Nice one Ben & Mark. OMG, I hate that question... I get it all the time when I give a public speech. My stock answer is, "I'll tell you in 20 years". So based on that requirement, my Kyocera 125W panels now 25 years old... are still peforming fine.
It’s a shame such a good brand went cheap. I went to the P series factory in China. Quality control was a major concern. I then asked if they would independently test the panel. That confirmed my suspicions on build quality. I’ve also had heaps of people tell me they had issues in the field.
@@mcelectricalinteresting? How come the p6 range topped the PV labs ACT government sponsored testing? Happy to provide the link for people to see how panels all really stack up ?
nice insite on panels, any thoughts on the bifacial panels like suntech? that has no backing sheets glass on glass, not worried about the potential performance gain aspect.
When I had LG panels installed, I thought I would pay a bit more for a quality panel whose manufacturer would be around for the long run... How wrong I was. The panels are still working fine though. Then had a second system put on and went for QCells, Guess what? I seem to have cursed a second manufacturer. Same for the QCells.
the price per watt of panels you are likely referring to is achievable from likely forced labor countries and practices of which are now being investigated. Some countries (UK) are even discussing banning panel from import who can not prove and meet enquiry standards.

Now that’s an interesting panel. We’ll have a short video about them in a few days. I’ve been comparison testing them for a few weeks. That video will come out soon too.
It’s very interesting indeed. Interesting how a company can market a lot of spin out of a little win. Dynamic peak management probably has nothing to do with it.
I’m doing a shade comparison with Aiko vs Canadian at the moment. Very interesting results. Watch this space! Give me 2 more weeks max and I’ll make a video on the results
These Chinese warranties are a joke in my experience. I bought 4 rack mount batteries from SOK Europe. Turns out they probably aren't in Europe and they refuse to honour their warranty as clearly stated on their website. They even accused me of lying about the faults on the batteries even though their engineer had remotely accessed them to try a fix and failed. In the end they agreed to send me new BMS boards, that I have to install myself. Still waiting for them to arrive. SOK in the US is probably a better proposition as they have a proper US distributor. I would advise against buying from SOK Europe based on my very poor and expensive experience with them.
Hey John, I don’t think that’s really what we say. The main panel we sell is Canadian. I think here we were fairly objective : 9:05 . I even call out the build quality and the shade warranty issue of Canadian during the video.
@@markcavanagh You have a pretty tough gig , researching and testing everything you use and then find out later that the manufacturer changes things and the quality turns to sheet. Having a quality product is only one thing , getting a supplier that backs up their warranty is another thing altogether , like many suppliers out there , the factory simply stops replying to emails and we get left with debt on our hands. The problem occurs in all sectors of infrastructure , not just solar.
You guys are clowning. You use anything but Chinese designed and made panels, and all that the euro designed stuff has done is bit you in the ass. Unfortunately there is no was anything out of Germany is ever going to compete with the Chinese stuff, hence why there leaving the market. That 2.5k extra you would spend on a cells would get you a whole extra string

Ha Exactly Glen. I wonder how you would have gone trying to claim a warranty on Kyocera after 24 years ;)
@@markcavanagh well, Kyocera solar are still in business as are the Rainbow Power Company who I bought them from!
Hi Guys, looking forward to the Aiko Neostar panels test & thoughts.
I'm sorry you've had crap experience with Sunpower panels, their P7 range is a beautiful product.

Yeh, that’s why I sold Qcells for so long. It’s a gamble.
Do you have astronergy panels there... really good build quality production performance
I’ve never installed Astronogy. I’ve got the impression they are a “tier 2” panel. Maybe not?
So price per watt is not an issue to you? To have a panel 1% better but 200% more expensive is not important
Hey Paul, at 8:27 we discuss the price of the panel and say that rec isn’t for everyone

Did you watch the whole of this video, or just fail to take in all that was said?

Is that the S2 range with the cell level shade control?
Would be very keen to see how that works with the Fronius Dynamic Peak Management

@@markcavanagh How soon are you likely to release this video? Currently tossing up between the Aiko and REC.
@@guyhunt4464 sneak peak. Go REC. Hopefully next week
How’s Suntech these days ? They have managed to survive but not seeing them mentioned much.
They are doing well, I am based in Australia and see them achieving great sales volume in rooftop and utility scale segments!
I haven’t seem much of them either. Unsure
Is that a winaico ngx d3 behind (left) of you guys?
No I think on the left is just a Canadian 440.
@markcavanagh Ok makes sense given the discussion! They do look very similar though
What is a smart meter, and should I buy one?

Yeh many warranties are not worth the paper…
I was under the impression the latest REC panels are made in Singapore?
Yes they are and always have been as far as I know
So its the best panel you sell ? Come on guys, can't you be a bit more objective. I must say I have lost respect for MC Electrical this year :(
