The idea of a Bowser/Peach tango song, where he's attempting to woo her and she's rebuffing every advancement he makes suddenly got me very excited for this movie

Coming back to this video after seeing the movie earlier today. While not a musical (though we did get a number with Bowser), you were correct about it being an origin story and managed to get a few general brush strokes right with a few things out of order. Interesting.

I personally think that for Peach’s character for the movie should relatively similar to what we see her in the Super Mario Adventure comics, still sweet and caring but willing to take matters into her own hands

hopefully, it's a Mario movie based on a play, like Super Mario 3( i think) and Paper Mario, and everyone is held hostage by CEO Bowser, and Japan Nintendo is trying to save everyone
I think the most discomforting thing about the build-up to this film’s release is how we don’t even know what Mario looks like in this movie. It worries me that they’re hiding something

Following the second trailer release it seems like not all of this will be true, but I still give huge props to MatPat for finding out so much and creating a coherent potential plot line that actually makes a lot of sense out of a cast list :)

@@peachyweachy4except for most of the Donkey Kong and Kranky Kong parts. Also no time skip. In the movie the Kongs were already on the other side of the worp pipe and didn't meet Mario till after at lest the first third of the movie with no past connection to each other. And the Kongs helping wasn't due to a change of heart, it because Mario beat DK in a coliseum fight under the agreement that the Kong Kingdom helps if Mario beats DK in a fight.

Not gonna lie, if the movie turns out to be similar to Mat's plot, then that would THEORETICALLY mean that Miyamoto-san is planning to recreate every mainline Mario adventure story that fans have experienced for over 35 years.(A super Mario Galaxy movie would be a miracle for me, especially if it has that unique tone the game had.)

Team Theorist with another near-W with all their predictions, even the musical part. Crazy part about this is that they based all of this on the casting alone, way before there was even a trailer
YOU WERE RIGHT ABOUT THE BOWSER AND PEACHES SONG
About the part after time skip: What if Mario was down, because foreman Spike has fired him and Luigi from construction site, and now they look for work, and became plumbers? That would be a logical way to explain how they became the plumbers, and how they ended up in Mushroom Kingdom.
The main reason for the time skip would be for DK, since Cranky Kong would be in his prime during any kidnapping he partakes in, which would leave DK quite younger.
That makes sense. A career change is huge, and might be a good way to move the story along.
Maybe Mario got fired because his was facing Donkey “Cranky” Kong. Thats my logic. Spike didn’t like Mario fighting an escape ape no matter the context.
Maybe the movie is about how luigi is actually the stronger better brother while mario just gets all the credit but one day he gets a job to clear out ghosts from a mansion and ends up scarred for life leaving mario to have to pick up the mantle but end up being terrible at it, leaving him to go to donkey kong to train and become rad
If the movie isn’t close to this, I will probably be disappointed. This sounds so good.

this time matpat has literally predicted the whole movie by what we have seen
I would love them to have a song with a montage of Bowser trying to woo Peach and each time she shoots him down but we slowly see her warming up to him because he is simply a misunderstood character trying to make a difference and when Mario finally ‘rescues’ her (some flashback shows she was a potential love interest) she doesn’t want to leave Bowser
PLOT TWIST: Mario is trying to be a hero where he doesn’t need to be, Peach was never kidnapped, Luigi is only trying to help him move on and Donkey Kong is a successful business man chasing Mario to stop him from destroying his property
If you’ve seen Strange Magic (an underrated masterpiece of a film that well depicts _don’t judge a book by its cover_ much better than beauty and the beast) you’ll know what I’m getting at with the ‘evil’ moth king and the heroine, the absolute girl boss that is Marianne actually being a well suited match, it’s a storyline I see fitting perfectly with Mario, obviously it wouldn’t be a copy and paste but there potential for a boss scene of Anya Taylor-joy

Given the possible New York setting and the Mario series recently identifying their music with Jazz (Jump Up Super Star for example) I wouldn’t be surprised if the music have less of a pop feel like previous illumination movies and more of a timeless but bombastic Broadway musical feel, almost feeling like something straight out of a 90s animated Disney movie haha!
Honestly, that would be a great change of pace because it's rare to have musical numbers with jazz vibes in them.

One theory i've had since i heard about the casting was that they start off with Charles Martinet doing the Mario voice but quickly dropping it for Chris Pratt as he clears his voice and giving us a cheeky one liner like "You didn't think i *really* sounded like that all the time did you?" or something along those lines.
Also, have you tried listening to Mario talk in full sentences? Like more than just a few words at a time like he does in the games? It actually gets really grating pretty quickly.
Charles voiced Wario in WarioWare Gold and he is perfect in that game so he could voice Wario in the Mario movie. He also voiced the narrator in the Runner games.
It is also possible that they will have a charles martinet mario in the mushroom kingdom like an alternate universe kind of thing and they are saving it for a surprise reveal

Charles is definitely getting a cameo in the film though, there is no way he isn't
I would find it incredibly sad (and even a bit disrespectful after all those years) if nintendo doesn't give Charles at least a minor character with a couple of lines.
So I watched this after seeing the mario movie and honestly, despite having almost nothing to go off of matpat made some really good predictions on aspects of the movie. Honestly impressed.

I'm actually surprised this wasn't a sponsored video considering he has a companion video on Game Theory. He built game theory on Mario and on fnaf so i assumd he would do this and he waited till the Chris Pratt meme was long dead and buried before he did this one.
I wonder if Peach will often escape or save herself most of the time which is why Toad keeps telling Mario she's in another castle. I can imagine it being a joke where Toad actually tries to tell Mario she is probably fine but Mario runs off too fast to listen cuz he wants to be a hero. Meanwhile, Peach is slowly escaping and battling Bowser on her own until Mario catches up in the "last castle". Would put an interesting spin on 'why' Peach is always in another castle XD

That wouldn’t be funny, and would only suggest Peach isn’t smart enough to actually escape as she keeps getting kidnapped. More likely Bowser will kidnap a Toad and trick Mario into saving it so we can get the iconic line

So after seeing this film (3 times lmao) I had to come back to watch this! I love how matpat was *close* on some story details but was pretty far off of the overall films plot and scenes. I’m very happy with what Illumination and Nintendo have created in the Super Mario Bros. Movie and I’m happy it went that way, and not the way matpat thought 😂

There’s just been a new trailer in the style of a Mario plumbing commercial, complete with the old cartoon theme, and it has a link to a website for their business, and on it is a one star review from who else but Spike himself, talking about how they ditched his business!
As much as sweet and nice Peach is, I never for a second thought she will be like that in the movie. I always imagined Peach not being scared to get her hands dirty when needed... I believe the way she acts is more of a façade than her actual personality. She has a kingdom to rule and must act accordingly...
I mean I doubt anyone knows this here, but Peach does have her own game where roles are reversed, Mario is kidnapped and Peach now has to save him, Luigi is....well Ig he's at the Mansion with E. Gadd.
Additionally to what Major Orion said, she's also pretty competent in Super Mario RPG, a game in which she is held against her will by two different characters during the course of the game, and despite that, what does she do upon being rescued? She immediately flees the castle to join Mario's quest to take down Smithy, so Bowser can have his castle back. ...And save the world I guess, but if you ask Bowser, it's about reclaiming his throne.

I still hold in my head the concept that Jamie Lee Curtis is an older more sarcastic Peach. This comes from a Guest Grumps episode of Jamie playing Mario Party.
I still remember that time Peach had enough of Bowser's crap and just telekinetically yeeted him out a window (or something). It's a scene no one really talks about, but I think it's really memorable.

A lot of this theory is wrong.
The whole Mario not being a plumber and Cranky Kong kidnapping Pauline is completely wrong, also Donkey Kong luring the Mario brothers to a trap in the sewers is hilariously wrong. Princess Peach doesn't get kidnapped, Luigi does. Also the post credits scene is just a Yoshi egg hatching.
Well yeah it was made 5 months before the movie with no trailers out, the only thing we knew about it at the time was the cast and who was gonna make it, of corse it was going to be wrong
The girlboss that peach was in the movie is not the type that is butchered up with wokeness. Looking back at this theory, I get uncomfortable thinking about the woke type of girlboss whenever I watch that part of the video. I do want peach to fend for herself like wyldstyle and fiona, who all have kind hearts like peach, but when I am playing super mario bros, I don't imagine peach being a jerk to mario simply because he is a guy.

Here's another piece of evidence that supports this musical theory: Anya Taylor-Joy said in an interview that she had some sort of acapella song in the movie. She even said it was kind of Dark? I don't know how this movie is going to turn out, and I won't be surprised if it's bad, but the more I hear about it, the more I believe that this has the potential to be good. Either this movie's gonna be awesome, or it's gonna be an Absolute Train wreck! There is no way that this just going to be average like a lot of their other movies.

The one hole I can see in this theory is where Charles Marinet fits into the plot. He’s clearly important enough to be mentioned in the first cast reveal as a secret character. My guess is that Mario Mario Mario is the descendant of Mario Mario Mario in some way.
According to leaks, which also stated that the film will be a musical, Charles Martinet would probably only be the film's narrator.
