I’ve been living the hardest few years of my life and when I start to lose hope I’ve been turning to Holiday’s content. It’s been tremendously helpful.
As an injured/ disabled man I have taken time few can to learn and grow, years I wish everyone had to build a personality and moral code that would have benefited me greatly when I was able bodied and reliable. When my body became the problem, I became the problem and that was very apparent to me as well as others as my resilience gave way to pain leading to dissociative traits and executive decline, this freed me from many needs or wants in life simplifying my mind and perspective. Medications have dulled the pain and restored some functionality, giving me hope as I figure out how to fit in now that I am a different person, fighting a battle that will never be profitable hoping I can put my brain to work and be a productive member of society again. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Thank you for your words and efforts, they will guide society and mould the future.
Internal advocate and friend, this is the single most important element of upward mobility. If you make it, don't forget to reach back and lift others.

This was a great conversation. I am a strong middle aged woman. We need more strong men in this world. No woman wants a wimp, we want protection and masculinity without physical abuse or toxicity. I know I'm raising my son to be thoughtful, yet strong and wealthy so he can carry on the legacy that myself and my husband are building. We need to stop the narrative that tears down our men and call them racists or shames them. It's a fact that there's more women graduating from higher education and this is a trend that needs to be addressed. We need real men that are strong, courageous, intelligent, and love their wives and children. Women are evolving and men need to also! And it's up to us parents to help raise these young men to lead the way.
@7:40 i think this is part of the reason Walz was chosen. He was a coach, he hunts, he works on his vehicle, and respects women. I think they just have to lean into those traits a bit more and they can win over so many of the young men.
This past weekend. Post hurricane, second in two weeks. I listened/watched to a group of 5 young men/boys use axes and a machete to hack into a metal shed for 2 hours. The reason they were bating on this shed was because a tree had fallen into the alley and partly on the shed. As they were going I wondered what they were doing. Later I realized what it was all about. Guidance, mentorship in which they had none. I failed them. Myself not having the incite to realize what was happening. They had a desire to help, and the energy of young men to aid them in that effort but what they were lacking was direction. I am them/They are I.
What a lovely discussion. As a black female millennial, I understand there’s a lot of problems in today’s society. However, had I been born my mom’s generation I would be married and a working mom with kids who I would pass on generational trauma to. Without social media I don’t think a lot of women to understand the importance of independence. Our parents had us young before their frontal loads were fully developed. And they passed on generational trauma. The access to mental health did not exist the way it does now. The fact that we are able to see all of these issues in real time means at least we can be aware of the problem. Generations ago people had to suffer in silence. They probably didn’t even understand the issues going on even though they were affected by it. And it sucks to have all of that information and doom scrolling coming at you 24 hours a day. Without discovering these issues exist at all, there is no fixing. I think my generation needs to be coddled instead of pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and trying to find the silver lining even in the shittiest of situation. But frankly life has not been easy for me and in the past few years learning to do that has lifted, decades of depression that I’ve dealt with. Maybe this won’t fix our generation. And that’s often the way it works. But I do think that the potential to move to the better society is a lot easier now. Whether or not we access those opportunities is completely different.
I train a lot of Gen Z in my profession and I have gotten to know what motivates them. It is no different from other generations. The bottom line is money. Galloway is right. The biggest difference is that they can't invest into affordable housing. When I travel the world, I realize how expensive the United States has become to live. When you have to live at home in your twenties, it has an adverse effect on Gen Z. It makes them feel like they are not a part of the American Dream.

So, who decides that someone has "enough" money? That's the part that no one talks about. It's nice to envision some system where we put a cap on how much money an individual can have, but someone has to decide what that is. How is Scott Galloway going to feel when those deciders tell him anything more the 5 million is too much? He's fine setting the limit slightly above where he is, everyone is fine doing that. No one is okay when that limit is less money than what they have. And who is Scott Galloway to tell us that anything more than he's comfortable with is too much for anyone?
Scott: Stoicism is about controlling your emotions. No, its not. Its about understanding emotions and why you're quick to anxiety, anger, fear etc. Once you understand it, you can take steps to break those false beliefs that cause it. You dont control how you feel. You take action. That general statement is why so many people think Stoicism is about bottling your emotions and never showing them as a man.
I feel like a lot of the problems discussed (and glossed over to be frank) is a lack of proper reflection. Not just on the inner self, but the outer world we interact with. All the digital devices we have do not help this; time that we used to have as humans classified as 'boredom' has now been taken over by screens of varying sizes vying for our attention and thoughts. This lack of self-reflection is leading people to points that are not only incorrect when looking at the macro, but also jumping to conclusions that are not thought out nor can stand the first whirlwind that comes their way.

You’re missing the point about being conservative at older age. Its not about being heartless its about wanting to reign in government spending and let society take care of itself without government interference. Take collega/universities for example. Since the implementation of student loans what happened to prices of these universities? They’ve gone way up. What happened when government spending was below 10% of gdp? Rich people founded colleges and universities just to give back to society. Conservaties want to help others, just not through the most inefficient way that is called government. On taxes though; the top 5% earners pay 80% of all tax revenue. The bottem 50% only pay 2%. Its just facts look it up. What a load of crap this dude spouces

Being a person of great influence like Scott Galloway means following stoic practices (or any other virtuous practices) is even more important than someone with less influence on others imo. Excuse me for the cringe but it's true, with great power comes great responsibility. Stoicism helps you act more responsibly.
