I have these little black and white ones with green, iridescent fangs right outside my house. Each summer, they make little nests under the rocks and I love looking at them.

I’ve raised so many sacs so far and separate them as soon as they leave it, I have a 75-80% survival rate and even a 95% one at one time when a sac gave me over 120 babies. It’s tedious feeding so many babies separately but worth it if you want that high survival rate.

What fruit fly species do you use to feed the babies first? And is there a better option for pouring fruit flies? And what size portion cups should you use for the babies?

    • @cynthiaraaijmakers9391
      @cynthiaraaijmakers9391 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@TwoJaysMoon I use melangastor fruit flies first, when they molt twice then I switch to hydei. I use 1oz sample cups for my babies. I pour fruit flies into a small plastic shoe box and from there I dump them into a screw cap small container. From there I tap them out like your adding spices to a dish into each spider container.

As far as separating- they do better if together until i4 but need to be separated then…. What I do is actually instead of keeping them all together… I put them in groups of like 6 to 8… And then separate out as they molt to i4. Makes separating easy as well since they molt at different times.
I do feed daily or every other at latest. I also mist daily with a fine mist spray bottle. 🖤 but do what works for you. Love your channel.

(1)I heard your channel mentioned on the _Leopard Gecko_ channel. This video also appeared on my YT app, and it is the first video of yours I have watched. Subbed...👍
    (2) Do NOT apologize for not being enthusiastic about speaking on camera. QUITE OFTEN I find speaking -- even when by myself -- to be more of a burden than it is worth. REALLY.
    (3) While I and never really considered a having a pet spider, I had a pet boa constrictor named _"Fred"_ for a couple of years back in the late 80s/early 90s. As long as a 'pet' will not/cannot bite me -- or at least is UNLIKELY to bite me -- I am cool with it.
I was much more afraid of the rats I fed to _Fred_ than I ever was of _Fred_ himself.

Awesome. I wish I could get one of the babies but I'm on the other side of the country. Only species of jumper we have here is P. californicus. They're are a lot smaller and not as cool looking, they're just gray and white so they camouflage on concrete. They don't seem to have as many of the interesting behaviors that larger species do either, though their hunting is still really cool. Plus I haven't seen one in person in a few years.
We have tons of Aphonopelma iodius though, they get massacred trying to cross roads.

Kat, you are totally getting a handle on raising up the babies! You have the vision and fine motor skills coupled with patience and a caring nature necessary to make it work.
Honing your skills and developing the techniques every day it seems. Kudos to you for that!
I tend to agree with the assessment that cannibalism is occurring among the slings.
Notice the size difference, rate of development between brood mates; obviously some will grow faster than others, but I'd wager that the ones that are further along will feed upon the smaller and/or slower siblings. With your ever increasing experience you will gain a sense of when to start separating. Thanks for sharing this with us despite feeling under the weather. Feel better soon!!

Get a taller container for the fruit flies so they can't crawl out as quickly after you pour them out and make a few holes about the size of the flies on the lid. So basically you use it like a salt shaker but for fruit flies lol

ok, so... First of all, I don't think I would ever own a spider but I think they are one of the most important animals in the world, I try to never kill one, and try to always leave them alone or relocate them whenever I find one in my bedroom.
I have recently seen a couple of jumping spiders in my bedroom and I left them alone because it's summer and they will help me with insects in the bedroom. However! they multiplied and I have seen a lot of baby jumping spiders all over the place!
    My questions are:
How do these babies survive? what do they eat? (I don't have fruit flies my in bedroom)
    How can I feed them?
I most definitely killed some while I sleep or accidentally... How should I avoid that?
Is it ok to pick up adult jumping spiders? or do they bite?
Should I try to put them in enclosures?
I feel bad for cleaning their webs... =(

AFAIK jumping spiders commonly prey on other spiders in the wild so I'd assume cannibalism among siblings is a thing.

My little jumping spider is brow and black with I think her dots on her back are going to be either yellow or white not to sure yet because of its size! But it’s because of your videos that I have gotten over my fears of spiders and now have my very own jumping spider and her name is Charlotte! 🕷❤️❤️❤️🥰

Did you spray them? 10 live babies left at that very young age of at most, second instar, is really low. I just passed 4th instar with 3 seperate clutches, all of witch have had no more than 2 deaths each thus far, kept amd fed communally. They need to be sprayed every other day, and mandatory on the day they emerge, that they get to drink. This dramatically improves mortality rates. Thanks for the content, I love seeing someone else learning this with me.

Hi. So I have a tiny tiny tiny jumping spider. I've never seen one this small. I've never had to feed one at this size. But i was out side on my fly traps and I did not want it to get eaten so I adopted it. It's white ish green. I thought maybe a magnolia greed jumping spider. But it's so tiny. What would you recommend feeding it?

I literally just had a really friendly baby jumping spider in my home in UK, I didn't think you could even get them here lol I really wanna keep it but would this be cruel as it's totally wild? Also how can I give it it's best life, food habitat etc?

Feel better Kat! Another really cool video, those little jumping spiders really have personality.
" I'm very similar to fruit flies" lmao 😅😅 . You're the best.
