  • Replacing the very old and desperately in need of a change fuel filter on my recently imported 1997 Toyota Hiace Super Custom G.
    YES if it looks like I'm shaking always it's because the engine is in the middle of the car so I'm leaning over, while trying not to bump the camera and work.

    Awesome video with some great tips! I replaced the fuel filter in my (new to me!) '95 SCL according to your guide here and it was a piece of cake. The only hiccup came when i squirted myself in the face with a bit of diesel when bleeding the air out of that last hose. Dont forget the safety glasses yall!

    I just replaced my filter but ran into the following issue: I pre-filled the filter and also topped off both fuel hoses/lines, after assembling everything I started to manually prime the system for at least 5 minutes without the output line connected but the plunger just won´t get hard and no fuel squirts out. When blocking the output with my finger I don´t feel any pressure building up so no additional diesel is being sucked in from the tank.
    According to some forums the manual priming mechanism can go bad, is there any way to (safely, especially for the engine) prime the system without using the manual priming pump?

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate,
      Open the fuel filler cap, leave the fuel to engine hose off the filter.
      Slowly blow compressed air into the fuel tank from the filler. Use a rag as a seal.
      Do it until fuel comes out the outlet on the filter.
      Unfortunately allot of people treat a primer pump as a fix it all magic button. They prime the absolute shit out of it whenever the car won't start and hence it destroys it.
      You should be able to get a replacement. If your in the states you can try the Hiace owners north America page or amayama or partsouq.

      @1I2am3Dani4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathansharma87 Interestingly enough when I submerge both the inlet and outlet connection into a cup of diesel and start pumping there are bubbles rising up from both sides and you can slowly feel some pressure building up (so the pump clearly still is doing something), but as soon as everything is back in the car and all lines are connected it gradually gets softer again with every pump even after "priming" the line from the tank with the compressed air trick.

      @1I2am3Dani4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nathansharma87 So quick update, I primed the system with compressed air and just completely ignored that stupid priming pump. She started right up afterwards (no coughing) and idled without issues for 5 minutes, today I drove around for ~12 miles also without any issues so your tip worked like a charm, thanks a lot!

    There really aren't very many resources available for the kz100s. I'm at new owner of a super custom 94 turbo diesel and in America. I was able to find a filter for my oil change but would you mind sharing the specific oil type you use for your changes? Thanks so much.

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      10W40 or 15W40 if you live in a warmer state.
      Use only diesel engine oil. Doesn't matter if it's mineral of synthetic, I prefer synthetic or semi synthetic.
      Make sure the oil is API CF4 certified or its direct replacement equivalent.

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are separate units so the issue won't be connected.
      In my general experience with cars there could be 4 issues.
      1) The nozzle is clogged.
      2) Someone put windscreen polish instead of windscreen wash blocking up the nozzle and lines.
      3) The internal hose connecting the nozzle has disconnected
      4) The motor is worn out even if it's working.
      I'd look at those things and work my way through.

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Motor should be in the reservoir underneath the car in front of the front passenger wheel for the front windscreen at least.
      As for the hoses, you'd likely have to remove the glove box and start looking and feeling your way around.

    Any advice on how to lower idle rpm , 2.8 Diesel .
    Currently sits just above 1000 , lowers when aircon active .

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idle adjustment screw on diesel injection pump. Should be 750rpm idle and 900 idle with ac. Might also have AC idle diaphragm to increase rpm automatically. Make sure there is no idle up button inside engaged or manual engine idle up twist knob that's set for high idle first. Don't over fuel it, can run away. Recommend having a diesel tech do it.

    Is the fuel filter location the same for a 2003 model Hiace or is this one specific to your "import" model ?

    • @nathansharma87
      @nathansharma87  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it has a 1kz it should be the same. Regardless of what engine or filter location changing the fuel filter should be the same so long as it's the same spin on type of filter.
