BMW just transformed itself from drivers' car to an entertainment centre. I liked the front camera activation function though. It's a real life-saver for some users.
@@Zierfish Call me old-school but I don't think I can call any car with such gimmicky infotainment system a 'drivers' car'. Who plays console game in a driver's car?
What happened to the "Comfort Access" and "Home Zone" settings? I have seen videos on how to set a home zone (similar to activation triggers in camera settings) in idrive 8.5 and then set the door lock settings. So you could deactivate the automatic locking when the car is located in the home zone. Now the only thing I see in the Windows/Doors section, I can open a window based on gps location. But not deactivate the auto doorlock. Any idea if the door lock settings can still be configured based on geolocation? It's pretty annoying when I walk around in my own garage with a key or phone in my pocket and the car locks/unlocks all the time.
What does this mean? Who is 9 for if it isn’t for upgrading 8.5 to 9? My friend has a brand new i4 which says he’s on the latest version even if it is 8.5.
Even though I've 2024 X7, I still watched... great job with the video. It was informative and engaging... 👏 Do you know if iDrive 9 will be released to X7?
Question regarding HUD- It seems the Sport Mode has a default HUD and while I can change it to another configuration, if I go out of Sport Mode (I know, why would I want to do that!) and return to Sport Mode, the display does not retain my preference, it goes back to the default. However, the Driver Center display screen retains the last configuration regardless of Drive Mode. Do you know how to "lock" in the HUD configuration for Sport Mode other than the default? TIA
It all looks very modern and fancy, but only when stationary. While driving, however, it is a step backwards compared to physical buttons. It is too distracting and some of the small icons are difficult to hit because you also have to concentrate on the traffic. I've driven the new 5 Series and iX1. Compared to my X3 2022, it looks more modern, of course, but it is a deterioration while driving (in my opinion).
I really think that BMW is not on the right track with this OS and the super widescreen. It requires to split settings in too many sub-menus and force the user to understand where to look. Hopefully, the Neue Klass will come with a more balanced screen aspect ratio, allowing to stuff more settings vertically and dramatically reduce the number of sub-menus.
the best advice would be how to downgrade iDrive 9 to 8. Because 9th version is just terrible, put that next to an ugly new design (both ex- and internal) and suddenly KIA becomes a challenging rival for the bmw :)

I honestly cannot fathom what went through the head of the CEO to approve or whoever designed the car. BMW managed to make the interior feel cheaper with stupid led lights everywhere, frustrate their users with a poor mans ipad instead of physical buttons, and to finish it all - slap a in front a grill that looks like a giant rodent's teeth.
Good effort Nicely explained .. Thanks Andrei and team...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice and detailed introduction. Learn some new operations. Thx!❤
Great content thanks.. I collect my new BMW this week

Did I say that’s a problem? It’s just a change of design philosophy.
Someone likes it and someone doesn’t. I’m sorry if that offended your feeling.

FYI the Apple Map display on the driver screen is not new nor specific to Idrive 9. But I have learned a lot. Thanks
You are right, it was there before.
Very informative and straightforward thanks 👍🏼👍🏼

Nice, is this available for Model Year 2024 I5?

I don't think that is an option in idrive 8.5, but not sure about 9.
Does idrive 8.5 have Front camera activation ?
Yes
Can you get that on the 2023 bmw x1? Great video btw !
No, the 2023 X1 cannot get it
So folks with a BMW that has the 8.5 version can’t software upgrade to 9?
No, different OS

It won't be.
Any noteable differences from 8.5 to 9 ither than google os build (9) and Linux (8.5)
For me, the 8.5 always feels a bit faster.
@bmwblog very interesting. Thanks!
VERY GOOD PRESENTATION USING THE THE KISS RULE FOR ME [KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID ]
I literally just bought my 2025 M440i and it has iDrive 8.5!
It's pretty similar
@bmwblog I just ordered the new M5 and it is being built in January. Will it have 8.5 or 9? And if it has 8.5, will it do an over the air update ?
8.5 and I both can do ota updates. Even 7 was already able to…
The difference between 8.5 and 9 is minor. 9 is android based as far as I know.
@@durjaymajlish1095 I just received my iX1 a week ago and at least it has 9 already installed.
The 1 series has also Os9 or?
Yes

Only two steps really
