I started wearing a Gath helmet with the full pull down face visor for Sun Protection when they 1st came out. That was 15 + years ago because some of my friends were getting skin cancer. It keeps me cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and I have a windshield to protect my eyes. My Pterygium went away because I protected the eyes from the sun. In my opinion Helmets are cool.I have only heard my head get bumped by the board a few times and not yet by the Foil. Think of it as insurance to keep you in the water.
I have been using this helmet for foiling. I love it because it is so light weight and offers great protection from impact and foils. There are slots in the helmet that the tip of a foil could theoretically get through if all the elements lined up, but I would say it is highly doubtful that would happen.
I have head circumference 58cm - size M is very tight, size L comfortable, but rather large. what is your recommendation? I am at the end of size M and in the middle of size L. How tight should the helmet fit? I have the feeling that the L looks the same for me as it does for you in the video. But the M presses minimally on the top left and right of the orange pad. what do you think? Do you have the same feeling? Is it perhaps still coming apart minimally? What is your head circumference?
Every head shape is different so even if we have the same skull circumference the helmet would fit different. Fit is depending on the sport you are doing. If you are mostly surfing, I would go with the medium as it will have the tightest fit and best protection. If you are foiling and wind sports that have less white water wipe out action then get what is most comfortable which sounds like it might be the large.
Thanks. I will only use it for surfing. The M is a bit tight in the area of the orange pads, so I can't reach the top of the helmet 100%. Do you think it makes sense to make the helmet in L a bit tighter at the sides with waterproof foam pads? Or do you think the helmet in M will fit better in the water over time? It really sucks that I'm right in between the two sizes.
@@deeearnshaw9551 If you ask me, I think the helmet is really cool. As light as it is, I don't think you really notice it. The only problem is that it's a bit too big for me in L and a bit too small in M. We'll see how the L behaves with duckdives and falls. And it looks "cool(er)" than all the others...
Hey just to piggy back on what Matt said below: "I have been using this helmet for foiling. I love it because it is so light weight and offers great protection from impact and foils. In that freak instance, there's a chance a foil tip could still slip, but this will take out the majority of traumatic head injuries which is the main focus. Limiting the frequency and severity is the key here.

It's an Oakley. They definitely need a visor.
Would you use this helmet for foiling, or do you think the vent holes are too much of a compromise for that usage?

I wouldn’t use one of these for foiling

Yeah if the Md doesn’t fit then get the lg and crank it down. It’s still secure
Do you prefer this or the Manera?

TBI’s are no joke. As the Beastie Boys put it
“Check yourself before you wreck yourself”
do u wear it under the hood or over the hood.
Over the hood.
In the hood...
looks like there are gaps where a foil could sneak through
