      It's not a debate. There's nobody there intellectually equipped enough or even ideologically opposed enough to challenge the guests views.
      Your definition of debate needs to be relooked at.

    AT 83, Allison is still so sharp. He is able to keep 2 or 3 questions is his brain while answering them. Unreal. And he shows how little the moderators know about geopolitics. The moderators are into the flavor of the week geopolitics.

    What he misses is that the global economy is far more interconnected today than during previous world wars. The US and China are far more dependent on one another. I also agree w Chamath that the pending age of abundance eliminates the need for resource wars and hopefully we can eventually rid ourselves of the military industrial complex this century

    • @harshitsingh1600
      @harshitsingh1600 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm !! But again you are assuming too much . War can be fought on some rational calculations but sometimes mistakes can too lead to slippery slope. So Chamath point on we not going to war because of resource abundance is true but too myopic. War can be fought on irrational basis or saving face or not to be seen as weak etc etc . We can only be sure of no war happening in future if we can change the collective consciousness of humans as a race !! But again nobody knows how it can be done .

    • @howtoactuallyinvest

    • @olderchin1558

      I think you have not been paying attention to current events. The US is driving the decoupling of western economies from China. Both economic and technological dependencies are breaking. China is responding by decoupling as well. This is a fact, it does not matter who started it first or who is to blame.
      The reality is the lush green forest of growth that both sides enjoyed has slowly dried up leaving behind an environment that will easily catch fire from any sparks like Taiwan, Philippines or Korea issues.
      And the goodwill the US enjoyed with the world is no more, it is now seen as a bully than a benefactor by more than 100 countries who prefers to passively support Russia and China. The world is bifurcating into 2 spheres of influence, the US lead domineering western order and the liberal non-aligned countries gravitating around China through the BRI and BRICS. The dedollarisation movement is the result.

    His answer to Chamath's question about China's admission to the WTO strikes me as disingenuous. There were many, many people at the time who were vocal about not allowing China to be a part of the WTO because of a plethora of reasons, one of which was their potential as an economic competitor. To say this thinking was "unimaginable" either demonstrates that the establishment was blind, or he's taking that position to cover their rear ends.

    It's appalling that he can simply call the Iraq war or occupying Afghanistan as a" MISTAKE ".
    People who pay lip service to “we can and should criticize America too” and then proceed to treat every wrong America does as “we made a mistake” and every wrong China does as “they’re coming for all of us” are engaging in sinophobia while maintaining fig leaf veneer of decency.
    While the US is literally encircling China with military bases and aircraft carriers, and then insist *their* suspicions are reasonable but Chinese suspicions are just paranoid fantasies, all those people are in fanning or engaging in or embodying Sinophobia. Because ultimately what Sinophobia, phobia of any “other”really is, is a belief that “your” faults are redeemable, but “their” faults reflect some kind of fundamental perversion or malignancy, so you can treat yours in good faith, but the “other” deserves immovable bad faith.

    One of the biggest problems with geopolitics is the use of MSM which more often than not ends up stoking war and supporting the military industrial complex. Even if you look back at WW1 and 2, MSM was used largely to stoke war rather than prevent war as the likely outcome. The world working together for mutual benefit with the aim of making the world a better place for all needs to be the goal, not war. This ethos needs to be echoed in MSM.
