BATTLEFIELD 2042: How to Play Attack & Stealth Helicopter in Season 7

- The Attack Helicopters (Apache and Hokum) and Stealth Helicopter has had a lot of changes in Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 (bf2042), particularly with Attack Helicopters having a 20% damage reduction to their Anti Vehicle Rocket Pods and roughly 17% damage reduction to TOW missiles (which applies to the Stealth Helicopters too).
Both class of vehicle are excellent anti-vehicle hunters, specially going after heavy and medium armour. Since patch 7.2 however, it has become more difficult to take down vehicles in 'one cycle' i.e. a single pass, meaning better planning is essential and having a Gunner highly preferable to running solo. This is particularly true when going after Wildcats. The other problem is Nightbirds -- brutally overpowered, they can shred both classes of helicopter in seconds so knowing how best to engage them & again, having a Gunner, is a must if you want to take them on.
Now that BF2042 is going into its final phase, it's unlikely the Attack & Stealth Helicopters will be materially changed from this point on. For those picking up the game on sale / joining late, I hope this helps you to get familiar with the vehicles.

Thanks I really appreciate it, listen I'm really not that good a player either I've just put in my best college try to help people access the game. So long as you're having a good time and at least occasionally get your moment -- you're doing just fine.
As my boss said to me at work when we were in for a rough meeting: you can't polish a turd, but we can at least cover it in glitter! Sometimes all we can do is the best we can :D
Well I'm not a good player either, especially running and gunning but I've definitely become a better engineer thanks to Timeless, no question about it.
Great video as always! One tip that helped me, was getting out of the muscle memory of using ADS on helis, especially for closer ranges. It’s so natural after playing FPS games to ADS, but I find with the helis it really messes with my aim, and I generally think it’s better to almost never do it, unless you’re actually just using it to see better. It may just be me and a feeling thing but it helped me a bunch. Will you be making a Draugr video? I’d love to see you try the stealth bomber!

Draugr… the only thing I might do a vid on there is pairing the JDAMS with the SOFLAM to see if we can make a real spawn camping vehicle killer. I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Otherwise no I don’t think I will - it doesn’t play differently enough from a Jet to really justify it, and dipping kerosene bombs on objectives is quite an obvious thing to do! I’m not sure what the vid would even be about?
@timelessgamer_UK it would be nice to see a video of you working Cabal and a Casper drone player. Casper would spot everyone as close air support rains hell on the objectives.
Like a Casper with voice chat is insane with paired vehicle players. Drone and tugs make it super easy to clear out or defend objectives.
Good tip with the stinger! Did know there was an icon, but had not thought of firing from behind. I’ll definitely use that!

Thanks very much! I’ve got at least one more in me but then yeah, I think the sun has set on any wisdom I can impart for the game. I really only aim to help people get started as I know it can be frustrating, especially when the games player base is mature & the skill level is already pretty high.

You’ve got to give it a shot, it’s a Beast. Deeply deeply underrated since 5.3 turned the Attack Helis into OP monsters. I’m glad they were nerfed as it’s bringing challenge / cooperation back into the game. Now they just need to seriously tone down the NB and we may have some BaLaNcE in the skies!

Fantastic final video, one of the only 3 youtubers I've enjoyed for this game, I was already a pretty good player in all vehicles but your videos have helped me be that player who the entire enemy team is focusing after 5 minutes 🤣 sadly i very rarely come across good pilots to back up but I do sometimes get a competent gunner that makes me think they might watch your videos. I know you don't like the nightbird but they are my favourite to take on because they're difficult, i don't use them any more because im about mastery 200 in it, I'll only use it if im against a really well coordinated team and they're shutting down whatever else I was using. Final note, nightbirds are really fun to hit with rpgs they never expect it 👍👍👍
Thanks as ever for the kind words & encouragement - first I should clarify one thing, this was my final guide, the final video is the next 2042 one! I articulated it better at the end 😅 the next and final 2042 is my farewell with all my favourite moments. Then, that is truly the end for me and 2042.
Nightbirds to me are the living embodiment of imbalance. I was flying one last night after thinking “why not?”, my goodness I shredded my lobby. No vehicle survived it, I not only had an answer for everything but it was so damn easy. I think what gets me is the way players celebrate / cheer / post their kill streaks in a vehicle which is just so unfair. But yes as you say, it makes killing them all the more glorious 🫡
I don't know if that's typical gameplay for you but I think you're missing out one a few one-run kills on armor by not going into stealth mode (ready for bombs) the moment you've fired your second TOW. You can still steer it in stealth mode.

Also EMP on the Stealth Helo is utterly underated for Groundfehicle hunting!
As a pretty good Nightbird pilot... The BEST thing you can to is to get a friend in the gunner seat and dive from above... If the Bird doesn't see the you in time, you pretty much got the fight in the bag.

Yeah death from above dive bombs are fantastic, and if you can get above the Nightbird there’s a good chance of winning on the first pass (or at least causing so much damage there’s no real prospect of losing the follow up). If I don’t have a gunner in my stealth heli though I have to admit that I’d probably pass on attacking a NB that hasn’t seen me!

I’ve always chuckled to myself how Stinger players end up pulling down everyone around them when they send a giant flare into the sky saying “shoot me now”. It’s like one of those comedy movies where you’ve got that one guy who can’t shut up on the mission & blows everyone’s cover. The 3 minute thing is just me having a little stab at the TikTok / 60 second swipe club. 30% of people who click on my vids drop within 10 seconds or less. That wasn’t even enough time to finish saying hello & welcome back! Give a guy a chance 😂

Do a TOW Missile Barrel-Roll vs any Air Vehicle (Jet or Chopper)!

I would suggest using 30 mm in Super Hokum instead of rocket pods for Air to Air fight for those guys who are struggling in aiming with rocket pods. And the best part is you showed the absolute way to kill nightbird using Attack, that was life saving
Once you learn the rocket pods they’re brutal. The 30mm is good if you’re truly being backed into a corner in the air by a NB but you lose the ground game. For me it’s something to help new players learn.

I wish I got more opportunities to gun in heli's but they are few and far between...and... when I do finally get in one, its usually pretty short lived, so I never get much practice. There is a definite learning curve to gunning in heli's and you can't really practice in portal or solo because the AI are horrendous pilots, even worse than me and that's saying something....lol.
Remind me, what region are you in again? (NA / EU / SEA / Oceania)

I've thought about trying to find some folks on Reddit who want to practice their heli flying in a less populated Portal server, then I can practice my gunning for them. However, with the game coming to an end and Delta Force coming out here shortly, which will likely steal many of the BF players, not sure how many are really interested in the game that much any more.

@@timelessgamer_UK I believe your typically somewhere in Asia..? I can trying playing at a higher ping as pilot is a way more important, never tired that before, maybe gunner is not that affected...not sure. I'll try a higher ping Portal server today and see how it plays for me.

Where TF are you playing that you can linger around after killing the stinger engineer and don't immediatey have at least one other lock-on after those 6 seconds!??

To answer seriously though, and I know you’re quite the pilot yourself - you get a sense in advance of attacking the Stinger Engineers how many there are from the lock on aim warning. If I see 4-5 flashing on me then I stay away. If I only see 1-2 (maybe 3 if grouped) I’ll go for it. 6 seconds with a back up gunner is more than enough to clean house and get away.
I do wish more people would play AA beyond mindlessly spamming stingers or camping at spawn with a wildcat. Helicopters and jets are really dangerous and I often feel like I'm the only one trying to take them out. Lis is my main only because the moment I switch to something else some heli comes along and compels me to switch back because otherwise I'm going to just die over and over >
This is the story of my life. Every time I try to get away from Engineer, some Nightbird pilot pulls me right back in! Amazing how many people ignore them 😂
after shooting the TOW and then change to missiles, the TOW still follows your crosshair even if its not selected?
Correct - it’ll still be guided in. Just stay on the target. This lets you maximise uptime / DPS and really burn down Wildcats. Patch 5.3 really was hilarious, I’m amazed they left it this long to nerf it! Still powerful though
You gotta try the LATV with a 20mm flak cannon on it. I’d offer to play with you but I’m still on last gen
How is the BF 2042 community on last gen, good numbers? Yeah I was all over the 20mm Flak cannon on LATV the moment it came out in Season 5, got a few clips up if you’re interested. The biggest killer though is the CAV with 20mm as paired with the armour and APS, it’s the attack Heli murderer. Better than a Wildcat any day.
@@timelessgamer_UK last gen is kind of hit or miss. I’ve noticed a consistent drop off at 8am MST. After that, you get a lot of bot matches. But evenings are pretty decent.

The LATV with 20mm flak cannon was OK back when you could use it with Irish's trophy but now I don't care for it or ever use it, or any LATV weapons really. The LATV greatest weapon is itself, doing roadkills...lol. If it had a 50MM or 25MM APDS cannon option, then it would more interesting. I just don't care for the 20MM flak though, the effective range is only like 200m, so beyond any really low flying nightbird its kind of useless and even then their miniguns will shred a LATV faster then you can shred them in most cases. Against infantry the 20mm flak is the weakest weapon in BF2042, it only does 1 pt of dmg against infantry. So if someone approaches the vehicle while your manning the gun and in the vehicle alone your going to die.
@@Eric-qx1kx yeah idk man, I’ve been shredding choppers for the last few weeks, and that’s solo. If I had a decent gunner or driver it’d be even more fun.
It’s not a camping vehicle, it’s a fast moving scout vehicle, and I’ve run down more than a fair share of choppers.
It’s also stupid cheap and respawns fast, so if you want to air drop one on say, Orbital rooftop A, you’ve now got a solid air defense without wasting/risking a Wildcat
@@amszulu I've been temped to try it like that on Orbital, either on a rooftop or under a grove of trees and then drop Blasco's jammer down to prevent AGM or JDAM lockons. Probably would still not last long but it might help a bit.

Ugh. An exceptional little brid player will ruin the game for me. I wish their canons weren't as powerful. Also, I hate how the AH gets disabled and I can't adjust left/right making it even f***ing harder to land ONE HIT.
I really can’t stand the Nightbird its absolutely OP and to this day I refuse to use it. I like firing out of its passenger seat & using it to transport me around the map though. The Attack Heli is really tough when it’s damaged you’re right, turns into a brick. NB doesn’t of course!!
I agree, the night bird makes the game so much worse. They should remove the secondary missiles and remove one equipment slot like the stealth heli and make them pick between repair or flares

@kingqman8250 with its agility I feel it should have a much closer engagement range. Keep the speed at which it moves but now being closer to inf. and vehicles it needs that agility to survive.
Ngl thats stupid. Especially the part of making the Nightbird choose between repair and flares. The stealth heli has its stealth mode thats why they put it that way. The nightbird doesnt so i dont really see why you are comparing those two. Taking away the missiles is somewhere arguable but i also dont think it would be healthy to remove its ability to destroy spawncamping vehicles, but you do you. It has only one missile now, making it basically impossible to solo any armored target already.
