I think Uzume should have had an honorable mention. The way I see it, she was the true protagonist of Megadimension because the entire story primarily revolved around her and her past. She also had some of the best character development in the series and had some pretty interesting character traits. I'm still glad you picked Nepgear tho! (^_^)
Meme aside yes, Cyberdimension is basically Vert's game (she's the one who got everyone else the beta tester pass and she's the only full-time 4 Godesses Online player out of them). And I am pretty sure there's no way to claim that Victory II is not Uzume's game. Both Zero Dimension and Heart Dimension are centered on her,and the one part of the game that didn't involve her didn't have a central protagonist anyway (all four goddesses shared protagonist role for that one).

She is the "tool" to make the ball keep rolling 2/3 of the game. Heck, Adult nep got more protagonist vibe by being the "behind the curtains" character. Thought she got a momment at the end when you use uzume to fight kurome alone. Wish it were more balanced thought, i wish i could have felt the Dante vs Vergil vibes from it. Kinda hard to get that when you HAVE to heal, and every attack you do does 30ish. And believe i upgraded uzume equipment, so lack of effort was not on my side.
I kind of want to see a spinoff fighting game with Vert as the protagonist. I feel that as a gamer there would be some jokes that she could make about female clothes in those types of games.

I'd love to see another game featuring Nepgear as the protagonist again. First, MK II is one of my least favorite games in the series due to how serious it is, it doesn't really have a whole lot of the meta humor and goofy antics you would expect from Neptunia. Not that it's her fault, she just acted accordingly to whatever the situation is at hand. Nepgear's biggest strength is being able to play off of others and none of the characters in MKII are particularly funny or over the top. Now in Megadimension, Nepgear really shines after practically taking the mantle of MC for the first part of the game. Nepgear herself is a lot more developed from the second game and has Uzume and big Nep to interact and play off of. Both of whom are a lot funnier with more interesting quirks about them. My point in all of this is I think Nepgear would make for an excellent lead if given the right setting and characters to work with and I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Even if it's just a spinoff. (That and I just love her and want her to get more screen time.)

That, and my problem with mkII is that it's too serious. There was plenty of room for more banter and silly sequences within the game. Nepgear's part (w/ Uzume) in Megadimension was perfect in that it was overall fairly serious and straightforward, but still had plenty comedy and light hearted moments through out.
I played Re2 and had a blast. I think it had the perfect balance of fun and serious(I do admit I do love dark humor). Give the story line it did make sense for it to be the way it was. I do agree that Nepgaer should get to be the MC for another game(s). She was just fun to watch and play with.
I actually loved that Re;Birth 2 was semi-serious. It was a good mix, and fit Nepgear perfectly. I also felt it had just enough funny moments to keep going ( May be worth noting I do have a somewhat weird sense of humor though) And yes, I actually LOVED *that* ending. I am one of its rare fans. I wish I could experience it blind again just like the first time I saw it years ago... it shocked me pretty hard. It made me think a lot. And thats why I love it. Even without the ending in question, the whole game felt less trigger happy with the random jokes/4th wall breaking, yes. Some may think thats a negative, but personally, I thought it was neat. I honestly wouldt mind another installment with the same balance of seriousness/jokes.
Well I still like Nepgear even after the Gehaburn, she isn't my fav character (Noire will always be), but her game inspired the later games which I think is a good thing. I just wish her ending wasn't so obvious since I played a *ton* of RPGs with betrayal and such (won't say which cause spoilers).

Before watching, I would like to voice that I think Nepgear, from a character perspective, is the better protagonist of the four. Its debatable rather or not she is better than Neptune, but I would be more inclined to say she is. Why? Because simply put, she has an arc and actual development. She goes from a scared traumatized girl who spent a good chunk of time in captivity and is forced into a terrifying position after she just just lost her sister to a full fledged leader who is more than ready to do whatever it takes to defend her home. Its one of the reasons I prefer the Main and Conquest endings, they seem to fulfill that Arc and show that she is ready to become a leader.

Think I mentioned this before but despite Nep being the protag in the first game on PS3, I felt that IF was the MC of that game. Maybe cause my last memories of that game was unlocking the DLC characters in which Nep had little to no involvement in. That being said IF is my fav character only second to Nep.
Well, one could make a case for Plutia being the actual protagonist of Re;Birth 3, seeing how she gets to kick off a lot of key events -- making it another mainline game with a protagonist that isn't Neptune. Granted, this isn't an official thing, just something that one could think when looking at the story.
Don't remind me. The worst problem of Victory was precisely how much of a mary sue Iris Heart was. She literally solved every situation in the game. It sucked away all the tension in the game because you knew that no matter what everything would be solved by Iris Heart doing her usual S&M gag. And the gag itself began turning from amusing to downright disgusting, especially when it reached the end and Iris Heart was tormenting the Sisters for no reason at all (they literally did nothing except get angry at Neptune for leaving Nepgear behind, which was a valid reaction).
@@LeonGun8 I've yet to finish Victory, but as far as I've gotten, I've yet to feel any sort of stakes like I did in VII. I never attributed that to Iris Heart, but I'll have to keep that in mind next time I play and see if it rings true. Either way, I doubt it'll get me to dislike the game so much as contemplate on what could have been done better.
I've only played the normal ending so I haven't seen what Rei Ryghts and the True Ending was like, but from my experience I felt like the lack of tension was due to the villains. Re;Birth 2 is my favorite nep game story-wise since the villains were so good at delivering and maintaining tension. The Seven Sages were almost exclusively comic relief throughout the whole game, with only a few serious villain moments hap-hazardly thrown in. Re;Birth 2's story revolved around the party struggling against the villains. But in Re;Birth 3, the villains (again, aside from Rei) were just so laughably bad for 90% of the time that there was no struggle involved with big chunks of the story. The villains were the underdogs, not the other way around. That's my theory, anyway.
I really enjoyed the gameplay additions of Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls personally. It felt really close to the Re;Birth games while not actually being a part of the Re;Birth games. It also introduced a lot of QoL changes to the overall game, such as a sprint button. And yeah, I can agree that the platforming segments can feel clunky - at times I feel like the controls are too sensitive and there's practically no weight to the character as you move around (which is fine for the regular games but they don't really work for platforming), but I still feel like it was an interesting spin on the traditional Neptunia gameplay formula. It's easily my favorite spin-off Neptunia game, managed to clock well over 100 hours into the game just because I enjoyed it that much. Iffy as a main character worked really well in that game for the same reason you mentioned in the video - her rational and more logical approach to common problems is a nice contrast to Neptune's usual, over-the-top and downright silly solutions sometimes. It just felt like it had a more serious tone to it while not taking itself overly seriously, which is also, coincidentally, the same reason I enjoyed the first Neptunia game from 2010 as much as I did. also segami is just a bootleg aqua dont @ me
Things I wished in Sega Hard Girls: -Compa is also in the game, I mean she and IF are almost always together in main games -someone else besides the duo can become leader -both duo can be put out of front line so I can make party of all 4 CPU or 4 SeHa Girls in front line -each weapon has various looks like in main games, unless it's the same name -normal attack can hit multiple enemies at once like in main games

Noire is always best girl, protag for me (always set her as leader), and Cyberdimension is the best spinoff for having more characters and good gameplay, but I love them all and hope they are all in future games. Also I never really disliked Nepgear even though she isn't my fav like for you, only disliked the Gehaburn since well, it was an obvious ending for me even without spoilers.
Out of those four it's Nepgear as character. I really liked the story of Nep vs Sega Hard Girls and also enjoyed the gameplay of Hyperdevotion Noire. I really liked most of the unique characters of those two games too. But I would also say Uzume is the protagonist of her game. She's the one who actually leads the storyflow. She wouldn't be number one though but only slightly behind Nepgear. I really enjoyed the short period when they were all by themselves in the first part of the game. They really would be a nice couple.
Out of the 4 characters listed, Nepgear is the best in my opinion. I loved her character development. I didn't mind the fact that the MK2 was very serious, infact I was kinda glad there was a change of mood.
While some might say I'd pick Nepgear because she's my favorite character. The only reason Nepgear is my favorite, and Uni being #2 for that matter, is because of how much I liked Re;Birth 2. (I've only played Neptunia games that are on steam.) My second favorite non-Neptune protag would be Blanc.
For me Nep Nep is the best protagonist of all time because i love 4th wall breaking and yes Noire too, but the problem is self-insert seems odd... kinda wish there was another Noire game with full of yuri genre.
Basically with Noire game they did a FE7 throw in a character that's supposed to be you like Mark the Taction they talk you but you don't have any interaction

Blank is my main favorite followed by Ram, Plutia and Nepgear. But i played the mayorite of the neptune franchise, and sometimes it makes you wander y i should change favorite neptunia character. Also in the second poll of neptune characters IF get second place, maeby that's the reason to get her own spinoff game but not with her name in the game.
it's definitely Nepgear so far since aside from what you already said MKII left a unique impact and shows that HDN can be handled in various ways aside from just comedy ranging from from drama to emotional and while the conquest ending remains controversial which on that note I do believe given how long it's been it's a good time to go over what is it about the conquest ending that sets people off. in terms of over all series that have had similar situations happen as an ending... I've seen and played School Days so what else you got? in terms of neptune as a franchise... while definitely dark and forboding and you do see deaths happen which We've seen happen in the original and even had it mentioned in other neptune main title games at least when you hit the bad ending routes anyway so again what else you got? maybe it's the tone? maybe it's the way it was handled? but overall I think the conquest ending deserves to be a topic in itself since despite people's complaints about it there's no denying like everything else about MKII still affects how other neptune titles are handled in terms of story.

I kind of wanna see a sequel to Superdimention Neptunia VS Sega Hard Girls, with better gameplay, graphics and everything. Plus, I also just wanna see the Sega Hard Girls again. They deserve their own game!
That's the thing, who is then the protagonist of Megadimension? Who you control is just your point of view to the story. And we have several characters who we control through the game anyway. So, in the overall plot of Megadimension, who is the character who has to face the decisions of the main story and face it's consequences? And who is the character who is directly opposed to the Antagonist? Hint: It is def not Neptune (Nepgear has a far more important role in the overall story than she does).
i like rebirth 2 over mk2 not only because they fixed a bunch of thing but because the added another ending to make sense of the conquest ending. I remember people yelling "it makes no sense , eveyone was friends and suddenly makes a turn and become enemies" but in the holy sword ending nepgear says that the sword was cursed and blinded everyone's will , they are buddies until they find the sword and then start acting different right after that. IF is a character i like but if feeled dumb in that game , most of the choices she made in the game are bad ones. other characters state how she does dumb things like "how could you not notice right away that wasn't chika?" the reason why people hated mk2 and rebirth 2 was because they changed from the machine of puns neptune to the normal and boring girl nepgear , what they don't know is that most of the jokes comes from the translation from japanese to english where they add jokes that aren't there. in mk2 and rebirth 2 they kinda followed what the girls says in the real script and only make neptune make silly jokes that they added over what she really says. I don't like nepgear that much but i have to say she was the best protagonist
Holy sword felt pointless to me. They had a good idea of Nepgear realizing something is wrong and altering the events, but the fact it's more or less a copy of the true ending just feels like a slap in the face. Especially after all the grinding you have to do to get it, it's just not worth it and nothing would have changed if it didn't exist. Was Neptune really a pun machine in the original Neptunia? I remember her being one in R;B1, but she was relatively serious in the original, with the occasional jokes.
There's quite a few to choose from. For me, it's a tie between Nepgear, Iffy, Vert and Plutia. While I adore other characters, they lack at least one key quality that I find important for my type of protagonist to have. Noire's too tsundere for my liking and tries too hard not to be personable. Same with Blanc though she's more of a kuudere. Rom and Ram are cute and friendly but they aren't old enough to be the main protagonist. Compa's cute and friendly too but she lacks the toughness and combat skills needed to be the main protagonist. Uni seems to rotate between being a tsundere and being shy though she's got potential to be the main protagonist and will likely end up becoming a type B tsundere /the type whose openly friendly and caring but has bouts of concealing their true feelings/ rather then the type A tsundere like Noire /the type whose hard and hostile on the outside but warm and soft on the inside/.

Noire was strategy, which makes sense, and Blanc was an indie-film action RPG set in high school, and, uh, at least the indie-film part makes sense. I just gotta find the right hook for Plutia. Also I liked the sega heart girls better cause we had new characters. It's rare to get new characters and I loved the characters. The time aspect made the game hard to play not even the fact you had to grind more and more
I'll rather have the bigger Nep, best of both worlds. Sillyness with a touch of maturity, the downside is that she will probably accept bad outcomes more than CPU Nep, Hope is there but she alone can't quite Fuel it up.
My favorite is Plutia but I feel like rebirth 3 wasn’t as much about plutia as it was plutia and Neptune. I think Blanc was the best protag, though. I feel like it was a side of her I’ve never really seen before, and I think she got what she deserved, idk
my favourite character of Neptunia generally speaking is Blanc and just for that i bought Megatagmension, but the game isn't that great in my opinion, it's funny but too repetitive about Hyperdevotion Noire, it's really funny and i like all its missions, even if i don't find Noire so interesting as a character
The fact that there's a character for "the player" in hyperdevotion is the main thing that's stopping me from playing it further (that and the dumb framerate lock, if someone knows of a way to remove it please tell me) since the character of "the player" doesn't fit me or what I would do at all. I'd personally argue that Uzume is the protagonist of Megadimension. and with that I'd call her the best. I found Neptunia vs Sega Hard Girls kind of difficult to play since I kept just being annihilated by bosses in one attack, haven't played it since I tried it out then. so all this long-winded comment was trying to say is that my favourite none-neptune protagonist is Uzume, and if she doesn't count then probably Nepgear. and that my favourite none-neptune-as-protagonist-game has to be Megatagmension Blanc + Neptune vs Zombies

It seems to me Cyberdimencion aka the one where they get sucked into an MMO and get pure goddess alter egos was Vert's game/ I think her fans are just a bit salty cause her name wasn't in the title/ but anyway I'd say I like Uzume best as she's both the main protagonest and her counter[art is the main antagonist behind the whole thing..

Well I'm biased towards IF considering she's my waifu, and I didn't really like mk2/rb2 nepgear BECAUSE she is too serious and thus lack personality(she's better after the machinery obsession). Also I'm an IFxVert fan, so Compa not being in sega hard girls doesn't bother me but I'm bothered about Vert just forgetting IF's cp totally.

I know I'm in the minority but I love how mk2 had the in game models for conversations and cut scenes. Made it feel more emotive

The Seven Sages were almost exclusively comic relief throughout the whole game, with only a few serious villain moments hap-hazardly thrown in.
Re;Birth 2's story revolved around the party struggling against the villains. But in Re;Birth 3, the villains (again, aside from Rei) were just so laughably bad for 90% of the time that there was no struggle involved with big chunks of the story. The villains were the underdogs, not the other way around. That's my theory, anyway.

I really enjoyed the gameplay additions of Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls personally. It felt really close to the Re;Birth games while not actually being a part of the Re;Birth games. It also introduced a lot of QoL changes to the overall game, such as a sprint button. And yeah, I can agree that the platforming segments can feel clunky - at times I feel like the controls are too sensitive and there's practically no weight to the character as you move around (which is fine for the regular games but they don't really work for platforming), but I still feel like it was an interesting spin on the traditional Neptunia gameplay formula. It's easily my favorite spin-off Neptunia game, managed to clock well over 100 hours into the game just because I enjoyed it that much. Iffy as a main character worked really well in that game for the same reason you mentioned in the video - her rational and more logical approach to common problems is a nice contrast to Neptune's usual, over-the-top and downright silly solutions sometimes. It just felt like it had a more serious tone to it while not taking itself overly seriously, which is also, coincidentally, the same reason I enjoyed the first Neptunia game from 2010 as much as I did.

Things I wished in Sega Hard Girls:
-Compa is also in the game, I mean she and IF are almost always together in main games
-someone else besides the duo can become leader
-both duo can be put out of front line so I can make party of all 4 CPU or 4 SeHa Girls in front line
-each weapon has various looks like in main games, unless it's the same name
-normal attack can hit multiple enemies at once like in main games

Noire is always best girl, protag for me (always set her as leader), and Cyberdimension is the best spinoff for having more characters and good gameplay, but I love them all and hope they are all in future games. Also I never really disliked Nepgear even though she isn't my fav like for you, only disliked the Gehaburn since well, it was an obvious ending for me even without spoilers.
Neptune is best protagonist sure she can be lazy ,quirky, but she lovable in the games.
Out of those four it's Nepgear as character. I really liked the story of Nep vs Sega Hard Girls and also enjoyed the gameplay of Hyperdevotion Noire. I really liked most of the unique characters of those two games too.
But I would also say Uzume is the protagonist of her game. She's the one who actually leads the storyflow. She wouldn't be number one though but only slightly behind Nepgear. I really enjoyed the short period when they were all by themselves in the first part of the game. They really would be a nice couple.

Out of the 4 characters listed, Nepgear is the best in my opinion. I loved her character development. I didn't mind the fact that the MK2 was very serious, infact I was kinda glad there was a change of mood.
While some might say I'd pick Nepgear because she's my favorite character. The only reason Nepgear is my favorite, and Uni being #2 for that matter, is because of how much I liked Re;Birth 2. (I've only played Neptunia games that are on steam.) My second favorite non-Neptune protag would be Blanc.

For me Nep Nep is the best protagonist of all time because i love 4th wall breaking and yes Noire too, but the problem is self-insert seems odd... kinda wish there was another Noire game with full of yuri genre.

Blank is my main favorite followed by Ram, Plutia and Nepgear. But i played the mayorite of the neptune franchise, and sometimes it makes you wander y i should change favorite neptunia character. Also in the second poll of neptune characters IF get second place, maeby that's the reason to get her own spinoff game but not with her name in the game.

it's definitely Nepgear so far since aside from what you already said MKII left a unique impact and shows that HDN can be handled in various ways aside from just comedy ranging from from drama to emotional and while the conquest ending remains controversial which on that note I do believe given how long it's been it's a good time to go over what is it about the conquest ending that sets people off. in terms of over all series that have had similar situations happen as an ending... I've seen and played School Days so what else you got? in terms of neptune as a franchise... while definitely dark and forboding and you do see deaths happen which We've seen happen in the original and even had it mentioned in other neptune main title games at least when you hit the bad ending routes anyway so again what else you got?
maybe it's the tone? maybe it's the way it was handled? but overall I think the conquest ending deserves to be a topic in itself since despite people's complaints about it there's no denying like everything else about MKII still affects how other neptune titles are handled in terms of story.

That's the thing, who is then the protagonist of Megadimension? Who you control is just your point of view to the story. And we have several characters who we control through the game anyway. So, in the overall plot of Megadimension, who is the character who has to face the decisions of the main story and face it's consequences? And who is the character who is directly opposed to the Antagonist? Hint: It is def not Neptune (Nepgear has a far more important role in the overall story than she does).

i like rebirth 2 over mk2 not only because they fixed a bunch of thing but because the added another ending to make sense of the conquest ending.
I remember people yelling "it makes no sense , eveyone was friends and suddenly makes a turn and become enemies"
but in the holy sword ending nepgear says that the sword was cursed and blinded everyone's will , they are buddies until they find the sword and then start acting different right after that.
IF is a character i like but if feeled dumb in that game , most of the choices she made in the game are bad ones. other characters state how she does dumb things like "how could you not notice right away that wasn't chika?"
the reason why people hated mk2 and rebirth 2 was because they changed from the machine of puns neptune to the normal and boring girl nepgear , what they don't know is that most of the jokes comes from the translation from japanese to english where they add jokes that aren't there. in mk2 and rebirth 2 they kinda followed what the girls says in the real script and only make neptune make silly jokes that they added over what she really says.

Holy sword felt pointless to me. They had a good idea of Nepgear realizing something is wrong and altering the events, but the fact it's more or less a copy of the true ending just feels like a slap in the face. Especially after all the grinding you have to do to get it, it's just not worth it and nothing would have changed if it didn't exist.
Was Neptune really a pun machine in the original Neptunia? I remember her being one in R;B1, but she was relatively serious in the original, with the occasional jokes.
There's quite a few to choose from. For me, it's a tie between Nepgear, Iffy, Vert and Plutia. While I adore other characters, they lack at least one key quality that I find important for my type of protagonist to have.
Noire's too tsundere for my liking and tries too hard not to be personable.
Same with Blanc though she's more of a kuudere.
Rom and Ram are cute and friendly but they aren't old enough to be the main protagonist.
Compa's cute and friendly too but she lacks the toughness and combat skills needed to be the main protagonist.
Uni seems to rotate between being a tsundere and being shy though she's got potential to be the main protagonist and will likely end up becoming a type B tsundere /the type whose openly friendly and caring but has bouts of concealing their true feelings/ rather then the type A tsundere like Noire /the type whose hard and hostile on the outside but warm and soft on the inside/.

Also I liked the sega heart girls better cause we had new characters. It's rare to get new characters and I loved the characters. The time aspect made the game hard to play not even the fact you had to grind more and more

my favourite character of Neptunia generally speaking is Blanc and just for that i bought Megatagmension, but the game isn't that great in my opinion, it's funny but too repetitive
about Hyperdevotion Noire, it's really funny and i like all its missions, even if i don't find Noire so interesting as a character
The fact that there's a character for "the player" in hyperdevotion is the main thing that's stopping me from playing it further (that and the dumb framerate lock, if someone knows of a way to remove it please tell me) since the character of "the player" doesn't fit me or what I would do at all. I'd personally argue that Uzume is the protagonist of Megadimension. and with that I'd call her the best. I found Neptunia vs Sega Hard Girls kind of difficult to play since I kept just being annihilated by bosses in one attack, haven't played it since I tried it out then. so all this long-winded comment was trying to say is that my favourite none-neptune protagonist is Uzume, and if she doesn't count then probably Nepgear. and that my favourite none-neptune-as-protagonist-game has to be Megatagmension Blanc + Neptune vs Zombies

For gameplay wise Superdimension is really fun to play. Exploring the dungeon thoroughly is rewarding and the story is hilarious.
