Today we hit the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia super early to visit the Wong Mei Kee Restaurant👍 🇲🇾
We were super lucky to be able to watch three generations of the Wong family prepare and cook their famous super crispy pork belly, char siu and crispy chicken. WOW words fail us. The love and dedication that goes into the preparation of these BBQ meats is just outstanding.
Thank you to the Wong Family and all of the staff who allowed us to film this amazing video.
    Today we visited

Pudu (the area that you are now) is such a hidden gem for tourists. It is such a food heaven where the foods at day and night is a completely different vibes. You must go to Pudu "Wai Sek Kai". Wai Sek Kai is a cantonese words and it is means Glutton Street. The locals always go there to have their meals at day and night.

Your charismatic personality, big smiles and great introduction to this 3 generational restaurant is very entertaining, Steve. Great video and very engaging, the way you introduce the preparation process from beginning until the end. I'm now very much inclined to make my way to Pudu just for this..... Thank you very much. By the way, your shirt looks great..... Jim Thomson's creation? (We're so used to witnessing Asians speaking English. To see a Caucasian speaking Cantonese is delightful.)

Chilli sauce for chinese white chicken - Garlic + Ginger + Red Chilli ( Blended together) with Ratio - 2: 3:: 3 respectively. Seasoning - Salt + Sugar + Lime Juice (can replace with rice vinegar)
Chicken Rice - Blended ingredient Garlic + Ginger (Ratio 1:3). For fragrant - Pandan Leaves (Screwpine leaves) + Lemon Grass as you like. Seasoning - Salt (for taste). Last add in chicken stock from the boiled chicken or can be made from the chicken fats fried in the blended ingredient or get some Knorr chicken stock without MSG. Available in Malaysia.
Chinese White Chicken - Prepared 1 whole clean chicken to place into a boiling water to boil for 20 mins. Then off the fire. Let it rest for 30 mins in the boiling water to cook. After that bring out the cooked chicken and submerged in the ice cold water for 10 mins to smoothen the skin of the chicken because the chicken oil on the skin will condensed and make the chicken very smooth and taste good. Cut the chicken into pieces and drizzle plenty of sesame oil (pagoda brand) and light soy sauce (Lee Kum Kee brand)

Great pronunciation. FYI they are blanching it to remove excess blood from the meat, not to tenderize it. Later they are poking it with spikes so that rendered fat can drip out through the holes, it's not to tenderize it.

Wow .. Great to see that you're enjoying your travel and food in Malaysia .. Hope you're still in Malaysia and if you're a Dim Sum Fan .. Perhaps to try Foo Hing Dim Sum in Puchong Bandar Puteri .. To get there .. You may travel on the LRT to get to Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT Station .. And from there .. It's a walking distance from the Station .. Also .. If you have the time .. Do visit Malacca as well .. A Southern Malaysia State .. It's a food haven .. Especially the Signature Famosa Chicken Rice Balls located inside Jonker Street near where the Huge Tiger Statue and The Stadhuys (Dutch Square) are .. Their Cendol is great as well .. Enjoy ! ☺😋

I see .. Hopefully you'll be able to visit Jonker Street in Malacca .. Perhaps you have visited in the past or you havent but if you're in Malaysia .. It will be great if you're able to visit Malacca as well .. It is also UNESCO acreditted like Penang .. Chicken Rice Balls in Malacca is on the same level with Penang Char Kuew Teow .. In my humble opinion .. Haha .. Jonker Street has a few restaurants and cafes worth visiting .. Among them are : Geographer Cafe for their Cocktails and Margaritas .. Art Calanthe Cafe for their 13 States Coffee .. Jonker 88 for their Signature Laksa .. The Baboon House for their Signature Burger and not forgetting Famosa Chicken Rice Balls .. A must try .. Their interior deco was beautiful as well as they are in a Peranakan House setting .. Then at night .. Head over to Jalan Ong Kim Wee for Satay Celup at Ban Lee Siang Restaurant (Skewered ingredients dipped in peanut sauce) .. The price goes by the colour of the stick .. You can also get Fried Oyster Omellette .. Honey Glazed Chicken Wings and Springy Wan Ton Noodles at Chop Beeng Cheong Restaurant opposite the Tun Tuah Secondary School .. It is easy to find by mentioning the school and they usually opens at 6pm in the evening .. Baba Charlie Restaurant is also in the same area which sells unique and delicious Peranakan Desserts and Cuisine .. 😋😊

ROTFL Steve. When I heard you say that the old Uncle was the lads GRANDFATHER, I roared with laughter as it reminded me once of a Philipino client I had to interview win relation to a Court Case, following a serious car accident. When I attended at his house, I saw this very young boy who approached the front door. I asked him if his Grandfather Mr So and So was at home. The Client was supposed to be 53 years of age. This young lad looked me straight in the eye and said: "I am the one you want to see". I said "no, I want to see Mr &*&* in relation to his car accident." He repeated himself and said; "I am he" I said: You can't be. You don't look old enough to be 53 years of age, and too young to have a Drivers' Licence. He said: "IT IS I". I then said to him: "I know Asian people are supposed to look very young but this is ridiculous. What is your secret to your youthful looks". His answer had me rolling on the floor. He said: "I tell you how I look young. I don't worry. When the bills come; it go from the postman's hand into my letter box, from the letter box it goes to my hand, and from my hand; it goes straight into the rubbish bin." He made this statement in a Spanish accent and I could not contain myself after that. The Old Uncle reminded me of that day. Safe Trip Stevo. Regards to the 'CHELSTER.

''Steve'' another very valuable video for future records.. but i'm astonish to see they're still able to perform their cooking operation out on the pavements as this is technically discourage or are out right illegal.. there use to be many dozens of these roast pork vendor around KL.. but many really good one are gone unless you go to those expensive roast pork palaces as they call it in top shopping malls ''so my Chinese friends tells me''.. having said that i don't think they will be there for that much longer ''if'' that street is a stone throw away from ''bukit bintang''.. a mile radius from that posh up market shopping precinct will be gentrified before the end of the decade as all the up coming 5 start hotels will not tolerate it.. i'm not sure how that old roast pork shop survive as the rent for the real estate must be huge.. but like you said the the founder of that establishment seems very well dress.. this tells me he's one of those ''keep it under the lid millionaire''.. some of them walks around in grubby T shirt and flip flop but drive a top of the range BMW.. but i think Ipoh and Penang will have a better Roast pork vendor than Kuala Lumpur.. if you are already there i think you know what i mean..

It would be criminal if they are ever forced out of business. So all safe there, as we know will there is little to no criminals in government. 😐🫣
      Thanks for your lovely comment👍👍🙏

On the pork belly, he pokes the skin with the nail like tool so the the skin can “pop” to let the oil out during the roasting in order to have a crispy skin. Interesting to hear you spoke Cantonese when you asked the guy “how much money”.

Hi. A few comments. While they prep the pork belly, they were poking the skin is to have a uniformly blister on the skin. The smaller the blister the better wld be the crackling with each bite. Not tough and hard. The consistency is almost like biting a prawn cracker.
As for the char siew it is nothing to shout about. Pretty normal. Many other places better than that. The chicken was OK.
The hot and a bit spicy soup is simmer with mustard leaves, dried chillies, chicken bones and cut ends of the Crispy pork.
