- After an illustrious career highlighted by three Grade One wins, Omaha Beach has retired to Spendthrift Farm. The son of War Front will lead this year's freshman class with a stud fee of $45,000. We spoke to Ned Toffey about Omaha Beach and his credentials as a sire.
What separates Omaha Beach from so many others is his versatility. During his 2019 campaign, he won at distances as short as six furlongs and as long as a mile-and-an-eighth. He was also competitive in grass races and, considering that he is a son of War Front, would have likely excelled on that surface if trainer Richard Mandella and owner Rick Porter decided to take that route.

I went to Spendthrift farm in the sixties and is still a great memory of my life. I remember Swaps,Nashua, Damascus, Semi Pro, Round table the sire of Foolish Pleasure. I forget his name. Mr Clem Brooks showed us around. I got to rub Swaps on the shoulder. I would love to come back again to see the fabulous horses there now! Highlight of my life for sure.
wow, what a Roster of all-time TALENT!! I was a kid when Damascus ran vs Fager and that was my introduction to a lifetime of watching/betting horses.... and poor Foolish Pleasure, never got the praise he deserved bc he was overshadowed by Ruffian's death.
Thanks for the memories.
Happy Retirement Omaha Beach
Happy retirement and happy days ahead with the ladies! You are gorgeous!
Ahhh we love the fact you are residing in KY.
he is the best son of war front (especially since his demeanor and conformation is so perfect along with his versatile talent)
Love the fact that the owner put the horse first by not racing him too much. Hopefully he does the same with him as a stud horse. There's enough greed in racing, where the horse is always 2nd
Iteresting, thanks.
didn't I just see Omaha was sent to Spendthrift, Aus?
Maximum security is his boss
Did they just sent him to Australia? Is that permanent?
I don't know if he went to Australia, but if he did, it's not permanent. Omaha Beach is probably a shuttle stallion, breeding both North and Southern hemisphere mares. OB would then return for the breeding season here in the States around January.
nice love the girls long time
