brienne has literally no experience in relationships(which was given for the medieval setting of the story), but also she is a softie inside beneath all the hardy fighting spirit outside and isn't cunning like Cersei at all. Also he doesn't just use kindergarten tactics on her, once he starts spending time with her, he notices her and respects her unlike many of the men around who make sexist comments about her, mistreat her(him saving her from the bear pit is an example of that), she falls for that. The bath scene was the moment Brienne understood him completely, Jamie showed his vulnerable side to her, the side he has shown to literally no one given the lack of love life and all. This is where the first half of their relationship reaches.
