“We lives our lives with uncertainty. Enjoying the moment, without dwelling on the past, or expectations for the future”. You nailed what the last 2 years have been. I love your videos. I’d love to have the honour of meeting you in person when I return.
Hello John my wife’s from Vietnam before the situation in the world I’d spend 3 months home to California and back for 3 months and on my wife has a large family base in Vietnam I just came across your channel from a friend and I’ve subbed great content
Good to see you back John. Life will be getting better by tomorrow. I had to live through the genocide during Pol Pot from 1975 - 1979. I grew up in Phnom Penh and most of my family members were wiped out. I also have some relatives who live in Vietnam. I'm planning to visit Cambodia after this new year. Hopefully, I'm able to visit my relatives in Vietnam also. I usually stayed in Nha Trang for a few weeks. Be well and stay safe. It's been very cold and a lot of snow here. Chills from Minnesota!
Wonderful to see Nha Trang, one of my favorite places to visit is getting back to normal again. While we do have a lot of Vietnamese food and fruits here in California, USA, it is not comparable to the variety of fresh fruits in Vietnam. Glad to see that you enjoying your stay in Vietnam.
On the bright side, I think this "empty" time can give the visitor a unique perspective. You can actually enjoy the building, the architecture without dealing with a lot of locals or fellow visitors. Or may be this is a good reset to improve the tourist industry ?
Glad you're well and good to see you back making great content , Vietnam economy will slowly bounce back but hope sooner rather than later Ive heard Nha Trang was one of the most hit the hardest out of all the towns/city's with Covid. Stay safe John cheers during the festive season.
Hi John glad to see you back with a new video with such beautiful perspective and words of wisdom - like you always do😉 you look more optimistic and enthusiastic and happy hope the situation will get better all over and of course in Vietnam. Take care🙏😊
I enjoy your videos of Nha Trang. It is truly a beautiful city with one of the most gorgeous beaches on your doorstep. We cannot wait for the government to allow us entry again, although I believe they are supposed to make it much harder to get approval and I believe will only allow a 1-month visa. ??? which would truly be a shame. Still, I can only hope that will change. as for years, we have enjoyed Nha Trang For a few months each year. Looking forward so much to getting back and meeting the great friends we made there. Before covid, the traffic situation and the never-ending line of busses on the streets made getting around very difficult and dangerous. So I hope that will never return. Take care and thank you for all the updates
Hello John, great to see you again. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, well scripted video with loads of educational information on the pagoda & historical site at the beginning of this video clip. Happy that you have received your 2nd dose but do be mindful of the wrath of C-19. God bless and please take good care of yourself.
Thank u so much for such amazing promotional content of my beloved hometown! I’m a Khanh Hoa native and have been living in Nha Trang for the past 3 years in order to pursue my highschool education and I must say this pandemic has been devastating to the city! It’s heartbreaking to see so many businesses closing down and experience the kenopsia of empty tourist destinations. I do, however, hope the city will get back on its feet and recover economically now that most people here are vaccinated and the lockdown is loosening up. In the meantime, take great care of yourself John!
Thanks so much! I truly hope the end is near of this catastrophic tragedy that’s turned the lives of so many people upside down. Take care, good luck and best wishes to you in 2022!
Rewatching this makes me miss the only good thing about those years - the relative tranquility and slowness of life. Hope you’ve been keeping busy and well! Looking forward to the next edition of Far East Travels after KL.
Yes that’s very true. Life was slowed down to make us appreciate what we did have at the time. I’m working on lots of new content. Sorry for the delay and thanks again for your support friend!
Another fantastic video! Thank you John. I really appreciate your hopeful energy for 2022 and your continued mentions of vegetarian and vegan food options in Vietnam. Someday I will get there!
Excellent video as usual, John. What a stark difference between this video and previous ones where you showed fenced and boarded up streets. Nice to see the locals slowly getting their lives back and thanks for showing us around, one day soon we’ll be back to experience these for ourselves. I admire the ease and unpretentiousness of the plant-based food culture. And thanks for the regular podcasts, very refreshing to hear during these times.
Nha Trang has truly suffered from this virus. There’s been no tourists here for nearly 2 years . I’ve seen businesses slowly disappearing until there’s virtually nothing left. Nha Trang was once a thriving holiday destination especially for the Vietnamese , feels like now it been put on a Life support machine . It desperately needs to be given a breath of life pumped back into its soul before it may never make a recovery.
Thanks for the update Sid. It’s been 2 years waiting for me. Planning on April 1 arrival. I just don’t know. A few days to acclimate in HCM then to Phan Rang with my girlfriend. A few days relaxation near Vinh Hy and on to Nha Trang. I am more than ready to spend money at the hotels and restaurants. I just hope the government opens up the country with no quarantines . Sorry to hear about the tourists business in Nha Trang.
@@DaveEPie No problem I hope next year things will work out for you. Some good news is that I went out on the 24th into the town and it was absolutely buzzing restaurants was full , loads of traffic and there was a great vibe in the air. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that . My mate was supposed to come back in January but the airline canceled his ticket he thinks he will get a flight in February. Wishing you all the best for next year hope things work out cheers mate
Again, loved it! Interesting, a follower intimated his 'staging' plan. Not less than 24 hours ago I was researching rentals in Thailand to do exactly the same. The goal, Vietnam. We've had a wee set back though globally in the last 48-72 hours. So test and go is off the table. The one skill I have honed during these confusing times... Patience🙏. Lovely introspection John.
Thanks Jodi! Yes I heard the news as well and perhaps a delay in the whole region including Vietnam opening up. Patience and gratitude! We’ll get through this!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you John for the great content. I am Vietnamese and actually never visited Nha Trang but I will when the pandemic is under control hopefully next summer. It was a surprise to me that only until now you were able to get your 2nd jab. The government should have done a better job at vaccination for foreigners. Happy new year!
Thanks so much! Delay of vaccines is caused by a global shortage of vaccines and lack of interest by big drug companies for the temporary lifting of patents to manufacture those vaccines in developing and poorer countries. While people are getting booster or 3rd shots there are still hundreds of millions of people who still haven’t gotten their first jab.
Hi. I really enjoy your videos. Your commentary is beautifully written and always gives us a lot to think about. Could you please mention (in the comments) what music you use ? I really like the music you used in this one. Thanks. Safe and happy travels. Cheers from Quebec.
Great episode, creativity and story telling John. I especially liked that line about people venturing back out to enjoy the "transition of light to dark". Always saddened though to see the amount of rubbish & plastic along shores and rivers in SE Asia. Looking forward to listening to your podcast which I didn't even know was a thing! Merry Christmas and keep on staying positive and motivated - stay safe….from Sydney. Peace to you.
Thanks for sharing, missed Asia, we wanted to VN this year, but the Pandemic limit everything, hopefully the Covids and Omicron calm down fast that we can travel safe again, Take care, stay safe.
Goodday John, I have been waiting for your video for so long. Only through you do I get a true prospective of how Vietnam is traveling. I see the numbers daily on the John Hopkins Virus Meters & the numbers are still high roughly 16,000 new cases daily & 250 deaths daily. But I still desperately want to return, I couldn't watch your video without a dry eye. I have been to those beaches just remembering. There are 3 planned weddings I will be attending in Vietnam & I can't wait. Miss Vietnam so much, such beautiful people, beautiful places. Thank you for keeping us informed, you are a true gentleman. Hi John, another top video. Your thoughts on Da Nang v Nha Trang for a 3 month stay? My partner and I will be bringing our 12 month old daughter over for a visit. I've been to Da Nang previously but not Nha Trang and wondering what would be better for our family. Thanks
Thanks very much! Nha Trang might be a little more convenient as the city center is closer to the beach then in Da Nang. I personally prefer Da Nang as it has a few more things more geared to Western expats than Nha Trang and I really enjoy the beach. Perhaps swimming is a little safer on Nha Trang Beach than Da Nang.
John - absolutely love your videos!!! Is it rude to ask if you also work in Vietnam to help with your living expenses? I ask this not as a nosey bugger (technical term) but as someone who is looking to live in Vietnam for some time as well, so I’m looking for some context.
