      tarantula kat what's your opinion on vertebrates as feeders,like geckos,frogs and pinky mice. I use them,when I can get them and I have no ethical issues with it at all,food is food.

    I have a little story to tell about superworms.
    A while ago I purchased a "female" C.cyaneopubescens and since it was way too small to eat adult dubias, I'd always feed it Superworms.
    Sometimes the worms would just dig down into the substrate, but I was certain they all were eaten soon after, as the T. was rapidly growing. Just one molt before he'd emerge as a mature male (I was scammed, I guess), I discovered some chunks of crumbled, black chitin in the webbing. That night I looked to maybe see what it was and when I heard a loud crunch from his enclosure, I discovered that a hand full of superworms had developed into beetles and were hiding behind the corkbark background, from where they emerged at night time. The spider had then been feeding upon the adult beetles when they came by and luckily consumed them all before the final molt.
    Thanks for reading everyone. :)

    Dubia roaches can indeed attack/eat your T when molting. My Acanthoscurria Geniculata died because of one. Right after her molt she got bit in her abdomen and juice leaked out. I only discovered after I came home from work.

      that's why I decapitate roaches upon feeding. The damned thing would still be alive, but it would be harmless ahahah

    • @helloforever3046
      @helloforever3046 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah... i'm always confused when people say roaches are harmless to other creatures.
      or when people say roaches wont hurt each other....that it's safe to keep males together.
      My two male hissers fought a lot at night. But since I was told they can't harm each other during fighting(and that them fighting is normal and ok), I didn't separate them. Then one day I saw that one of them was missing half of it's other antenna(i hope i'm using the right word). Yeah... I separated them that day. And have kept them apart since. But I'm worried they suffer from solitude now. Can they even? I know they for sure would love to be with a female! but I do not want any babies.
      Also I have seen is some roach videos that some of the roaches(that are being housed together) are missing the tips of their legs, their 'toes' so to speak.
      So yeah... I've come to the conclusion that roaches AREN'T harmless to others

    Most ppl overfeed their tarantulas and feed them with wrong things. My huge L. parahybana ist nearly 16 years old. Only with a few crickets per month ...

I’m in Australia so no locusts or horn gummy bear worms lol. Only have Something called woodies… not dubia or red runners. Same same though. Cool recording though. Feels like a community here with Ts. Not just TH-cam Channels. Watch this space through. Just saying.

    I use two different types of roaches for feeding; dubias and Cuban lobster roaches. The lobster roaches spawn quite emensely, and their nymphs are small enough for most of the tiniest slings. There was a mother redrunner in the shipment of lobster roaches, and it has layed an ootheca, so that will be a nice 3rd roach for feeding. I pretty much quit on crickets and mealworms. Crickets are low yield, and they are tricky to breed. Roaches are better for both reasons. You don’t need to bother cleaning out the roach excrement/frass as the nymphs feed on it for nutrients. So long as it doesn’t get moldy, it is fine.

  • @toottootbleetbleet

    I love using dubia but they also have a habit of borrowing or not moving when they are first put into the Ts enclosure

  • @chloewright1
    @chloewright1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    4:50 you shouldn't leave ANYTHING in with your tarantula if it's molting! Crickets especially, but anything that's running around the enclosure can cause your tarantula stress, which in turn can cause a bad molt.

    My favorite is still the red runner. Your pal probably tries to grab them with tongs. Not me! I take a vial that slings come in and a paint brush to do the job. I simply direct the roach into the vial with the paint brush. It may take me three or four tries, but it always works. Then I dump the roach out in front of the T. If it escapes, I let out a maniacal laugh and redirect the Roach toward the T with my paint brush. I have way too much fun doing that. I am ashamed to say I haven't tried superworms yet. Should I try them dipped in hot sauce?

  • @Connor_JR
    @Connor_JR 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Out of curiosity, why do you have your pokie enclosures 'upside-down' (it seems to me). The way you have them would make sense for Avics because they web a lot at the top so you wouldn't want to destroy it every time you fed them, but it looks like it makes feeding pokies really awkward?

  • @LorienInksong

    If you keep crickets on a small amount of vermiculite as a substrate it really helps keep the smell down. I'm not great at breeding them but I'm pretty good at keeping them alive and growing them.
    Red runners... I wish I was less good at breeding those. So many of my tarantulas dislike them.... ;_;

  • @DanXDelion
    @DanXDelion 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Crickets: keep them like pets, add some substrate (bird sand), hides (egg cartons) and food (fruits&veggies), and clean them from time to time (every other week or less), and they will live for months. And no, they won't reproduce, because they will eat their eggs (if you don't make an effort to prevent that). The only downside that remains is their chirping ;)

    The Pokies enclosure look so awkward to feed, can’t you just turn the enclosure upside down so the smaller section is in turn a lid?

      I have a juvie S. calcateum and a H. mac in the same type of enclosures, and I just took a step drill bit to make a hole at the top to drop food into, and then used an appropriate sized rubber stopper to keep the hole closed up. Step drill bits are the best to keep that sort of plastic from cracking, in my experience.

    Do you crush the heads of the superworms before you feed them to your t's? I wasn't sure if that was a thing that everybody did or not.

    Can I ask why don't you put the tall enclosure up the other way? large part on the bottom small section on the top, then maybe it would be easier for you to open!

    Really good video 👍
    I feed my ts crickets (btw if u house them the right way they do live a long time and that's why i like them) and i have tried superworms many times but somehow my ts - dont really like them? Most of them wont eat superworms at all, and the rest are just really hesitant. Even one of my a. geniculatas wont eat them 😐 But the other takes superworms just fine. It's just a bit weird for so many of them to be so picky.
