I love that A-frame idea you have inspired me to do this on my own. I am 63 years old and wondering how I was going to do it. I just purchased the exact same sailboat so I can learn how to sail.

Great video ! We have a winch on the mast to raise it but this is a great idea to add more stability

Well done! Thank you for the video. Now It's my turn to step my Catalina 22 mast.

Nice. Thanks. The Catalina 22 should be pretty easy. One thing that will help is to use a winch to hold the line while the mast is being raised. I didn't do this, but should have so I could deal with a foul at the bow.

Great video! U have a twin foil roller furler! On our C&C 33, we don’t furl our headsails when racing! We can slide a smaller r larger sail up on the inside (windward) when making sail changes! Furled sails r not ideal 4 racing! U will need another halyard rigged though!👌

Thanks for the kind words. I'm using one of the foils as a repair to one of the joints of the fuller (stuck an aluminum rod through it to keep it rigid). I'm thinking of putting a jib on the fuller and removing the genoa until I get more familiar. Not planning on racing, but I appreciate all of your suggestions.

Great video. Like you, I've seen the A frame suggestions on the C-25 forum. As you know, we used another method, and I have help. LOL and as we've found, "if it can get tangled, it WILL"

Nice setup. Probably the best video I've seen yet explaining how this arrangement works. I assume you get the mast up, and the lower shrouds connected before you connect the upper stays and shroud lines? Should be easy to pull the mast forward against the aft lower shrouds, and then connect the forward lowers so you can disconnect the A-frame. Or do I have that sequence wrong?

The voice over was well executed. At least with the EMT its light weight.

Nice job, just watch the turn buckles on the stays, we bent quite a few on accident. Maybe place a roller on your back mast rest (?). I liked your winch suggestion and cleat idea.

      Yep, been there. Haha.

Good idea on the roller for the cradle. I intend not to bring the mast down unless I really need to. The cradle is HDPE which is super slippery. I had more issues with fouling stays and halyards. Old men grunt! Haha.

@@SailingAndInvesting Im about same age (55 in August). The roller keeps the mast from rotating too much. Trying to twist a mast at the castle as to set the bolt is hard, you mastered that well. Btw, i liked your other channel. I was trying to build a raspberry pi chart plotter, but I was unable to get opencpn to config. I think my pi distro needs to be another version.

    Milwaukee tools... probably a millwright!

right on, but I would not put myself to that level yet. Use Milwaukee and Bosch. A millwrite would have a better vise! Haha.

Most users will simply enjoy the sail furling function easing their day. The roller furler has two tracks to allow for a second sail to be raised for one of two situations:
    1) Racers want to have quick sail changes. They would not use the furler function (hub would be removed).
    2) a cruiser may want to have two headsails up while sailing down wind for long periods of time.
The furling tracks are 2 meter or so sections joined by an internal piece. Look up the manufacturer and find the installation manual. Then see if the part is still available.
The a-frame definitely gives the mast lateral stability needed whether on the water or on land. I use a gin pole (whisker pole) and a bridle that stabilizes the mast. The advantage to this method is all of the parts stay on the boat with little clutter. I am looking into using an a-frame with the a-frame legs can fit into my Capri 22.
BTW, I am almost 73 with a weak lower back (L4 and L5 don't stay aligned properly. I have no problems raising the mast by myself on the water, at the dock, and on the trailer. with either system.
